Splendid video. So many have been waiting and needing this! An offroad cargo ebike that can carry heavy weight for long distance is what all campers and outdoors enthusiasts have been waiting for. This opens up a whole new market for ebike manufacturers. The video we all really need and want to see next is its loaded capacity of 390 in its offroad environment. This is what we have been waiting for for so long. The performance of max load offroad is what this new market should be showing and improving on. 😊

I think the largest barrier for a fully loaded off road riding is that many trail systems exclude power assisted vehicles and other users are not always pro-pedal-assist. Ironically many folks drive car to places to ride bikes while pedal assist means no need for a car at all often but I hope these sentiments change with time! Obviously ATV type trails are OK but these can be challenging with a regular bike let alone a loaded one!

Good to see more Orox content. Currently saving for one as this has been what I’ve wanted for 10 years! I was just waiting for someone to make it. I rode my longtail off road way before it was “possible”. Sadly, I might be a bit short for the frame so it’ll be my husband’s bike.

Got my orox built up today and did 40 miles on it and like you tour was my go to assistance mode for most of the ride with only using emtb when going up 9% or steeper gradients and turbo was just for a giggle. Absolutely love it, lucky to work in a bike shop so borrowed our demo bike for a few days before commiting to ordering one for myself!

This is a great video! Looks so much more offroad competent than I expected without any rear suspension. The Bosch assist is really solid, it's definitely a crowd pleaser.

The long wheel base and low center of gravity *plus* the pedal assist...it climbs like its using a winch. Nothing like I've ever ridden before!

This thing is a bicycle version of a BMW GS Adventure… Great video, I want one of these now.

Yeah the Orox totally screams adventure. It's almost hard not to daydream a little when you start to appreciate how capable it is!

Great video! I think Tern has hit it out of the park on this one. And I say this as someone who is not fond of Bosch-based ebikes. I don't know about market demand and how it will perform but if I had that kind of dough lying around, this is the bike I'd get. Would make a nice companion to my existing stable of Cargo bikes.

I will say...the fact that you can have a bit of fun and be a little more adventurous on this bike makes it SUPER appealing IMO. Why wouldn't you want to rip around off road on your cargo bike? Not going to lie...I almost expected not to love the Orox because I'm not a huge fan on Fat bikes but a Fat Cargo Electric bike is somehow completely different and undeniably fun!

Cheers for this video nice to see some Orox content which is lacking imho. Also nice to see my old stomping ground around the DVP, memories of my childhood on a rigid frame. Question for you, 70% of my riding for kid hauling and grocery getting is paved, but the 30% is pretty gnarly and rocky. I'd consider the 29 inch rim for some efficiency etc but then I'd get less suspension benefits. How do you think the ride would be on 29er wheels? Also any comparison to the R&M Multicharger?
@urbane-cyclist
@urbane-cyclist 2 месяца назад
So I think of the Multicharger as more road/path oriented, simply because it uses more standard sized tires- still off road capable but I wouldn't jump to bring on trails as technical or rough as depicted in this video but totally a "dirt friendly" cargo bike. I know I went to the extreme in this video for testing but the large volume tires do A LOT for not only suspension but also traction. While riding I was also thinking 29er would be nice but after stepping back and doing some rough calculations...you would still need to run ~29X3" tires to maintain a similar effective diameter over the 27.5x4" that it comes stock with. I'm still curious but I don't think it would make it feel *that* much more nimble seeing as it is still a heavy duty electric cargo bike! Thanks for watching!

@@urbane-cyclist OK, so I'm stuck between a rock and a hardplace. The Orox seems like too much bike 70% of the time (kid hauling, farmer market / grocery run, commuting etc.) but just fine 30% of the time light trail use, perhaps even with the kid in tow. The Multicharger perhaps would be just fine 70% of the time for those use cases, but might limit which trails I can ride on which sucks. If only Tern spec'ed a suspension fork then it would be a no brainer with 29" wheels.

Suspension is nice but I don't find it feels lacking with the large volume tires. Its much more easy to "tune a tire" (adjust pressure) for terrain and cargo than adjusting suspension on the go. If I were to say one thing about the Orox is the Q-factor is wide just like a fat bike (your feet sit wider apart) which is really personal preference - I would suggest a test drive back to back to see what works best! (we have demos available to try in both models) for myself personally I find the wide Q-factor is super stable for off road riding but I don't favour it for higher mileage rides on pavement.

Such a great looking bike! Wish it didn't come along with that high of a price tag, esp when you can build something better than it for more than 4,5 maybe even 6 times less.😮‍💨😮‍💨
@urbane-cyclist
@urbane-cyclist Месяц назад
You might be able to build a fat tire e-bike for "cheap" but Tern tests their frames to much higher standards than even many of their competitors - *This is an off road rated cargo e-bike* that has been thoroughly tested by a leading global brand. To top that off a Bosch electrical system means that it is certified safe and tested to various different national standards. So at face value...sure large tires and electric parts might be common ground, but at that point you are just comparing apples to oranges.
