In 1969 i was in 7th grade in Florida. The dress code for girls went like this: if you wore a dress/skirt to school the teacher made you kneel on the floor and if your dress didnt touch the floor you were sent to see the principle. So mine was “too short” so he bent me over and hit me 5 times with a paddle! It was humiliating! When my father found out he went to the school and was ready to throw down on this man who he called a pervert bcuz why bend a girl over if her dress is already “too short!”

Here in America that would be unthinkable but obviously there is a way to raise kids to be mature and without hitting if they know how to do it in Europe!!! I was actually talking to someone from Germany who was living and teaching here and she was shocked to find out hitting children is legal and socially acceptable here, and she was also shocked at how much worse behaved and less expected kids are to handle themselves and venture off than kids are in her country. i used to get hit with a wood paddle with holes drilled into it in grade school a lot, like weekly, and i wasn't really a bad kid i was shy and scared to go to school.I don't remember why i was hit in any of those cases, from first grade to sixth grade . It didn't bother me much because my alcoholic step father beat me at home all the time too so i was used to it. I had one teacher mrs. carter in 5th grade she loved to paddle me and looked for any excuse to do it. She called me a liar often as well when i was just telling exactly what was true. I never did like school, but i loved learning, i did most of my learning at home sneaking with a flashlight under the blankets reading encyclopedias so my step dad wouldn't find out i was still awake and beat me.

Even if a parent firmly believes in corporal punishment, giving a teacher (basically a stranger) permission to *swat* (a euphemism for hit) your child is a good way to teach you children not to trust you! I would not be surprised if this kids mom ends up in a nursing home! My Dads mom basically told one of his teachers that if he needed punishment tell her and she would do it. And, if the teacher ever laid a hand on him again, the teacher would be the one wishing she had listened to the lesson!

That female graduate is a prime example of what is wrong with society, claiming she doesn't "think it is right". If she actually looked at the school policy and the local law she would know if corporal punishment is right or not and if the principal should have been arrested. She just look like a future Karen determining what is right and wrong in her own mind instead of understanding the fact before commenting. SHAME ON THE OVERTON SCHOOL DISTRICT: So here you have a 250lb dominant adult male standing in back of a post pubescent developing 15-18 year old submissive female, as she presents her extended buttocks to him, and he aims and strikes her with a piece of a wood board over and over and over again; 3 times while others stand around and watch the battery upon her body play out with the whole event being videotaped. This is not a scene from an obscene adult film, this is whats going on in the backwoods of an American high school in 2023. Most people would never believe this is legal or even that places like this still exist at all. Here is the Outrageous proof that this abuse is real. How many victims of violence are from in this one school district or from this one school alone?? What about the hundreds and hundreds of people that have been physically and emotionally harmed that have never come forward? Victims of violence deserve justice and their perpetrators should be held accountable--even if it takes years.

I am 62 and was paddled in school... there is zero lasting harm. What does cause harm are people who believe that there should be no discipline, ever in a child's life. Look at how spoiled and self-entitled our citizens have become. Our colleges are filled with such weak people that they now fight to have speech controlled so it doesn't hurt feelings. . The dr. who claimed this was ab use when the parent was standing right there and so was a witness is a fool. Trying to destroy someone's career over a practice that the parent agreed to is wrong. This is also the wrong lesson for the teenager, who will now go wild believing she's a victim...smh

@@user-tc4tk9mo6t WRONG and there are thousands of us victims of violence who absolutely know just how wrong you are and about the physical and psychological harm associated with this abuse that can last a lifetime; and I am older than you. Apparently you have never heard of PTSD. Why don't you educate yourself and learn about this violent battery upon young people still taking place in these backward schools from the vast medical information that has been provided by professional physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists and pediatricians Read also about the hundreds and hundreds of well documented cases and the many incidents of injury and lawsuits filed against negligent school districts. What is sad is that even though you are a victim of this violence and surely know that there are many time proven discipline methods with very effective consequences that do not involve or have to resort to hitting anyone, you still continue to be a proponent of it, and still condone these assaults in our schools. So the cycle of violence continues with you. Whereas I have spent decades fighting neanderthal, narrow minded, hostile people who cling to their ignorance and the culture of violence they were raised with and can't seem to overcome. I and others (brave parents and child advocates and civil rights and human rights activists) have taken the stand that the vioence stops with us and we have made great progress where just this year two more states have outlawed this brutality in our schools making it now 33 states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico where this is banned in public schools. The Mother in this case certainly made a mistake and was negligent in permitting this beating to take place, but that in no way gets the abuser off the hook; and he is not to be excused. The Principal had the final say and could have chosen another non violent method. He chose to resort to the violence and it resorted in injury. He and every single person that does this should be held accountable for their actions. I wouldn't worry too much about his career being destroyed. He has the outrageous brutality of Texas law to back him up since this cruelty is incredibly still legal in this backward area of America. He has done this before no doubt to many many victims and got away with it, and he will surely do more harm to others until he, and people just like him are stopped by laws that rightfully make his actions a crime. What is different here now is that The Principal and this school district will, however, be closely watched until the day comes when these beatings are outlawed in all 50 states. I only hope he and you and I live to see that day soon.

