Hi, I work in a environment where I am projected as Manager to the client company but I have to report to a person who is having similar experience as mine, and I can tell you that guy is Jealous of me, He tries everything under the sun not give me credit or promotion. Client is happy with my work . But person I report to Bad mouths about me. How do you think I should handle such situation.
@internalintelligenceagency1866
Hi Linda. Your so beautiful from the inside and pretty on the outside. My first situation where I had to deal with a harder person was when I worked for BYCC as weed wacker and the sun shined on me very bright while I chopped grass. Suddenly, I begun to lose my energy so I dropped the weed wacker and walked to a strong tall tree drinking cold water. The supervisor in an angry voice said, "Who's that not working?" Most of the employees pointed at me. The supervisor stormed over towards me and loudly said, "You don't want to work, go home!" That's all I needed to hear plus I didn't like the way he spoke to me because It's not that I didn't want to work the strenuous labor position he didn't understand that I had a major problem which was the cause of my behavior. I threw the weed wacker in the air that flipped then as it fell on the grass making a thump, I hoped it didn't hit anybody on the head. I walked off the plantation field and went home. P.S. From that point on, I've been hired at many job positions and not keeping them. I don't believe I didn't keep my jobs because of Social Anxiety that was not the reason I left my first position. Everything happens for a reason. For an example, I worked at Stop & Shop as a stocker, Star Market as a bagger, Walmart as a People's Greeter, UPS as a Package Handler, A & T Taxi as a driver ect. and I've enrolled in so many online colleges currently taking Small Business Management at Ashworth College. When I traveled from one city and state to another, my cousin thinks I'm crazy who completely shuts me out of his life. Out of all of this bad employment history, dropping out of school and everybody like my aunt who attempted to get me into accounting worked out for me. In 2016 I designed my independent organization out of the Supplemental Security Income Program called Internal Intelligence Agency LLC as my new brand name where I'm in the process of developing my Professional Home Office.

M Ra : Unless the person is a boss/supervisor or they are abusive or harassing (contributing to a hostile work environment) it’s best to politely detach and ignore the ignorance. Practice mindful compassion. The ridiculous coworker indulging in loud long personal telephone conversations clearly craves attention. Politely ignore her. The self-important idiot who interrupts your unpaid lunch with simplistic, non-time sensitive requests needs gentle correction (as many times as it takes). The sorry excuse for a man who insists on giving you the once-over as you exit the restroom is a substandard human JOKE. Sometimes we’re the toxic coworker intentionally or not.

Office politics are the pits! be careful setting yourself apart and a becoming a ‘super star’ as it can make others jealous and cause more problems. I don't agree with this as well. You have to be noticed, yes. But propping yourself up as the incredibly reliable, competent one can work against you because if you are promoted, you are essentially going to make the clowns in upper management look bad. You are now a threat to them.

Thank you for addressing this topic, Linda! Now I have a better understanding of office politics. I love your strategies! It turns out I was implementing most of them (learning on the job what and whom to avoid over time), yet I appreciate the confirmation and explanation for each strategy! Overall, the differentiation and encouragement to engage in professional conflicts is very enlightening and makes sense. At the end of the day, most people do not like engaging with someone that agrees with everything and does not have their own opinion. The reasoning that you shared behind engaging in professional conflicts demonstrates to leadership that they have an employee that cares about their organization and its bottom line. That is the type of superstar quality that rockstar management is looking to promote.

So I'm just 19 working with people in the range if 32+ and I feel like I'm being discriminated to my age and lack of experience. This worker always speaks to me in a condescending way and always is keen to remind me that she is my superior. I suffer from anxiety so her patronizing mood intimidates me and causes me to stumble. I know I got the job under control since I've been praised for it but when it's her I'm working with I feel like a newbie again. She is the grumpy one but also has mood swings so she is never consistent. Pray for me!

And tell her that you admire the work that she has done for all of those years. Maybe she’s threatened and a compliment or two will make her leave you alone. :) just an advice that I would give my son your age. I mean if you’re still at that workplace. Always have this tricks up your sleeve. Like a magician!

Thank you so much for sharing this with us. This is what I need and now I know I’m on the right track. Have been through 4 years of being gossiped by coworkers even though I don’t gossip and judge others. Staying away from the crowd and self-pity team is my style. People said sale is all about gossip, if you don’t gossip, you are not a good sales. This is not what believe. By delivering the best value and services to customers and meet even beyond their expectations are my goals. I also don’t do sweet talk to boss which many girls do even have love affairs with married bosses... I don’t do that too. I’m relatively young and single but thank God only got the gossip saying that someone interested in me rather than I got too close with someone and did something inappropriate. Ladies hates me, even though I do help them when they needs help. I have one or two coworkers I truly trust. I have to say, I trust my customer more than coworkers... I’m so happy that I found your channel, and knowing that stay away from petty team is on the right track. Thank you so much.

Being the best also means being the target of office politics. How about that? How to handle your enemies and make them work for your own ambitions?

Everyone wants to take down the big dog haha. Be it fear, jealousy, envy, or an inferiority complex, everyone has a reason it seems. I've found the solution really depends on finding the reasons that people act the way they do towards you. Most people you can just laugh it off or makes jokes about it with said people. Other people (The hostel ones that are afraid of your strength or skill), you have to firmly and swiftly do one of two things. You can either assert your dominance (In a professional way), or make them think they have nothing to worry about. Most people can be easily manipulated once you know what their personality is like.

My soul won’t allow me to play the game. Every time I try I have some success but end up hating myself. It’s so slimy. If I have the integrity to work with and help people I don’t like why aren’t others held to the same standard? Why are they rewarded for their unprofessionalism?

What can one do though when it's the newly hired manager who's created a new culture filled with office politics and clear apparent favoritism among a few (4-5) newly hired staff from a previous company? Is there a professional way to address the favoritism (politics) concern?

Great video, AND it's a video everyone should watch no matter where you're employed. This is the kind of topic that I sometimes find keeping me up at night on occasion. I work w a lot of ornery people, and have successfully been w this company for 16 years. I'm backing willing to back this video up. There's only one thing I'd like to add. If you find that people want to talk to you while at work, you should let them talk, even if you don't have much to add to the conversation. You're saying we need to be polite, and yes, you should be polite. At the same time, there's a time to talk and a time to work. I've had times when I've had ten to twenty minute talks w people, about life. I find that if I don't talk w my co-workers, we start to ignore them and forget part of the reason they're there in the first place and it becomes a race to finish the task at hand.
