"Mwahaha, puny fools. We are are Hitler-Hirohito, and with the combined power of our infinity stones, no one can stand in our way towards total domination."
I actually looked it up. The game was given Street Fighter DLC-levels of budget, so they had to bring back and tweak some UMvC3 models to make them fit in the art style. Kinda wonder if Chris was one of them.
@@BROXBasherSo if the budget was so small, why not just make an update to UMVC that replaced xfactor with the infinity stones and just add new MCU and capcom characters and called it UMVCI?
I love how the title cards are like "88 days since the convergence." Damn...you'd think maybe that'd be the slightest bit more effective if we...oh I don't know... SAW THE CONVERGENCE AT ALL?!?!
They could’ve done something like Secret Wars with dimensions and universes literally colliding. Or Doctor Strange finding the Capcom Universe when Ultron and Sigma start combining. Or the Ultron hive mind jumping into different universes to 1-up the Avengers. Or Dormammu warning Strange as a weird villains-and-heroes-unite. Or Rocket and the Guardians finding an anomaly. Or Thor and Heimdall conversing over Heimdall’s visions. Or Stark being his genius-self monitoring villains like Ultron. Like this takes minimal investment from the writer’s department. And you can easily reuse assets for things in some of these examples like the Chaos Realm for Dormammu warning Strange. I just can’t forgive how lazy this is...
i just realized just about nobody has facial motion for their eyes in the in-game cutscenes. liek their eyebrows dont move at all and the refuse to move their eyeballs. i dont think i say anybody look around with their eyes, they HAVE to turn their head to see something. its so damn weird to notice it now.
That's what it is! There was just something so awkward about these cutscenes and I couldn't put my finger on it. Well, that and the stilted character models, the voice acting, the direction, the generic trailer music, the awkward scripting and delivery, the lacking of legacy characters....
@@herosshade2247 well it gives off an awkward action figure feel. i first noticed it with Cap. i thought something seemed off, then i realized his mask never animates so he cant move is eyebrows, THEN i realized his eyes never move, *THEN* i realized everybody seems to have this going on. Chris was another stand out that made me realize this.
If you've ever played Sonic 06, you'll see this exact issue of "character's eyes cant move so just rapidly jerk their head around" movement, even has that same shitty mocap animation with them flailing their arms around.
24:57 Those 50+ slots in the dev menu were actually slots for “story mode scenes.” The devmenu was all written in Japanese, and so Fchamp assumed those slots were for playable characters without reading. Eventhubs believed him and further spread the misinformation. I hope that clears up some things. Nice video. Keep up the good work, Max.
I gotta get this bumped up so Max can take notice. The hype was real back in the day, so this actually helps bandage the old wound of not actually getting 60 characters
The characters that are incredibly familiar with each other, like Cap and Tony Stark wouldn’t call one another “Captain America” and “Iron Man” respectively. They’re friends. It’s the most absurd thing in an entire game of absurdities.
@@MidnightKingL Steve Roger's and Tony Stark don't have se rent identities. Fuck, Stark actively promotes himself as Iron Man and Roger's is a WW2 hero.
@@JoseBronxRican. It's most likely a Resident Evil situation: Fit for the first game or two, but after the series got bigger, the name just kind of stuck.
I feel like there are some bits of dialogue where the lines aren't actually terrible (not great, but not bruh), but the performance lets it down. (Take the "for you, Rocket, anything," bit--as a line in a script, there's nothing really horrendous about it, but then it actually gets delivered and yeezus how did that come out so badly?)
@@Next-xm2dh He's clearly a master of stealth, as well shows his usual hobby of running at ridiculous speeds in open areas swinging a large blade about.
The worst thing about MvCI"s story mode is that the voice acting sounds so off. Which is weird because they used good voice actors for this game. The direction was just so off.
@AT Productions Same. But Kingdom Hearts suffered the same fate. The voice acting was pretty good in 2, Birth By Sleep (minus Terra) and even Dream Drop Distance (though Sora sounds weird because Haley Joel Osment is trying to do KH1 Sora when he was almost 30.) 3 was when everyone except Sora, Ventus and Roxas sounded so off.
The story mode feels like it’s written by someone on fanfiction starting their story with, “Don’t flame- this is my first story.” Jesus Christ this dialogue is bad.
