There was an update that mentioned that there is a lawsuit being filed against the biolab. Let’s hope they take responsibility and prevent ANOTHER problem.
Anybody else find it disturbing that a rep from the EPA refers to Biolab as a "corporate partner" and talks on their behalf saying that "Biolab "is not prepared to make a statement"? The EPA is supposed to be a regulatory agency; not a "partner" to a polluting company! Being too congenial with such companies is a problem! Maybe that's why the EPA allowed this to happen more than once! Also, why has nobody devised a method to surround plumes like this and neutralize them? It is worrisome that this gas might go anywhere in Georgia. I'm in Stone Mountain and growing vegetables for me to eat because grocery stores are becoming too expensive. This better not contaminate my food crops and soil! If I find out they absorb this crap and there is any health risk from that I'll be looking into legal remedies, and I'm sure other people will be as well. EPA; do your damn job and stop playing footsie under the table with corporate overlords!
Sounds like they're similar to the FDA and USDA according to RFK Jr he wants to dismantle those two for the same sht. Our government is in shambles it's time for a reboot.
I hear you and wholeheartedly understand. I live within 6 miles of Biolab, and I also have a vegetable garden. I chose not to go in-ground. I thank god that I made the decision to instead go with a raised container garden. The portability allowed me to quickly & safely move my collards, kale, bok choy, chard, carrots, beets, etc. to the indoors because of this Biolab fiasco. Of course the food grown in-ground will be contaminated, no doubt about it. Soil and crops don't stand a chance from the microscopic chemical dust that the plumes emit they have no other place to go than to be absorbed by the soil, especially as rainy Fall season approaches. Keep samples of your harvests, but please do not eat them until you have them and your soil properly tested, and keep legal counsel on speed dial for the inevitable repercussions of this debacle.

Fire on the roof from faulty ductwork. Fire triggered sprinkler systems. The water from the sprinklers caused the fire to ignite because the chemicals are activated by water. @kayrutledge1970
From yesterday's Gwinnett press conference: A sprinkler malfunctioned and sprayed water on a chemical that reacts to H2O by heating up and causing a fire. Obviously, this company should do a much better job maintaining their sprinkler system or switch to a non-water fire retardant.

We are on our own. Just like East Palestine, OH, Atlanta is being poisoned and it will harm us. The health system is not prepared, nor are we able to afford the care and remidiation that will be necessary to protect the health of people and the environment. Due to deregulation, protective agencies can monitor things, but will offer nothing else.

How are businesses and residents to be compensated for losses other than having to file a lawsuit? Most businesses are closed due to the shelter in place.

Smoke from a fire in a building manufacturing chlorine and bromine pool products can be extremely dangerous due to the highly toxic and irritating nature of these chemicals when burned, posing a significant risk to respiratory health and causing severe irritation to eyes, skin, and mucous membranes; immediate evacuation and proper protective gear are crucial in such situations. The people close to where this fire occurred are in extreme danger
Rockdale county is shelter in place but the rest of us are having to go on with life while breathing in air that smells like a swimming pool it’s amazing how they say the whole state is affected but feel like life outside Rockdale County is not worth warning

In most cases sprinklers are great and help to keep us safe, but WHY were they located over the top of water-reactive and toxic materials? I am at a loss as to how/why this keeps happening (this is the second such incident I believe) where the failure of a sprinkler over a large mass of such material causes a hazmat superstorm. Why would a company facing such a disaster not be smart enough to NOT put material like this underneath sprinklers? Is this a codes thing because I do not understand why?
How are you on top of it when the plumes are already in the sky and the fire is burning? How is a serious conversation going to help in aftermath of people being exposed and their health expenses due to the affects of being exposed. Where’s your action plan for the people?
Why has no one asked what Rockdale County Fire Department used when initially called to put out the fire? In all pics I’ve seen, it looked like water. Is thIS EPD the same EPD that declared the area around East Palestine, Ohio? Are they using the same monitors that failed to read the major toxicity in that city? Is this the same government that is “here to help”?
Water (H2O) doesn't work with the chemical products at this site. Require the facility to store fire fighting chemicals on property or supply the nearest fire station with these tools. Store the product properly. Treat the product like an explosive.

Cooperate partner!!! This is crazy. Government officials and the powers that be who have obviously failed in playing their role in ensuring that safety protocols were maintained and for 3rd time , should be held accountable. This is a third strike, come on . Businesses are affected , community members , etc , the immediate response should be to shut them down. They should have never been allowed to remain there or be in any community for that matter . Cooperate partner or not . Greed and the love of money is going to kills us. If anyone is aware of any community initiatives about this situation, please share because if the "government officials" laid in bed with their cooperate partners 2 times before I wont be surprised if nothing comes out of this.
