We live eat and chit Off the Grid and even with our short holidays we do the same .... So, we bought a pop top caravan and created a little off grid, mobile bug out mobile. It's now fitted out with its own little solar system which means we still have all the comforts of home including air con. We can't really call it camping, definetly more a glamping adventure.
We have done a couple of trips and plan to do a lot more. This trip we wanted to have a look at the Goulburn River. We travelled around the area between Bonnie Doon and Murchison. We found a couple of great little spots to camp over night. But we also found that there wasn't a lot of river frontage free camping places. It was an awesome few days away and we enjoyed every minute of it. Next trip won't be too far away.
Cheers Steve and Kerri (and Jess) and no bloody cat ! lol
BASIC SPECS ON THE SOLAR SET UP IN OUR CAMPER -
For anyone interested , our Off the Grid camper runs 2 - 300 W panels ( 600W) / 2 12V - 135 AH Lithium batteries a Chinese 3 KW Inverter and a 30 buck solar controller .... This runs our 240V Bar fridge , all 12 volt lights , 12V TV , charges all our phones and the tablet , runs our 12 V water pump and we even have a microwave ( came with the camper BTW ) .... We do need a good days sun to keep all running without breaks at night , but we can go one full night after just 1 day of clouds , so we do have some built in storage... During the day we have no issues though ... And another BTW , we even have an air-conditioner ( that came with the camper :- ) and it will run for around 2 hours off the small Solar , so we do carry a small 3KW generator with us just in case ...
