Perfect for a specific type of boater! This Wellcraft 355 is an impressive, functional and fun piece of kit that has the ability to expand your areas of operation by extending your boating season or oppenning up new destinations because of the 35kts sustained cruise speeds in rough water.
She's bloody good looking too! But serously if you have owned something like a Boston Whaler Outrage and you're now looking for more protection from the elements then this Wellcraft may be worth your attention.
Please enjoy!

I was very excited about the Wellcraft 355, and approached it at a local boat show ready to pull out the checkbook. Alas, I did not like the helm position at all. As a big, tall guy, the downward-sloping roofline made the top of the windshield too low for me. I did not have an adequate view forward when standing at the helm. In addition, the helmchair was snugged right up against the starboard door/overhead panel and the right side my head was uncomfortably close to the overhead panel when seated or standing. Another problem was the single passenger chair to port -- it has insufficient leg room for anyone over about 5' 6". I was very disappointed that the 355 Wellcraft had serious shortcomings for me -- it has so many pluses in terms of its performance and design. I ended up buying a Boston Whaler 350 Realm, same size as the Wellcraft, open center console. It's not as well- equipped for cruising as the 355 Wellcraft but much more comfortable and safe for me to drive. The 350 Realm is a fine boat but I was disappointed that the Wellcraft 355 did not make the cut.

This is facinating! I'm 5'7 which is why I had no problem but I can see for big tall guys how this would be an issue. I wonder if Wellcraft should consider a Series II version where they lower the floor to create the space for guys like you.? This would retain the good looks and allow you taller blokes to actually fit behind the helm. I must say a lot of the US designs seem to factor tall people in a lot better than the Euro designs. Are Americans just taller in general?

thank you for the "heads up". i am also over 6ft and also notice that a lot of boats (and boaters) tend to be designed for under 5'8"

I watched your review of rhe XO dfndr 9 and convinced me to put some money aside for that, but now that I see this beauty… great review, love the channel. Question: do you think the option of a SEAKEEPER 3 is worth offshoring in the North Sea?

I was a fan of Axopar until Welcraft released this! When Axopar was only having the 28 and 37,I was hoping for the release one bigger in the 40s as I love their hulls except I feel they are a bit too low.This wellcraft is perfect of what I wish Axopar had

Dan, we love the channel...great detailed review. We were looking at bow riders such as 325 Grady, 33 Southport and 31 Albemarle for some protection. The wife and I just looked at a 37 Axopar and she fell in love. I don't feel we will overnight much but how does this boat ride vs the Axopar. The quality from the video looks to be just ok vs the Axopar ?? Last question how does this larger heavier boat with this style front end that does the cutting ride vs the 325 Grady. We both liked the ride of that boat as well as the 33 SouthPort which I feel rode just slightly better. Still need to get on the 31 Albemarle.

Oh glad it's helping!All three are excellent boats so you really need to ask yourself if overnighting will be important to you or not as this is where Wellcraft will stand out. Regarding the performance I was an Axopar salesman for years so have done hundreds of hrs on them. The Wellcraft has many similarities but she's also quite different. Her extra mass is noticeable and will require a little bow done trim on acceleration for best performance. Then settle into a cruise speed of 35kts in my opinion as that is where the hull feels her best. She feels more like an American boat. Comparing to the Grady they will both be very competent in big seas. When we get some big storms again i'll pop out to sea and film the Wellcraft in swells so everyone can see. The difference with a cutting bow is you need to drive it more than a Grady. The Grady will just take the seas from multiple angles and you're fine. A cutting Axopar or Wellcraft is best when the knife edge is cutting directly into the oncoming seas and depending on the wave height and period you would vary your speed so as to not bury the nose and get wet. Both designs will provide a fast and comfortable offshore ride to be fair.

Looks very purposeful on the water. Serious bit of kit there. Would love to drive it but hate to have refuel given UK marina gas prices

I guess it depends on your typical mission because with high speeds you can generally get to your destination with a reasonable amount of fuel burn. Did you know in Malaysia a litre of 95 unleaded is 75 cents!!
@kirkwilliams4942

Love it, just wish she could be powered by two 300 or 350 twins. Triples just use SO much fuel. But she is beautiful. I suppose if you can afford a $600K + vessel you can surely afford the fuel. We have norrowed down our next boat to the True North 34OE, about the same price but twin Suziki's, the Aspen Cat C107, and if we could really afford it the Nordhaven N41.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife 11 месяцев назад
I have driven the Nordhavn 41 and wow thats a sweet boat. The Aspen and True North I haven't got any experience with however as I don't think they are in Australia? I have only ever seen one True North in Sydney which i assume was privately imported. Re the Wellcraft those new Mercury's are actually pretty good on fuel relative to others but yes you probably could whack a pair of V10 400's on the back and get decent performance?

This is definitely a new style for Wellcraft, even they must be getting bored with the center consoles. It is very Axopar-esk, Not having been on either, which do you prefer? Wellcraft has always been a bit pricey. I believe the Axopar has them beat in that category. But you do get what you pay for most times. Another great video. Thank you.

Both are excellent hulls. I sold Axopars for 5 years so know them well. If i wanted a boat to spend full weekends on I would choose the Wellcraft. The Axopar does everything very, very well except for overnights and real toilets so that is the point I would be thinking about if I was trying to decide between the two.

Given the many choices available today, I was left wondering with the Wellcraft, if 'more' - speed, weight, cost but also accommodation - actually delivers a commensurate amount of value.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife 11 месяцев назад
I think to somebody stepping across from a Boston Whaler or similar will see value in it. If you are comparing directly with Axopar and Saxdor then no. But the Wellcraft is a more substantial boat with better accomodation so it needs to be seen in that light I think

Thanks! Combining my dual passions for boats and drone flying so hope this is helping. I'm on my 6th drone now but currently using Mavic 3 Classic and a Mini 3 Pro. I turn all the sensors off which allows me to get really low and then I hide in the cabin and the captain tells me when waves are coming so i can fly over them instead of into them.