Corporal Punishment is an outdated ineffective authoritarian practice that has dated back to the colonial period. It is a band aid, an intellectually lazy solution, at the cost of children’s mental and emotional health that creates multiple issues for a child in their formative years. A form of punitive discipline that shockingly still exists in 19 states across the USA when other countries have banned such methods like the UK who abolished CP in 1986! The real issues lay in providing parents and children across this country with the resources that are properly funded, trained and staffed with the parental guidance they need, to understand, listen with empathy and compassion and give solution based support. Behaviour issues are the surface of a bigger problem with children who are raised in adverse environments with parents struggling in a society that is toxic and a government that needs to help at grass roots, as it is families who are needing the education to break from generational teachings. The key is empathy and education. I came here back in 2004 and have for 19 years been fortunate enough to have shown millions of families across this country and the world how to create healthier boundaries as I modified the Time Out used in the 1900’s. With the Time Out a parent could have teachable moments with their children without losing one’s composure, whilst still meeting and upholding the child’s emotional needs, remaining attuned and attached. The answer isn't moving backwards, but moving forward where school teachers understand the importance of emotional connection with their pupils whilst educating, where support can be given through counselors and social workers and where parental coaches like myself and teachers are given the support they need, to do a job that has seen many leave in the last 18mths. The scientific evidence speaks for itself and the waiting list for parents in desperate need of help for parental education is at an alarming number. WE MUST NOT NORMALIZE CORPORAL PUNISHMENT, WE MUST BAN IT! Please show your support and opinion. These are our children, we must protect them!

You have some stupid and deranged laws for corporal punishment of students and children in generel in some states. I'm a teacher myself since 1984, and when I started school in 1967 as 7 years old it was forbidden for teachers in Denmark to use corporal punishment. In 1997 it was forbidden for parents to use corporal punisment of their children. You don't use violence to teach students or bring up your children! You are way behind the most of the world in that matter. There is a saying: "Something is rotten in Denmark". I would say:"Something is rotten in the USA", especially when it comes to gun laws, school shootings, mass shootings, police violence and political disagreement etc... I also know of one who had ptsd and had to be put in a mental hospital for some time due to it, the ptsd was that bad.

(words are broken because comment was originally censored which should tell you something) That schools still can and do engage in cor por al pun ish ment is another despicable facet of the already despicable "education" system. Historically, our education system was introduced as obe die nce to auth or ity trai ning, and create a sla ve-like fac tory workforce, NOT TO MAKE YOU INTELLIGENT. This very act of pun ish ment is a ode to that sla ve-training. It is in sane that government ( because school is government and therefore the teachers etc. are government workers ) can in fli ct phy si cal pa in upon a person with the reasoning that they are young or a student. It is absurd. BRIEF HISTORY OF EDUCATION SYSTEM. The education system, otherwise known as com pul sory (FOR CED ) was first introduced in Pru s sia ( modern day Ger many region ) and known as "The Pr us sian Model". It was historically / factually introduced as obe di ence-to-au tho rity tra in ing. After its success, and at the behest of the worlds wealthiest and most politically in flu ent ial people seeking an un ques tion ing sl ave-like workforce and population, this system was introduced worldwide. THIS IS THE VERY SYSTEM WE HAVE TO THIS DAY. People wonder why the education system is so bad and why it doesn't provide so many of the important things you need for life. It is because it was not created or imposed to foster intelligence, but in fact the opposite; with just enough knowledge to make you a functional wage sl ave worker. Really consider this particular example - You lied ( allegedly ) to us ( au th ority ) so we get to i n f l ict phy si cal p a i n on you. (and what likelihood of the same thing for not "lying" and admitting alleged g ui lt?) Now consider that you told someone in your day to day life a lie. Should they then get to in fli ct phy sic al pain on you? Sounds rather unreasonable. Like members of the just ice system / L a w en fo rc e ment who often exhibit a ego tist ical p o wer-hun gry a t ti tude, I find it truly hard to believe that staff willing to im p ose such pe nal t ies upon their students do not themselves have a d e sire for no n-c on sen su al c o ntrol over others. The very fact that they joke amongst themselves in regards to this, such as te a si ng the other staff members for being light on the students, is evidence that they enjoy being able to impose this, co erc ive ly This needs to be ba n n ed countrywide AND the education system needs a complete re-hall: it is not fit or conducive to a society that is supposed to be f r e e.

