In my opinion, chasing the ball on your own shot uspets your balance and increases the chance of missing. A shooter needs to focus on the completion of his shooting motion, thinking he is going to make it, not miss it, and oughta only chase his rebound after his motion is fully finished. You're a legend, Bill.

I remember watching this on Cablevision's IO (Interactive Optimum) TV back in 2006. Bill Walton and Brent Barry's tips helped me make my JV and Varsity Teams.

i agree to everything beside chasing down the ball after shooting. You only chase the ball in special conditions such as when the time is running down and your team desperately need an offensive rebound if the shot doesn't go in.
@DekoresWade
@DekoresWade 7 лет назад
Problem with that is if you chase down the ball all game there will be less desperate needed rebounds.
@WeMoomingNow

Dekores Wade Many players get psychologically influenced by chasing the ball. 1. This action assumes that you think your shot has a pretty good chance of not going in, hurts your confidence. 2. You are not concentrated on shooting, while shooting you are readying to chase the rebound, may hurt your concentration, shooting form, and follow through. Also when i say desperately needed rebound I mean that there is only 2 or 3 seconds left on the game clock and your team is down by 3 points, if that happens you have to chase it down to make sure another attempt can be made if your shot doesn't go in.

@@WeMoomingNow also, chasing down your shot might allow the other team’s guards to get easy layups in transition

I agree Bill. Especially since Shaq and especially Yao were very skilled. I mean, ask Chuck Nevitt or Mohamed Saer Sene.

chasing the ball down is good especially for big men not so much for guards because if ur guards are chasing the ball and don't get it u get killed in transition

Bill, I agree with everything, but if Shaq and Yao Ming walk through that door, I’m going to lose

If you have the chase-down mindset you are assuming you are not making the shot and that mentality will lower your shooting percentage a lot
@jonny15dk
@jonny15dk 4 года назад
Not really. I have the mindset of make the shot and if it looks like a miss after it left my hands than I chase it. I do it on 3 on 3. Scored 6 pts off 2s. Missed a shot got the rebound and made the 1 and then made 2 more 2s and missed and got rebound and made the 1. Total 12 pts in a game to 15. Chasing the ball is rarely done now. Larry Bird did it and was a very good shooter and so did Ray Allen. And their mindset was making the shot. Not missing.
@elai3147
@elai3147 4 года назад
the mindset should be you will MAKE the shot, but even in the unlikely event you miss you will still get it back, your opponent is helpless until your team scores, this mentality will increase your shooting percentage because the pressure of one and done is gone
