Both guitarist play 7-strings, rhythm guitar and growling vocals Mark Jansen plays an Ibanez and the lead guitarist Isaac DelaHaye plays an 7-string Gibson LesPaul. And yes, they played in the States many times, last year they toured with Swedish powermetal band Sabaton. Epica is a Dutch symphonic metal band.

So pleased you'll be reacting to Epica and Nightwish in tandem..... great news! For Epica, you'll need 'Consigned to Oblivion' - Live at the Zenith, Victims of Contingency, Skeleton Key and even Kingdom of Heaven Part 3. That'll keep you going for a short while.

Hi Amie, a brief history of the band, EPICA are a Symphonic Metal band from the Netherlands (Dutch) they released their first album 21 years ago, they have released 8 incredible studio albums, many EPs and other projects, EPICA have the widest range of styles, and sounds of any band that I can think of, their music ranges from breathtakingly beautiful, very catchy, through vast landscapes of Prog Metal, all the way to very heavy, with death metal elements, it's impossible to pin them down to one kind of music, they are their own genre 🙃

Recently vocalist Simone Simons released her first solo video's, Aeterna and In Love We Rust, with Arjen Anthony Lucassen (Ayreon). Simone has contributed to the Ayreon project both on studio albums and during the (rare) live concerts. Epica will give a live concert with orchestra in September in the Netherlands and in December in Mexico-City.

In case no one else has mentioned it, this is Epica’s tenth anniversary concert. They don’t normally play with an orchestra. They do play in the US from time to time. I saw them with Sabaton in Pittsburgh in October 2022. 🤘🤘Speaking of Sabaton, you may want to check them out. Power metal band from Sweden. A lot of their songs are about military history. Another recommendation is Ayreon, a project from Dutch composer/musician Arjen Lucassen. The music video for “The Day That The World Breaks Down” is a good place to start.

To me, the beginning sounds like the classical composer Gustav Maler. But I'm not an expert. The keyboard player drove around the stage on a Segway for a while. He has since been banished to rails and can only drive from left to right on backside of the stage. For trips to the edge of the stage, he now has a semi-circular, portable keyboard. And because of his bald head, he has now shaved off all his hair. Simone Simonis' role model is Tarja Turunen, the first singer of Nightwish. She is friends with the third singer Floor Jansen. The founder of Epica also founded After Forever, where Floor was the first to sing: Epica - Sancta Terra (feat Floor Jansen) Live Retrospect show Epica is currently touring Europe. In December they will be in Mexico City, with an orchestra but without a choir. One of the two concerts is already sold out. They will probably come to the USA next year. Your music probably won't sound as good with an orchestra as it does with a symphonic metal band. The symphonics plan for an orchestra from the beginning, even if it ends up being just a synthesizer.

In december they will play two shows in Mexico City, Again with orchestra and choir. Probably it is sold old, but maybe you can get a ticket somewhere. I'll see the same show in Amsterdam where they also play two times. (Initially there was only one show planned at each location, but the tickets were gone instantly).

Simone Simons is the vocalist and she is good friends with Floor Jansen (Nightwish). Checkout Epica singing Sancta Terra live with Floor at this same gig. You will love it !

they did go to the states a few times they are from the Netherlands though. if you like this song you really should check oiut the rest of this conecrt or others. this was my first song i hear and thought wtf live and nclean and ochestraa !!! thats a win !! by the way she is a red head.. (not 100% pure i think)

No, European metal band don't get much traction in the US because of the almost monopolistic way promotion and concerts are handled. And then there is a whole lot of "not invented here" as well. The result? There are a ton of bands that play a very similar style of music. One example is metal core "boy" bands. There is and have been hundreds of them and only a few really stand out from the many. It is so easy to listen to an unknown metal band and guess whether or not they are from the US.

Floor & Simone were roommates back over 10 years ago. Floor was Simone's vocal coach for a short time , Floor is 4 years older.

Please stop with this fabricated story. NO they weren't roommates EVER. For one they never went to the same schools as they grew up in completely different parts of The Netherlands. After highschool Floor went to the Dutch Rock Academy and Simone never did go to that Academy. When Simone joined Epica at age 17 she was still in highschool while Floor was already 21 years old and gratuated from the Dutch Rock Academy. Also Floor was NEVER Simone's vocal coach.

I actually support most those bands. In fact Metallica was the band I grew up on. I used to be able to play almost all their songs on guitar up to the black album, they were and are a staple in my life. Also, I absolutely enjoy lovebites, band maid, Hanabie, nemophila, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. Much love my friend 😊 🧡
