This is my own version of a punch shot rig that became know as a Tokyo rig later in years, as a wired version. This is a non wired version that 100% catches more fish. Cheaper, less moving parts, clear, doesn't break down, it's a no brainer, have fun!

Great video. Just referenced you in a video I just did. This is one of the videos I keep handy as a reference to show people techniques they may have not used. This version has made fishing a heavily weeded lake fishable where other rigs just brought up tons of weeds.

Kreh loop, or lefty loop, for the people that will search for it. i know how to look for it, but I cannot tie it anywhere near as well as nick is doing in the video (channeling his inner fly man). So for us lazy goobers I'm going to take a wild guess and say a palomar with a vmc ringed wide gap is an option. Improved clinch knot used on the spit ring. For the people that aren't paying attention... if you don't use them bobber stops and use tungsten weights if they get to much movement they will break the bottom tie off knot on the ring. There are solid rings you can use instead of a split ring. I really like how this shows how the sames concepts can be applied in different ways, so experimentation is always good.

Cool vid....I'm interested to try. I like the Tokyo rig. I'm just curious if this actually works as good as a pre rigged hook with a wire. I guess if the plastic you're using floats you're good to go but if it doesn't than this whole rig will be sitting on the floor. I'm sure it still catches fish....I just like how the wire keeps it up off the bottom (for the most part). I do agree though this is a more affordable way to go for sure & good to know if you don't have a pre-rig with you & you feel like Tokyo rigging will get you bit.

ZeroHero watch underwater footage of the wired version. It really doesn’t keep it off. This rig is way better, doesn’t catch a bunch of junk on the wires either. Thanks brotha 🤙🏼

So IKE argues that it’s totally different than a short leader drop shot bc of the solid wire makes the bait behave totally free from the weight and helps keep the bait up off bottom on slack line and the drop shot doesn’t. I tend to lean towards both being almost identical but if you would compare underwater that would be LEGIT!!
@InformativeFisherman
@InformativeFisherman 4 года назад
This is completely slack as well, it's on a loop knot! I will compare, thanks bro!

Informative Fisherman myth buster, always wonder what the secret to using a Tokyo rig seem to be. There are many supposedly new innovations to catching fish that failed to catch on or turn out to be no better than old ones. If you advertise the hell out of something people buy it even if there junk. Truthfully if you get everyone fishing some new lure with massive advertising, it only takes a few success to make people run to buy them up like crazy. Example number two, giant swimbaits for bass, there is no denying they don’t catch big bass where bass eat big baitfish. However, there are many more places that have low populations of large bass willing or wanting to eat giant swim baits. The only thing promoting giant swimbaits did well; was selling more giant swimbaits, rods, reels and hooks. Before California angles thought they invented using giant swimbaits for catching bass; Musky anglers were occasionally catching big bass on giant Musky lures. I know this because I fishing long before anyone thought of this money making innovation. Even longer ago than that; Florida guides used giant live shiners to target giant bass. It don’t take a Brain Surgeon to figure out they likely would eat big fake looking ones too. Sometimes if you throw rocks at something you don’t like; one bounces back and hits you in the head. When I saw that Tokyo Rig, I never thought I need to waste my money for them things.

Honestly the Vmc Tokyo rig isn’t that much $3-5 and with all the knots you gotta the to make this happen I’m not convinced it’s worth it. Also I can remove weight easily worth the Tokyo rig with some pliers. With this rig you gotta cut the split ring off and retie. Keep to yur strengths which are giving us all good advice on approaching bass fishing. I do miss more of those videos. And you are one of the best in explaining these topics to the lamen.

You are showing a Rig called "Heavy Down Shot" or Heavy Drop Shot". It's definitely a great rig but it's not actually Tokyo Rig. Tokyo Rig has to use a wire shaft for connecting to the sinker. It's a different method.