I dont expect to have a great story, only.morons wish for great story in fighting games, only NRS can have a good story and its still cheesy, though i expect capcom to have better art than this
Watersports It’s not even the plot line- the thing was gonna be a mess from the beginning with the crossover idea. It’s how it feels like the characters aren’t themselves. I expected good writing for Rocket, Iron Man, maybe Thor and Dante too. But it’s so bad it’s like they hired literally the worst people and gave them 5 weeks to come up with a story and dialogue. Like I’ve seen high schoolers on fanfiction write characters better than this.
*Fun Fact* : The only reason Laura Bailey didn’t do both Chun-Li & Black Widow is because Marvel called dibs on her & didn’t allow actors to voice characters across sides (I think Laura mentioned on Twitter that she was surprised that she wasn’t doing both when she came in to record). So if Asura or Gill actually made it in, they would have been recast since Liam O’Brien was already Doctor Strange.
DuelaDent -52- I honestly have no idea. These actors are clearly talented enough to do multiple characters, Laura especially. Even Laura said she’s more than down to return as Chun-Li in future games, so I would imagine that she’ll return in SFVI. And I can’t even begin to fathom the idea of Liam not voicing Gill or *especially* Asura.
Well by definition he is literally a heathen god... and what do you mean by "so called" Christian knights? Christianity and knighthood were pretty intertwined.
@@ProfessorShnacktime if you’re supporting Christianity I agree. There’s clear reasons why pagan belief was smashed, but I’m not sure that’s how Jesus would do it. On second thought, I am sure, Jesus would not smash to show people the truth.
Spencer's first line in the game is just him screaming while being swung around by Ultron Sigma, and then he barely says anything at all. Why is he here again?
Or in the original animated series, and that show was basically made to be a toy ad. But in all fairness, the OG Transformers did actually have some very solid writing, aiding by its great voice cast. This game… not so much
23:57 to add onto this, he also plays Nero in DMC and Ichigo Kurosaki in Bleach, two more scream heavy characters that he does an absolutely fantastic job in
12:44 It was at this point I realized who wrote the script for this game: Marvel writers with no knowledge of Capcom characters. Dante would *never* toss some random Racoon his babies Ebony and Ivory. He’d probably say “Hell no Trash Panda! The ladies stay with me.” and then proceed to shoot down several more drones like a boss
acedekk Right! To just quickly TL;DR the lore reason, his guns were built for him by a master gunsmith who was also a close friend of his. She designed Ebony and Ivory to never run out of ammo and to never break, which is super impressive! And yes, Dante did give Vergil *one* of his pistols so they could kill Arkham at the end of DMC 3. Besides that, he is very protective of his babies!
If anything Dante and Rocket should just butt heads with each other constantly. Maybe have a scene where Dante drops them somehow and Rocket sneakily takes em so he can try em out. Then Dante snatches them back, conflict is way more interesting than buddy-buddy crap.
I'm baffled at times with Capcom. OBVIOUSLY they care SO MUCH about Arthur (and Ghost and Goblins) that he gets representation for mvc3/umvc3 and even mvci. If he had that much clout in terms of company history, I don't understand why they wouldn't heavily consider getting a GnG remake in order.
@@Dzzy123 you mean a token old character so they can go: "look! We still remember our old characters!" Personally I'd be down if they remake gng in like the RE Engine as a side scroller or something.
@@ZRovas117 They did a reimagining of GnG during the PS2 era. I forget what the series was called. I'd like Capcom to make a new Power Stone. They have hinted at it in the past, and I was surprised that they didn't add a Power Stone character to MvCI when the plot had to do with acquiring stones.
If I remember correctly, the guy voicing Iron Man here also voice Iron Man in the "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" cartoon series in the years leading up to Disney's purchase of Marvel.
he was fantastic, it really sucks that they just Nolan North for that new Avengers game instead he is really bad. He is also just doing his Deadpool voice for Ironman which is really jarring let alone that he is to much of a goofball and over the top which again makes Ironman sound more like Deadpool.
Alan Joestar well I wondered if they were looking for a iron man voice actor. Hell! They could’ve gotten the one from Avengers earths mightiest heroes.
I think someone else put it best, everyone sounds like they were written by someone who never wrote a cross-over before. Hello Dante from Devil May Cry. Oh hey Captain America from Marvel's Captain America, have you seen Chris Redfield from Resident Evil?
