Love the tutorial vids! One thing that may be helpful for finding rule 5 eligible players: I go to player list, set it to "entire organization", then create a filter for only guys that are eligible to be taken. Gives you the ability to compare guys right next to each other when deciding who to protect, rather than scrolling through the different rosters.
Really helpful as always. I always seem to forget that my job as GM is all about the off-season and seeing the work that goes into roster management made me realise where I’m needing improvement
Wow this is a really good tip I've already had this happen to me several times where I accidentally leave someone on my 40 man that completely garbage and then have to demote them to a lower league then try to throw them in as an extra in a trade. Glad there a why to check how many years they have left
Loving going through these tutorials, even as a more experienced (notice I didn't say good) player. Noting option years right away is a detail I haven't thought to do but definitely should. For rule 5 guys, I make a filter with "team is *triple-a team* or team is *double-a team* or etc." and put that on in the rule 5 draft pool and sort by overall to see which guys I need to worry about. Might be easier than writing them all down through the minor leagues screen :)
Ha yes, thanks!! Someone recently pointed out to me if you go to the players tab, you can show all players in organization and filter by rule 5 status. Much easier than my other approach.
Thanks again for these great videos! I went into my offseason with the Cardinals thinking I had a plan in place ... got to February with Spring Training about to kick off and realized my minor league system is woefully short on players ... I know in the past you’ve said you like to keep your minor league rosters at approx. 35 players, after renewing those expiring ML contracts do you fill the rest of those spots out via free agency? And if there is a video where you dive into this part of the game, please feel free to point me in that direction! Thanks as always, and happy holidays!
Yeah, I fill out my minor league teams with free agents seeking minor league deals. In terms of videos, I’ve got two on player development and minor leagues but sounds like you may have seen those already. Thanks, Matt! Happy holidays to you as well
I made the mistake to not activate a player that was on my 60 day IL, when I realised it was too late to trade away the player to free up a roster spot. So make sure to check your IL and 40 man roster changes.