All these comments against spanking for misbehavior is probably all the parents of the entitled little brats thinkin l rules don't apply to them, always doing wrong and then crying, arguing and denying. Our pricipal spanked us and it was simple, don't misbehave if you don't want to get spanked.

yes, discipline and spanking is good, but not a man with a teenage girl!

Old School punishment. Looks like a wooden cutting board with holes drilled in it be better aerodynamic. Better than a WHIP. Singapore uses a Bamboo Cane against the back. Nothing like a good Caning for bad, / bad behavior !

Wow! Corporal punishment is still a thing? I presumed at first this story was from some third-world dictatorship and the Texas placeline was a mistake. It's difficult to believe this still happens. In 2004 (Canadian Foundation for Children, Youth and the Law v. Canada), the Supreme Court of Canada outlawed corporal punishment in all schools, public or private. The practice itself had largely been abandoned in the 1970s when parents placed greater scrutiny on the treatment of children at school. And yet, south of the border in the land of the guns and violence, and apparently corporal punishment, your teachers still beat up kids.

I don’t think it’s a thing in Michigan because I never heard of anybody getting paddled at school, but when I moved to Florida when I was in eighth grade, yeah… They paddled in Florida and I couldn’t believe it. This was in 1986 and I’m still shocked that they’re still doing it today. I think it’s disgusting. I also think a man should not be paddling any child because I don’t think he realizes his own strength, not to mention, men typically are more perverted than females.

This is with a father to his son, a parent to their children. Not a pervert (man) paddling a teenage girl. Here are the verses: prov. 13:24 He who withholds his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him diligently. Prov. 29:17 Correct your son, and he will give you comfort; He will also delight your soul.

No one should hit anyone. If the teens boyfriend had hit her that would be considered domestic assault, why all of a sudden is assault okay between parent and child(
@Mr.Goodkat

@@sarayoung9395 Same reason parent's putting holes in their children's bodies without their consent is okay, why them mutilating their bodies is okay (genital mutilation, very common) why them denying them life saving treatment is okay (blood transfusions is only one example) if you do that to anyone else it's called murder. Same reason them arranging to have them abducted in the middle of the night and taken against their will to "re-education" programs (anyone else called kidnapping) which are known to be rife with physical and sexual abuses, is okay, they don't get charged with ANYTHING if their children commit suicide from the damage incurred there or die when in those places, that's somehow not "child neglect" or endangerment. Same reason it's okay for them to tell their children what God's they must believe in, what afterlife they believe in, what practises and thoughts they have on the "big questions" even by force if necessary, we wouldn't call any of these things "okay" if done to anyone else, even hardened, remorseless criminals but we exclusively reserve it only for those we care about protecting most? Do it to anyone else and it's considered so immoral to the point of criminality, again including vile criminals they've been protected from CP for hundreds of years and many of the other things I named above for much longer and this is far from a complete list sadly, there is many more things I could go over would be criminal if done to anyone else but all of us for thousands of days of our lives whilst growing taller? and we expect a healthy species to come from this? despite seeing every generation show up all innocent and starry eyed and then go through this and come out waging wars and bickering over nonsense, none of us showed up like that.

Of course the principal will get away with this battery. It doesn't matter who approved of the assault ncluding the victim herself. Why is this violence still an issue in 2023? Surely the adult male did not enjoy doing that with the teenage females buttocks?? Did he? Heavens no,,,,Mmmm
