Thanks for the informative review! When I first saw this set, I wasn't sure if I liked the knight. As I watched your review, the knight and the rest of the set grew on me until it became the first set of that much money that I'd consider buying. I really like its elegantly practical design. The knight's head has just enough detail, and the simple neck leading into the body makes for a stunning contrast to the ornate knights we expect to see in a high quality set. The eight indents in the king's crown nicely represent the bands of the imperial closed crown, and the indents complement the eight points of the queen's open crown. I like everything about the set. It looks great on the matching board.

Very nice set. I would want it, but too expensive. Official World chess however is played with a DGT board and DGT sensors in the pieces. I can't find anything on the side referring to that

Very nice review - awesome chess set! You mention in the video it's a fully wooden board, however, the board you linked to says it is "a veneer Rosewood and Maple Board." The "premium set" for $679 is the one that comes with a fully wooden board. Love your channel ❤

Those Boards are Fide approved but they are not the boards used in championship matches. The boards used in all major tournaments are The DGT Electronic Chessboard with USB connections. They are around $1000-1500 per unit. So if your going to spend 600 on the board in this video save your money and then buy the DGT board when you have a thousand or more to splurge. You can get cheaper versions Im sure but it wouldn't be what most fanatics would want. ChessHouse has the boards everyone wants

The King size on both is shorter than on many sets. 3.75 and 3.5 inches (9cm) and the other about 8.4cm. Many sets have kings that are much taller which I find awkward. The lower height is more in keeping with the other pieces and less likely to topple. Also bigger pieces do not fit the very common 2 inch (50mm) squares on flexible boards. So I like both of these sets a lot more than most! Nice review.

Doesn’t matter who the seller is, but it’d be cool to watch a video on different bundle deals for example, and listen to your take on them. Maybe some tips to save money, recommendations and advice for clocks(digital and analog), recommended dimensions, etc. (houseofstaunton has a summer sale going on: 20% off orders over $250 I believe). Canadian dollars this is around nine hundred dollars. Looks amazing. Just shy of a thousand dollars for a set though wow that’s a set to save for!!

Been looking for a good chess set, but I honestly don't like the indications for white and black side of the board. Any novice player could tell you that the white square starts on the right. Then the queens go on their colors. It almost feels like a scratch mark to me.

I prefer the Romanian/Hungarian set over the FIDE World Championship set. I know Hikaru hates the World Championship set. I like the Knights from the plastic version more than the wooden version.

This has been my bucket list chess set too for a while. I am looking to get this set with the Chessnut Pro Board and put the inserts into them. Do you know if the weights in this set would make it a problem to do? Just wondering if there is room for the insert. Thanks. Enjoy the videos.

Too bad the size of the plastic is not the same as the used in the official match. Their pricing is very predatory.

Why did they not write the notation on the sides of the board? It would have made this board complete. You can’t go wrong with recording with a guide. I understand that this is an exact replica but they should have allowed the option to have the notation written on the sides like the portable tournament roll up boards.

What is the board square size? I have heard that the recommended square size for the championship set is 2.25".

It's an interesting but (IMO) flawed set. The Knight *is* ugly with a capital U compared to the rest of the pieces.

Hi! I'm doubting very hard to choose between this FIDE championship chess set and dr Paulsen 1852 of House of Staunton. Which one you like the most? I have no other choice than buying blindly. I just can relay on the internet picture. Just a short answer will be enough for me. Paulsen set or FIDE set?

What’s to be impressed about? It’s just Staunton with weird knights. Bring back the beautiful Chavet of the 90’s and stop reinventing the design. It ain’t broke, stop fixing it, they’re just making it weird. What’s next, king with a trump bible instead of cross??

The design is a minor variation on existing pieces, with a pig-ugly new knight added which has nothing to do with the rest of the set. The job was given to a firm of architects, so I guess nothing better could be expected. Any decent copy of an original Jaques set would have been superior in all ways.
