The man is a hero. I don't care what the right wing says. While they defend officers that shoot children playing at the park with a toy gun with nobody around him, you think they could at least understand when an officer is justified in his/her actions.

I've watched a number of videos about this officer & the actions that he took in the performance of his duty to protect & defend the members of congress on Jan. 6, 2021, and then listening to all of the pros & cons resulting from the shooting of Ashli Babbitt. First of all, he wasn't shooting to kill, he was shooting to WOUND her, to get her to halt, her own forward movement dictated the path of the bullet, so in my mind, her death was actually an accidental one. Officer Byrd had warned her several times to stop, yet she kept right on coming, so she was a party to her own eventual fate. And then we come to the racial aspects of the shooting, had Officer Byrd been a WHITE officer, and Ms. Babbitt been a BLACK woman, then Officer Byrd would have no doubt been applauded for his actions. And historically this has been the way that situations like this have been treated for over two centuries here in the U.S. It's always treated as 'justifiable' for a white person to kill a person of color, yet it's always 'horrifying' when the roles are reversed. This is yet another situation where a white person's life is infinitely more valuable than someone of a different race, and/or skin color. This isn't a BLACK LIVES MATTER, a BLUE LIVES MATTER, or, (pick your race, color, or gender),LIVES MATTER. Had Ms. Babbitt & all of the others who chose to believe the bullsh*t lies told by a sore loser of an election, a sore loser that had told everyone that this was how he was going to handle ANY loss, EVEN BEFORE THE 2016 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. He followed Adolf Hitler's playbook to the letter in all of his actions & lies, it has also proved beyond the shadow of ANY doubt, the the Republican Party can only win if they cheat to do it. And they don't care WHO suffers for their losses or their wins. It's not about Democracy, IT'S ONLY ABOUT THEM WINNING & HOLDING ON TO POWER & WEALTH ! And as a former member of the Republican Party, it truly pains me that a political party that I took pride in, in being a member of, has shown themselves to be no better than the Nazis that my father & uncles fought so hard against, (with some making the ultimate sacrifice), in keeping our country truly free. I watched a very long video by one of the rioters who videotaped the shooting & the aftermath. That shot stopped the entire group of rioters from entering the House chamber where Congressmen & women were still being evacuated. Had Byrd NOT shot Babbitt, the momentum of the rioters would have flooded in and harm likely would have followed to sitting Congressmembers. He is a hero.