Captain America: "Ah Dante. *The* Dante, from Devil May Cry. The videogame series! How are you? Dante: Hello Mr. Captain of America aka The First Avenger, I'm doing well thanks! *Awkward high five*
I actually feel the problems the opposite and would've thought it cool to see the characters get to know each other, but they seemed to have fast forward the story to a point where both the Marvel and Capcom cast are entirely knowledgeable of each other.
@@Shift_Salt Iron Man: oh my god is that Chun Li? The Chun Li? The world’s strongest woman in capcom’s most popular fighting game street fighter that’s been around since 1990? Ryu: you got that right Iron Man, The Armored Avenger aka Tony Stark of the Marvel super hero team The Avengers
And that's what's so ironic. Like Max said, had this come out 6-7 months later between Infinity War & Endgame and at around the same time Captain Marvel was coming out, this game would have been much more relevant. And maybe those 6-7 months would've given them a little more time to add on some more polish to the game.
@@Unknownigen Not to mention the staggering amount of bitching and knaiving from Disney side. Is like they wanted to make an excuse to stop doing MvC games. I don't really understand it. It's a beloved 25 year old franchise that surely has made fans from both sides be interested in one another, why shit on the franchise that has given one of the best selling fighting games of all time?
Daniel Martinez Gonzalez Daniel Martinez Gonzalez it especially pissed me off how Marvel was basically breathing down the devs necks even back in the MVC3 days. If I recall, they had to fight to use Shuma Gorath, Rocket Raccoon etc. because Marvel wasn’t using them or something which is still stupid to be against.
@@carlbloke8797 Yep. Marvel wasn't planning to use/didn't have the rights to some characters (Capcom wanted to add Juggernaut to MvC3, but Marvel said no cuz he was owned by Fox at the time, and they didn't wanna promote their competition). At least that problem wouldn't exist now, given that Marvel owns all their properties again
Money. They did it mainly for clout without trying to put in the effort to EARN the clout. Most of the games Marvel worked on and licensed their characters to before MvC:I were mobile games. They just commissioned it and hoped for the best and that’s why we got Hershey’s gameplay in a shit package.
@Strider Xanthos Yes. Dr. Cain created the Reploids by referring to X's design, and the biblical reference goes to show that in a way, Dr. Cain killed his home town Abel City due to all the damages caused by the Mavericks and Sigma, the first Reploid he created. If I'm right, the anime "The Day of Sigma" (and the game Maverick Hunter X) is the first time the city is ever referenced as Abel City, so it is a relatively recent addition to the lore. The city is pretty much ground zero of Sigma-virus created Mavericks, exactly because the Hunters operate there. (I'm a bit too intense about the lore :P)
@@BoosterGoose It's also a lesser known fact, but Dr. Cain is not a robot scientist. He is an archeologist. He basically fumbled his way into creating Reploids based off X's design.
I really feel like it would have been more interesting if the sigma virus infected Iron Mans suit (or even Jarvis) instead of Thor. Imagine how much more sense that would make as the Sigma Virus tends to infect robots/AI and with Tony still stuck in the suit it would have made the fight more dramatic.
This story feels like a bunch of Japanese writers trying to imitate an MCU movie. Why not have Marvel comic book writers write the plot for this if they're going for Avengers plus Capcom characters?
@Strider Xanthos Really? The awkward pauses, grunting, and characters nodding at each other is a common problem in games with Japanese writers (mostly cause it doesn't translate well to English without feeling off) The emphasis on Marvel might have been to ride the hype of the MCU, hence the infinity stones EDIT: 45:00 Max explains it
The wasted potential. The ugly as sin designs, the Marvel side just being every character without any unique or cool powers, just super strength and guns, the awful "must push brand recognition" name dropping dialogue, bringing back characters like Arthur and Spencer(my arm is my wife, so many jokes lol) while they dropped some of the main characters people love. It's actually incredible this was released like this. Whoever is in charge of what characters are allowed to be used in games at Marvel needs to be fired, they consistently choose all the most boring generic characters, even to this day, look at the Avengers game, the first DLC is the only Young Avenger without powers... Like, what?
