Dan, Grubb, and Mike ride down the lane highways and blast music notes, coach a football team to victory, spin their hair into a mini helicopter, and speculate who would be into .hacking. #demodiscs #opm #giantbomb
The No Signal thing happens when the RetroTINK and/or the Elgato takes time to find the video signal after losing it. That can happen for a few reasons, including resolution changes (which some PS2 games actually do, especially when using Component cables). But in this case, it's probably because when switching games on the demo disc, the PS2 likely does some sort of reset, momentarily dropping the video signal completely. But Dan mentions having the RetroTINK 5x Pro, which actually has the ability to handle resolution changes with zero issues -- it's one of its main advertised features. A quick Google search says that in the 5x's menu, you need to go to "HDMI" and set V-Sync to "Triple Buffer" to eliminate issues with resolution changes -- games like Chrono Cross, Silent Hill, and that game in the previous Demo Derby will be displayed flawlessly from the 5x. That said, I'm not sure if that will fix a video signal dropping completely, like I suspect is happening when a demo is loaded. But at least it's not in the middle of a game in that case. Just note that setting V-Sync to Triple Buffer adds a tiny amount of lag, so don't set it when playing games where even a frame or two of lag can mess you up, e.g. Punch-Out.
Demo Derby and Blight Club with this crew is Giant Bomb. You guys have legit made me believe GB is back for the first time in ages. Please keep doing what you are doing!
I don't care about wrestling really, but I always like hearing Dan be really hype about it, it's nice to hear people talk about things they really love
Holy shit, imagine having your videogame choreographed by bona fide Hong Kong action cinema legend Cory Yuen. Guaranteed they never managed to translate even a fraction of that talent to the screen lol
Dan's ability to gaslight himself is simultaneously amusing and infuriating. "If I want it to be true I will angrily repeat it until everyone gives up explaining why I'm wrong."
So glad these are coming out more frequently. It's always a delight. Any chances other hosts can make the series? Or will it mostly be the Blight Club Crew? for lack of a better term
I remember getting a demo disk with Amplitude on it for my ps2, it was the Network adapter 2.0 disk. So many memories of playing the same couple songs over and over. I also remember playing THPS 4 online using Dial-up, It felt so futuristic. I had played Diablo 1 online but game consoles going online was so novel to me.
Excuse me, Mr. Tolkto! That "weird Resident Evil thing" was Resident Evil Outbreak (and Outbreak File #2) and they were awesome. 4 player online coop Resident Evil, set during the events of RE2/RE3, with big (for the time) maps exploring parts of Raccoon City we'd never seen before. They're exactly what RE multiplayer should be and it's insane they haven't brought the series back.
I will say the first time i saw an HD trailer for Devil May Cry 4 on my shitty first generation no brand HD TV definitely blew my mind at the time but i still agree that's not the biggest leap.
You all saying that about not liking that basketball games camera is hilarious because that is the most commonly used camera amongst 2K players and it’s basically become a meme at this point making fun of people who don’t use it. The “side view” is called broadcast and broadcast users are immediately roasted lol.
I tried out the .hack GU collection with this steam sale and unfortunately the tone and cutscenes leave a lot to be desired compared to the original game. I never played the sequels, and it's a shame GU is the only thing you can get on PC. The main character is a super edge lord for some reason, the story is unintelligible. KH3 storytelling is much more coherent. Too bad, because I really enjoyed what .hack was going for at the time and the anime DVDs included in the cases actually added to the story if you wanted to get into the story more. It was doing really cool things for the time.
Do your Live show wrestling entrances like how WhatCulture did theirs on their Live show by using 16bit wrestling entrance music for each host. Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.
As someone who plays music my take on the Beatles has always been I personally find their music bland and boring, but their recordings where revolutionary and doing things no one at the time thought of or did and they changed the world, and they where the first band to get their records to sound good even when comparing to "modern" bands. The problem is if they came out NOW with the same skill level they are not remembered the amazing recording quality skews peoples thoughts. They are overrated as a general ruling when remembered as "one of the best bands ever" change "best" to "important" and I can agree, otherwise I think you are nuts. I think the same think about Hendrix.
Dan runs jokes into the ground worse than any human being in history. edit- DAN. LINK IS AN ELF! What happened to New Dan? How is he getting WORSE again?
What are you on? Elves don't exist in the Zelda world. Link and Zelda are clearly inspired by elves but they're not in-universe. They're Hylians and nothing more. And the similarities are pretty shallow - they have very little to do with fantasy elves except looks. And it's pretty obvious it's mostly the focus on lore and on-dynamic combat he doesn't like, so Zelda passes. Calling Link an elf is like calling Yuffie from FF7 Japanese. She has all the traits but Japan doesn't exist in FF7.
