Went back and looked into it some more. And yeah you guys are real smart! The "invisible wall" is infact the effect of paralax scrolling. meaning the black room is infact 2 or 3 screens wide

What's really odd is that this blank screen is in fact part of the normal stage path. The pit in the room before it is actually a branched path that leads to the rest of the level. The same thing happens in Skull Man's stage where the side room with the E-tank is part of the normal path, but the room above the ladder is actually the branching path. The same thing happens yet again in Pharaoh Man's Stage. The route to the balloon is the regular path, while the intended way is the branch. In Mega Man 4, each stage can have up to 4 branching paths, but this also includes branch entrances and exits, so one path would require 2 entries. Mega Man 5 can use a lot more.

01:30 are you sure this is an invisible wall? To me this looks like you just appear being stuck because the camera is moving with Mega Man. The camera stops moving (and Mega Man is able to get to the right side) once you reach the right end of this room. This also explains the weird behavior, since the lines you've drawn pretty much seem to match the points at which the camera starts/stops following you. Might be wrong, haven't played Mega Man for ages though.

For that black area with the false walls, could it be that you're not hitting a wall, you're hitting the center point of a long room where the camera is panning?

no probably not because I can still move megaman around while the barrier is up. if it was a screen pan, I'd lose control of megaman for a moment

I don't think he's referring to a full screen pan but rather a long 2 screen wide section, like the intro to mm2s wily stage 1 and such. The Invisible disappearing wall is probably just the camera staying centered as you scroll across a 2 screen wide black screen, and it "drops" when you hit the end of the screen, letting you float over to the wall, and going back left recreates the barrier

I agree, this just gives the illusion you are stopped by something, but rather you are moving while the camera is centered, as there are no other objects around, it gives the illusion that you just stopped, also it's pretty weird for a pass-through wall cheat to suddenly not work.

Yeah, it's more than likely a long room, not a room with a barrier in the middle. This is supported by the fact that it goes both ways.

You might be able to prove it if you stop halfway through the "barrier", turn around, and see if MegaMan moves immediately or gets "stuck" for just as long.

DUDE you completely missed the megaman 1 level artifacts that were left in megaman 2 that can be accessed by glitching through the boss levels. You can cheat your way into Wily 2 by glitching through Air Man's level.

1:38 its not a barrier, its the camera locking because the room has scroll. Once you get to the other side of the room the camera cant go further so you go beyound the center area of the camera

1:28 - Sorry for spoiling the mystery, but I have a surprisingly obvious explanation for this, which I'm really surprised you guys didn't realize. It's not an invisible wall. It's simply the room scrolling with you and camera just stays on Megaman until you reach the other side of the room. That's pretty much all. You simply can't see the room scrolling because the background is pitch black with no objects for reference ;p

I feel terrible for saying this, but is it possible to seperate the fan game stuff from the main series stuff? I cant speak for everyone but it doesnt appeal to me Obviously if its want you want to do nobody can stop you and ive certainly no objections to you doing it, id just prefer it if you went half and half so those of us only intrested in the non fan game stuff can stop there I feel i need to speak out because i get the sense that nobody else wants to for fear of causing offence

I kind of agree with this comment. As a hobbyist game dev I actually enjoy watching these videos to see how the pros did stuff. Sometime I see something in these videos a pro did that I also did and it felt hacky to me, but I guess it wasn’t lol. Showing fan remakes or fan projects don’t show you how the real game was actually made and the strange things they did to make things work, especially since the fan game are made to run on modern hardware and can probably use better solutions to problems the devs of the original couldn’t use.

But would that not make it a good learning experience, to see how fans overcame technical issues that the original developers encountered? Especially if those same fans force themselves into similar hardware restrictions? (See Battle Kid as a prime example!). With programming there is no "one way" to solve a problem, and the way you solve it may be entirely different from how I solve it. Do not get me wrong, I am not saying you have to be interested in fan games and sure it would be neat if they were seperated; Just I think your reasoning -feels- a little flawed?

With all due respect, I wish you hadn't covered the Megaman 2.5D and instead dedicated more time to the official games. Being a fan game, even a very cool and interesting one, looking behind the scenes of it doesn't hold the same value as it does with the famous and OG games themselves, at least to not to me.

DDRKhat That’s a good point. I would just like to see them separated into their own respective videos. I already wish these Boundary Breaks were longer, but I wasn’t going to say anything about that. I know he likes to make his videos a certain length and I won’t try to make him change that. I just would have preferred that the length wasn’t cut into by an unofficial game of the series this episode was about.

The "Barrier" that appears to be in the black room seems to be the thing that keeps the camera centered on Megaman. You assume that the black room is a single box, but it's most likely several screens worth of auto-scroller space.

1:35 that's the screen scrolling, it's not an invisible barrier. Remember the background is black, so there's no detail to show you the screen is scrolling, but it is.

1:42 don't quote me on this, but i may have the answer to this. it may look like megaman was blocked by invisible barriers which have an inconsistent location. but, i think that's not the case. what are you seeing here is when megaman move to the right, the camera also move to the right which makes megaman in the middle of the screen creating an illusion of a barrier in front of him. but you can't really tell the camera is moving since the background is pure black. same for the left side. but when you go all the way to the right, you can see the camera stops which means you are reaching the right side of a some sort of room. same for the left side. in conclusion, there are no barriers here involved here.

Isn't that "barrier" in the black area just the screen scrolling to keep up with Mega Man? It doesn't look like much without a visible background, but it makes the most sense for something that would seem to prevent movement for a while, then stop as Mega Man approaches the edge of the area.

I mean just regular scrolling, not a full transition to a new area which happens when you reach the edge of the screen.

There's quite a lot of removed / un-used assets that just are not in a usable fashion in the rom. Such as Megaman 3 has a scrapped Sphinx Mini-boss.

1:40 oh please... that's not a barrier, that's just the camera moving sideways with you, which makes it looks like you're not moving. But once you reach the edge of the room the camera stops and looks like you're moving again. You don't notice it because there's no background to serve as a point of reference Just look at 7:35 and try to imagine there's no background. Megaman is precisely "still" horizontally (in reference to the screen borders) but when he reaches 7:50 the camera stops and he continues going right, which is what's happening in that black room

Hmm. For those 'invisible barriers' in the black room, have you considered that's where the screen is scrolling to the left and to the right, perhaps? Are those the usual places where Mega Man 'stops' and the screen scrolls left and right in the blackness?

In the blank room where you get blocked by something for a few seconds then can move again, wouldn't that just be the room scrolling left and right and trying to keep mega man centred?
