Hiking has saved my life. Now that I have reached an age where hiking is hard, I have been walking roads. I walked from Cedar City, Utah to the Nevada border. I could only do a mile or two at a time. I also fight depression.

One quote I read that has stuck with me is “ this life ask of us so much patience, sometimes it seems too much patience.” As a fifty five year old man who lost my wife eleven years ago to a brain tumor, a daughter who was born with a syndrome which has caused her to attempt suicide I must admit I struggle to make sense of this life. Depression is a horrible sickness, one it seems that lends itself to traveling it alone, I tend to tell everyone things are great even when I crave feeling nothing.

I’ve worn a mask my whole life. Since the spouse passed, the kids left, the pets went to the pet park in three sky (and lockdown) the mask slips. A lot. Lots of crying in the shower. BUT I’m finally getting it out. Going out on the road had helped tremendously. Still lonely but this Country is beautiful. I’ve cried on mountains, the desert & the ocean! When I’m healthier I will adopt a Senior dog or two. I see the forest through the trees-it’s just a little misty. Depression took my Grandma, my Aunts & my Mother. I don’t want that to be my daughters, granddaughters legacy.

Lifelong suicide ideation but no attempts. At almost 68 and retired I can reflect on what is most spiritually important and that is FORGIVENESS of others and yourself. I worked away my depression by working hard but now retirement forces you to face your fears. The good news is that WE HAVE the power to banish the demons around us. I call on Jesus and he has lessened my burden, though I am a sinner. Our spiritual journey is eternal in this life and the next. Peace out, Nikki

Years ago when my life was really turned upside down I read some where that after FDR was paralyzed from polio everyday he read " Invictus" . I looked it up and started to do that as well. It is so incredibly inspiring that if you are struggling it helps to pull all your broken pieces together. It gave me the strength to keep moving forward. Even now , although my life is great....I like to read it ...just don't do it as often. ❤

I'm a small guy and all my life I have been keeping to myself in a small bedroom. I really haven't had much, just a TV, PC, Twin bed, small drawer dresser, and a couch. I'd only leave my room for work, the doctors, or to the kitchen for some food and drinks. So, apparently, I have been living close to minimalism and never even realized it, at least until I got older. Now, I still live the same but I have jugs of water and a small fridge in my room and get pre-cooked food like rotisserie chicken, frozen fruits and veggies, and canned foods like beans. So, If I was to downgrade to a laptop, toss the TV, Desktop PC, and couch, I think I'd be able to live in a small SUV-Van. Although, I do have a few concerns... 1) Cell signal & Wifi. 2) Efficient power bank and source. 3) Storage, wiggle room and airflow. 4) Insulation for sound and both cold & hot weather. 5) The ability to park anywhere and be incognito. 6) A bathroom at least for # 1 at night and of course emergencies. 7) Standing and ability to walk around, especially on a crappy weather day. 8) Where to send my mail and securely store my important and personal things. 9) Having a home that can separate from the vehicle, in case of a mechanic or impound. From the looks of it, I may need to go with either a truck bed camper or tow travel camper. My only gripe, that both options have in common is neither gives me access to my driver's seat in emergencies.

She is my inspiration personally with fighting depression myself from similar situations. I am joining her channel in a moment also and with the depression going on I thought a long the same path and purchased my first motorhome to be doing the same except though I am still young myself I do have my own source of income including 1800 watts of solar , regular generator as back up. Stove sleeping area for up to 6 people though I am the only one, shower and bathroom and bedroom. Pretty traditional overall but great way to escape from depression. I will be adding things of course. Prior to this I to had a travel trailer that was unfortunately destroyed by a relative whom never repaired it that I loved so much. Currently with my depression I live as a minimalist also so the new mobile home would actually be an big improvement with space. Which I really do not need except for I feel I at least need a shower to utilize. I thank her for being my inspiration for sure after coming back from dangerous situations overseas.

Time to think and reflect is soooo important. Sometimes I think it is why we get sick, so we will have time and be forced to sit and think. God doesn't care how hard life is, just that we learn. I cat sit for a lady that had a quote by Virginia Woolf hanging off the spare house key. "If you are losing your leisure time, you may be losing your soul." Virginia Woolf. Well, that was better than reading "To The Lighthouse."