The character designs were ok, but the lighting engine and semi-realism used in Infinite doesn't do any of the cast any favors (i.e. why Dante looks like he's on day 3 of a sleepless cocaine binge.)
9:55 that‘s because they chose Nolan North to voice Iron Man in the new Avengers game, which is bad because he was usually voicing Deadpool and funny enough, he also voiced Rocket Racoon in this game.
The 2 parts I liked was Ultimate Armor X getting the final attack on the final boss because (this was before Mega Man 11 and the revitalization of Mega Man) it was one of the coolest things that has happened for a Mega Man character so far and Dante being worthy of the soul stone because I thought it was a pretty cool way to incorporate the lore of DMC and Marvel.
They could not since Mark Gatha (X from X8, Command Mission and Maverick Hunter X) is retired and is a Vancouver VA, while this game was recorded on California (that's the same reason why Zero was recast from Lucas Gilberston to Johnny Yong Bosch)
So in terms of voices in this game: - I think Ultrons voice is pretty good. He kinda does the CRUSH KILL DESTROY thing that you'd think evil robots would do - Jedah has a really good voice but I think him trying to do the high pitched laugh doesn't work too much - Dante sounds worse than he does in this game. Its oddly closer to DMC3 Dante but it makes him kinda obnoxious. Not to mention he's top tier so you learn to hate hearing him - Chun-Li's voice isn't great and thats odd considering Ashley Burch is pretty good at what she says - Thanos has a real good voice. Sounds exactly what an evil space overlord would sound - Hearing Spencer makes me think he's gonna talk about Butt Stallion
The worst voice, in terms of gameplay, is Monster Hunter. She sounds like she's throwing up whenever you hit her. And unfortunately, everyone likes using her, so that's most of what you hear.
"I think when he's speaking, Mega Man X's voice sounds quite good. But in combat? He sounds a bit too much like Dan." "But in combat?" So he doesn't sound like X in the part of the game most people are going to play? Damn.
I'm still in disbelief that they bring back X's voice actor from Maverick Hunter X and X8. He became the best X in the series by far and did a great job at characterizing him. Hell, he is even in the mobile game. The direction in voice acting in this game just doesn't make any sense.
Never got why they had to put the Capcom characters as if they were from the same "dimension", with Marvel it makes sense but almost everyone from Capcom side is from a different place
I loved the idea of being able to play Ultron Sigma(and overpowered version) by choosing ultron and sigma and choosing an extra option to fuse them. I know that's not how they would do it even if they did but making the boss actually playable, and removing your assist in return would be interesting as a casual player
For me personally MVCI is just... So much wasted potential. The gameplay is amazing. The idea to unite Ultron and Sigma is genius! And yet here we are... Still (not anymore) waiting for Simon Blackquill...
@laz kar I think it was leaked a long time ago that Simon Blackquill was supposed to be a dlc character MVCI is pretty much dead now, and it's sad. I imagine Simon would play like a mix of swordplay and UMVC3 Phoenix Wright evidence/modes shenanigans with Taka thrown into his moveset Damn, that's a shame we won't get Simon... Edit: Oh, and imagine stunning Thanos or Dormammu with Simon's trademark "SILENCE!"...
@HorizonCrosser 128 Well, if you notice, the Marvel roster of the first games are almost everyone tv show characters, that's why it all started with X-men.
@@Protosilver97 Simon Blackquill is a recurring prosecutor from Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies. He's convicted for murder, yet he still prosecutes DD cases. Has a pet falcon called Taka. Starts up chained, but has a habit of breaking those during trials which scares living shit out of everyone (most of all, Judge). Smart, cunning, but honourable. A little cocky. Has a neat move when he spits Taka's feathers into his opponents and slicing them in half with iaijutsu, using, ahem... Invisible katana...
Simon can actually beat the shit out of someone though i think that if another character from phoenix wright was chosen aside from phoenix it would be miles, he's just too popular
i think one of the reasons this story sucked so much is because none of the capcom characters were important whatsoever. every time we see a capcom character theyre just there to be a marvel character's tag out, or to give a quip and then say nothing else of importance for the rest of the game. even ultron sigma is just ultron that happens to be infected with the sigma virus
10:00 one thing i say good about mvci is the voices for iron man and captain america. its the same va from the avengers: earths mightiest heroes cartoon which is considered the best avengers cartoon to be made to date on par with justice league from early 2000s.
