Off-Grid Knives - Caiman XXL Fixed Blade Bowie with Cryo D2 Steel, G10 Scales, Kydex Sheath, Camping, Bushcraft, Hunting, Survival (Stonewash)
Check it out here: a.co/d/cpQXCG8
FIELD TESTED CRYO D2: Off-Grid's D2 is cryogenically treated, adding extra corrosion resistance, toughness, edge retention and wear resistance. We also use it in our Tracker-X2, Alpha-Dog, and Ridgeback fixed blades, which have proven to be a tough workhorse steel, ideal for outdoor work. With an HRC of 61, your XXL blade will perform at a high level for a long period of time without the need to sharpen.
BIG BOWIE BLADE: We took the blade shape of the popular folding knife Caiman XL, and created our biggest fixed blade to date. The spine has a chamfered edge and plenty of jimping for confident, non-slip cutting. This 7-inch blade comes to a very thin edge and a vicious point that will cut and pierce with ease right out of the box.
ERGONOMIC G10 SCALES: The Caiman XXL handle is designed for comfort, control, and safety. We rounded the edges, added jimping at the back, a pinch grip for detailed cutting, and a large curved finger guard. The shape of the handle was the work of many hours of testing using a 3D printer and actual outdoor use. The handle melts in your hand for all-day use. The advantage of G10 is its durability and resistance to impact, abrasion, and moisture, making it a perfect choice for outdoor knives. Additionally, G10 is water-resistant, it won't warp or rot over time.
KYDEX SHEATH & BELT SYSTEM: The custom weatherproof Kydex holds the Caiman XXL with excellent security. It will snap in with authority, with no movement and no rattle, and your blade is safe and secure when you're on the move. We used our OG Lo-Pro belt clip, which offers a low hip carry with a thumb ramp for easy one-hand deployment. The Velcro-nylon button lock design easily attaches to your belt without the need to un-loop your belt, easy on, easy off.
VERSATILE CUTTING MACHINE: Camping, fishing, hunting, fieldwork, feather sticks, chopping, and even camp kitchen food prep...the Caiman XXL is ready for Off-Grid adventures.
SPECS & WEIGHT: OEM-Taiwan, Weight-15.5oz (knife only), Blade Length-7", Full Length-12.1", Blade Thickness-4mm, HRC-61, Handle length-5"

Was definitely concerned about the tip considering the steel, blade thickness, aggressive tip profile, etc. And this is exactly why I waited before ordering the more expensive versions. You're the first one I've seen actually TEST the blade and I am thankful for that. -- I'm not sure it's worth buying, even this stonewash variation at the discounted $69 price. That all being said, Off-Grid needs to go back to the drawing board with this one. I think they've got something nice here, it just needs some improvements. First thing I would do is ditch the D2 steel. At least go with DC53, AUS-10, A2, maybe even Sleipner, or something tougher that is also budget friendly. Then beef up the blade by at least 2mm, refine the handle and reprofile the tip shorter (and stouter). Personally, I've consistently thought of this blade as combat/hunting use only, given its blade geometry. Still, I can't express how disappointing it is to see a failure like this.

Makes me wonder if the tip test shouldn’t be earlier in the testing sequence, that way you would save yourself the work and risk of injury for a blade that may let you down in the end. Food for thought? I mean the knife literally tripped over its own shoe laces right in front of the finish line.😂

Should not have failed. I have done worse to more inexpensive knives made in China so. No excuse in my opinion.

That knife is a meat eater. The Off Grid Knives, Backcountry Blackout V2 is made for wood processing and as a hunting knife. It has a stout blade with a strong tip.

It looks like things were going very well until about halfway through, when the damage must have accumulated from the beatings. The design is beautiful but should not be used for survival or bushcraft.

Hey man, I was cringing thru almost the whole video at the punishment you were giving that flimsy tip! When I first got that knife, I didn't expect the tip to be so narrow. Frankly, I am really surprised at just how much of a beating it took!!! It's a slicer, I'll give it that and if pressed into survival, it's a knife that will need some extra care when using that tip. The folder's blade, is the same design too! Honestly, if you'd of done this video "before" I bought the knife, I would not have bought it BUT, now I know what it can handle bro, so thank you...

" If your knife tip does break, we assume this was caused by prying, and this is not covered under the warranty " How can they assume it was caused by prying ? You weren't prying anything when it disappeared, that tip has an expiration date like milk.

Once before I commented D2 at a 60+ hrc is not good for a large fixed blade. This is why. I edc fixed blades for work over 17yrs now. 1095, 52100,5160 really for extremely hard use or survival like tasks just can't be beat. Cold Steels SK5 is pretty good too but you can break a tip but not that easily.

I have had plenty of d2 steel knives i have tested even harder than this knife and they come through. Proof is in my videos. This knife needs to be reworked. No way a survival or outdoor knife. Only good to cut fruit and vegetables. Meat without bones maybe…
@mitchnerem6759
@mitchnerem6759 2 месяца назад
That does really suck. It puts doubt in my mind about mine. I didn't buy it to beat on and use as a camp knife but I'd really hate for it to fail when it really, really counts. I love mine, it is amazingly sharp. It's got a very fine point that I wouldn't try a bend test with but stabbing into a piece of wood?? IDK? I feel like it should've done better than that. The warrant online when you read through talks about abuse testing and how they won't cover it. Off Grid might be the wrong name for the company if they can't survive the basic abuse.... Some of their other knives, prior to the cryo D2 were breaking.

@@LegionTacticoolCutlery that really worries me. I bought mine on a flash sale from Amazon. I think I paid $59 for it. I've been wanting to start making my own knives for awhile and had designed one very similar to this and decided that I couldn't make my own for as cheap as I could buy it and I had some Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket so I bought one.

It's definitely a lil thin, but was designed to be so... its intent is basically a food prep knife designed to be used for wood wackin or defense if need be. Cool knife.... been eyeballing it for couple months now... may have to bite the bullet & get one now.... soon as I can afford to, that is... this economy SUCKS... please get Sleepy Joe out of our office, lol,so we can buy more knives & bolt carriers...
