By the way, I learned today that the whole Peppa Pig-Gucci thing is partially due to an Italian footballer sporting a Peppa Pig tattoo, and the character skyrocketed in popularity since then in China. Fun fact.

The thing I liked about the off-brand items is the creativity of the names 😂

Funnily enough, a couple of those are legit. Eau de Toilette is a real product that has been around for centuries and the "Toilet" comes from the older usage of it being used in the bathroom to scent your body after washing. It was only later on that "toilet" came to mean what it does today. Dragon with the Girl Tattoo is an actual book written as a parody of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo which sort of fits in with the whole "Off Brand" theme but it is entirely intentional in its name.

I live in India and the markets here are a treasure trove of off-brand stuff, some of them so legendary they feel almost established in their own right. Eg there is Adibas and Adobas, then there is lots of Poma, and once I saw a shirt - and I'm regretting to this day I didn't pick it up because I never saw it again afterwards - with "Dry Super" big across the chest

So, there's a French verb "faire de toilette" that means to take care of one's appearance, hence a more direct translation of 'toilette' would be 'hygenie.' :)

Okay @3:55 that triggered an extinct memory from 6th grade when I was 12 years old. We had some kids doing comedy in class, in front of the room. They mixed a 1980s Crest commercial with other ideas of a fire department coming to rescue you “CRUUUssst…CRUUUUussst” like a sound it would make. Then Crust paramedics would come to save the day. You were supposed to brush your teeth with it to build a thick crust of scum. Talking about it sounds stupid, but as kids, watching this boy in a Crust made up cardboard box he wore making that nose, we were cracking up so hard! "eau de toilette" actually refers to perfume, for "toilette" originally refers to how you dress, then "toilettes" being used as an euphemism like "restroom" (for everyone know you don't rest there) because after doing your needs, you also remake your "toilette": putting back clothes to be elegant, and wear perfume so you don't smell like poo-poo. so not to be confused with "eau deS toiletteS" which is basically the WC water for flush all your flush needs.
