This is why I am always surprised that there isn't more music in places of healing: hospitals, long term care facilities and the like. This story is powerful. I came here because one program that is caring for my sister is implementing this program. They need iPods and such. How about simply piping in music over an intercom? Classical music. Jazz music. Popular music. Music is also a shared phenomena. I wonder at the different advantages of listening to your own PLAYLISt versus the shared listening. BRAVO to this and other programs that refuse to reduce people to their circumstances.

Poonam Srivastava The thing is it should be music they can recognize and like, like their favorite musician or music, that activates the part of the brain that accumulates memories you might not remember easily but by hearing a special sound or song. That's the key of this whole method.

Music and singing are stored in long-term memory and are never lost, because our soul, our being, is the sound!

Magnificent documentary. I cried from beginning to end thinking of my mom and how we sang and listened to music from my birth to her death. Tomorrow is my birthday and it will be one year since she died. We played music to her till her final day. I watched this movie and bought the video as a gift to myself in her memory.

I'm not that old, but I totally understand this. I have days where I can't find my reading glasses anywhere only to find them on the top of my head. I have days where I can't remember the name of that thing - you know, that thing that you put in a car and it turns it on. But I can remember the band name and all the lyrics to 99.9% of the music we listened to from the late sixties and early seventies without missing a beat. Mind you, we sure did have kick-ass music back in the day! Thank you so much for uploading this. It's the sound of hope. If (or when) this happens to me, I hope to be 'quickened' or 'awakened' by Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven, The Best of the Who, and all the other totally awesome music we had in the late 60s and 70s. Maybe it won't be so dismal after all.

so wonderful:) maybe we should ask our loved ones what kind of music they like, and make a list now along with ours and add to medical records for future use, watching Henry come alive to music was so beautiful :)

I went to a viewing of Alive Inside movie and follow up presentation today. It made me cry, but it also made me want to work with all my Alzheimer's clients to get their own personal playlist to enjoy.

lol Who could dislike this video? A man is reanimated, restored and connected to himself again.....after living in a state of dark mental confinement! Be happy, if not for him, then for yourself because this could be you some day. Mozart figured it out a long time ago...music not only heals the mind, but has the power to rekindle the spirit!

You may wonder why I keep popping up here every now and then Kavisha :) It is because although by a random impulse I bought your CD with you singing live... 'Canberra, Cork, Calgary... live'... on a night when I wanted to recognise or put sounds to how I was feeling, this CD was on a constant replay. The effect was healing and releasing. Since then, when time allows or I see you comment here, I am always pleased I explore your recommendations and hope you do continue. Thank you from a random traveller here for your contributions. They are much more than songs... but lessons of the past for present and future listeners sang with great feeling.

LOVED the full film Alive Inside--it can easily change your life & make U a life-changer-anywhere in the world, any age, hi-tech, lo-tech or no-tech. Reminds us how quickly we can tap brains, hearts, souls & healing processes just by sharing a tune & asking: What's your favorite song?

This is a great video, although I don't know who produced it, but coming in with the loud music at the end, drowning out what the speaker is saying is just ridiculous.

I use music to keep my mom cheerful and motivated when we have to do things she doesn't like, like bathing. I'll play her favorite band, The Beatles, in the background while I help her bathe. It's surprising how most things are hard for her to remember and words seems to be difficult after her second stroke (ephagia) but the moment a Beatles song comes on, she's singing all the words perfectly! Music is such a powerful thing for everyone in every situation.