I remember I was genuinely excited to see Jedah--one of my favorite Darkstalkers and all time Capcom characters--be a part of the MvCI roster. Then I also remembered Capcom resurrected him in MvCI.
I have to rant about this. Part of the reason why the game looks so bad is because they tried to make the characters look like they belonged in a live action movie or something, right? So why the hell is Arthur still a short cartoon character? Why is he part of the game's story? He is the most out of place character in this line up but he's still here! We've even had a normal human sized version Arthur back in Namco x Capcom, so there's precedence for him to look like a normal human being. There is... so much that upsets me about this game from a design standpoint and I think this is one of the more baffling examples of it.
You know I feel like an idea if they were actually going to add the X-Men into this story, and would only have certain characters from them would be this: Ultron Sigma was able to get control of the Sentinels to reprogram and take care of the threats by making the bots carriers of the virus, thus doubling as a threat to the X-Men and a plan to infect them and the other universes of the Capcom lore. So since Ultron Sigma has the Reality Stone and Space Stone, he could send them to other universes to infect and then bring them back to him as servants so we could have other characters. Maybe that's just crackpot, but it would definitely give a reason to bring in the X-Men and other Capcom characters as either potential cameos or characters to use... But instead we got this dissapointment. Sigh...
16:53 THAT. That right there is the problem with these cutscenes. Cap gets Chris's attention, he turns to look, and there's, like, two or three seconds of Chris just *standing there* doing nothing until the robot shows up and they do the "I'll take that as a yes" gag. Every goddamn cutscene in this story is filled with these long, awkward pauses that make it feel like every character forgot their lines and missed their cues. You can practically see the stage director frantically gesturing for the robot to jump in already. The only reason I can think of that it's like this is that they had to pad it out for time, which is especially stupid since the whole thing, as Max pointed out, feels like you missed the start of it.
they wanted to make sure we knew the characters names lol, every sentence is "Oh Hey Dante, Hey Rocket, Wassup Captain America, Not much Thor" like Jeeeeez
This is a great video! Laughed a lot at your commentary and gameplay. That whole "do-do-do" while prone was HiLaRiOuS 😂😂😂 Please do more of these 💯💯💯 Glad you and your family/friends are doing good in these times. God bless ✝️
Dont forget about all the nodding. If hawkeye and captain were right next to each other then why did they have to use their earpieces and announce themselves?
31:13 - 33:37 Chun-Li is in two different places at the same time. She seems to be replacing Captain Marvel’s position and the devs must’ve forgotten that she’s been standing behind Iron Man this whole time. This is especially evident in 33:20 - 33:27.
I agree that scream lords are fun, part of why I play Cooler in Dragonball FighterZ is BECAUSE he’s just yelling so hard. Especially when he uses his beam and just goes “YEEOOOWWWWWW”
This game was made by capcom. The company that put out games like monster hunter world, Resident evil 2 remake. This is a game from a AAA company. Just...lordy
@@staticshock4239 Who knows. All I know is this is not a creative driven product. Power Rangers battle for the grid looks better than this. It's so ugly and awkward.
This was the time when Capcom didn't know what the hell they were doing with their properties anymore. MegaMan was dead in año iterations, Tekken was doing bad ever since tag, Residente Evil was going downhill without brakes and the only doing kind of good was Monster Hunter Generations wich was a 3ds Game. World and RE7 was the start of them getting their shit together.
Cable Except you can find out basically the whole story- Matt McMuscles did a Wha Happun on it (Where Max actually showed up) that explains that this game was “Cheap as shit” and Marvel was an absolute nightmare to work with.
I got this game after my buddy convinced me to give the MCU a try. I ended up loving the MCU and just wanted a marvel game to play...and wow....the characters looked like clay people, clay fighter infinite.
35:07 It feels like this scene was meant to happen *before* you fight, with Thor cutting in after the fight ends. Even more ways this game feels like it was just thrown out unfinished and left to die.
Seems like the moment of Rocket taking Dante's Guns wouldn't have been as bad if we saw him leap towards some drones and you see him do his own "Stylish shooting" to take them down before tossing the guns back to Dante. Instead, it is all this build up just to see the raccoon shoot upwards and for all we know, he is missing every shot.
