You improved upon the original idea I saw last year using lard in a can with a lit candle in the center w a small to medium sized terracotta pot over the top to produce ambient heat. Using a larger terracotta pot w hole in bottom to circulate heat internally over a smaller pot, with a stream of hot air out the drain hole of the larger overlying pot...Brilliant! Thank you for sharing this! Kriss

Thank you for this, just what I was looking for. I have a small garden and a courtyard garden at the rear of the house with a 10’ x 8’ greenhouse. I’m late planting my seeds this year (having chemo atm) but it’s still too cold at night so they’re taking their time to come through even though I’ve put a bit of bubble wrap up. New subscriber

Rather than 5 or 10 hour tea-lights, melt a packet of Trex vegetable oil and pour it into a large pickle jar with a bit of string as a wick.. It should burn for 4 days and cost about a pound. You can bolt the pots together for convenience and with the added heat from the hot steel.. I use 2 in my draughty 15 foot greenhouse/shed, and they keep the frost off.

If any use to anyone:- I work in my spare bedroom 9-5 Mon-Sat the room is 6ft x 8ft. I made a long life candle from 3 blocks of Tesco Baking Block (similar to Trex). I melted the blocks in the microwave and added 2 wicks (200 pk from Amazon around £2.99). Over the lit candle I put a 16cm terracotta plant pot supported by two bricks (to allow airflow to the candle). I put the homemade mini heater under my desk. Using a 60cm x 60cm piece of random cardboard (from an Amazon parcel) I neatly wrapped tin foil around it and stuck it to the underneath of my desk to deflect/increase the circulation of the heat. I light the candle at 8am to allow it to heat up and it increases the room temperature by 3c-4c. The candle last 6 days. I have two back up candles. See Crisco candle videos on RU-vid for examples. Please note I have tested using two terracotta pots as advised in most videos and it does not work as good as one pot. I also tested a 25cm pot and a 22cm pot separately but the 16cm heated up the best. I haven't covered the hole in the pot as recommended in most videos and the pot still gets too hot to touch. The candle does not smell at all although you can add candle scent if you wish. I also tested with a carbon monoxide detecter and it registered zero over a continuous 50 hour test. This will only work in a small area like a small spare bedroom or small greenhouse. Canadians use this method in their greenhouses during their winters. Plant pot was around £2 from B&Q. Tesco banking block £0.95 each. 200 10cm wicks around £2.99 from Amazon. When I melt the baking blocks I use a pencil to wrap the top of the wicks around and rest it on the random pot jar I got from Home Bargins sale for £1 each. This ensures the wicks are straight whilst the candle hardens in the fridge over night. It's not much heat but it saves me from putting on the central heating for just the one room. There are dozens of these mini heaters for sale on eBay for £25. Building your own is much cheaper. Best of luck.

There is a much easier way, Buy a terracotta saucer place the tea lights in the saucer and put the pot over the top, The tea lights will still stay lit by pulling the oxygen through the top as opposed to the bottom, to switch off the heat just place your coin over the top which will starve the oxygen and the flame will go out and its much more cosmetically pleasing to the eye and above all safer.
@Pippymint
@Pippymint 10 месяцев назад
But you then halve the heat you can store up as you don’t have the bricks and other pot. I’ll stick with this guys method
