Hey ya'll. This is Brian, "the local area expert". I had so much fun with Matt and the team. The one on one time was a dream come true for a long-time viewer like me. I almost jumped out of my seat when I first saw the Morvair and Wrecker driving right next to me on the slabs. Thanks for letting me tag along. I hope to make it out to your shop and say hello again, sometime.

I love the Wrecker. He started with a tape measure and some steel stock. Welded on a lot of found objects, and stuff made from more steel stock. And here we are. Not bad for a man with no idea what he was doing.

This has to be in the top 5 videos ever. Beautiful scenery. Teamwork that rivals the gold nugget recovery. A few observations; 1. Caitlin and Collin are smart, attentive and focused. They take direction well. 2. The wrecker is a formidable machine. I can't think of a tougher or more nimble civilian vehicle. 3. Matt is a natural leader. I loved how he left it to the youngins and guided them through the obstacles as a great leader does. Patiently giving clear instructions. Never losing his attention to how he approaches them in his requests. Just fantastic teamwork in a situation that was rife with opportunities for it all to go south. Lastly, the wrecker eating up the soup bowl was epic. Made it look easy. What a machine. A great way to spend an hour. Thanks again for top notch content.

Back in 06, I rolled my XJ 2-1/4 times on the Rubicon Trail. I remember thinking "How the hell am I gonna get this out of here? There are no tow trucks". Luckily we got it running and I finished the trail and drove it home 500 miles with no hood and no glass. I only had a plexiglass windshield that we rigged up. Greatest trip ever.

I love seeing Katelynn use her skill from competitive rock crawling and apply it to the work she is doing with MORR. What she did here on the Rubicon, in a complicated beast of a machine, doing a very difficult task, for several hours, shows that she is a huge asset for the team. Plus...this young woman just SPARKLES!! Her cheerful presence and clever retorts (about using the rear-steer for example) is great fun for us watching the videos. I'm always glad when she's on the next video.

Matt and crew I am a bit of off roader also because I am in charge of 82 people that run a search and rescue here in the Tampa area for the entire state of Florida. I have to fight the sand all the time because of the beaches here BUT no rocks per say. All that being said of all the videos you have done over the years I would have to say this was the most professional and dangerous rescue you have done to date. With all the cameras and help you had it was an ineradicable video and recovery. You are right that the video is 50 minuets but the actual rescue took hours (been there and done that more than one time over 25 years) Tell the crew great job and you owe them all new shirts and the cost of laundry for all the work the did. As for the tail gate if it were mine I would be proud to keep it as is and I would have a magnetic sign made that I would post on the bent gate that would say something like "I took on the RUBICON TRAIL and all I got was this tail gate) . I would be proud to have made it as far as he did and would want the world to know that at least I tried. It should be something he should be proud of. Again tell the crew what a great job they did as well as all the volunteers that pitched in to make this happen. This is going to be a hard video to top all other recoveries will look tame if anyone has seen this one first. Everyone stay safe and thank you for all the work you put out there

Colby had his dreams come true, driving the Morrvair, on the Rubicon Trail which was another dream come true. He's so happy his ankle only hurts when he breaths. Matt the master of ppl off road recovery did it again on the most visible Trail in the western U.S. The wrecker he designed and built was on the Rubicon Trail doing a job no one else wanted. The total visibility of this recovery is probably get more views than any other recovery. The whole video shows the greatness of him and the wrecker. Colin's role in this recovery was beyond belief, he kept the truck right side up and saved the sides of the truck with his driving and braking. Katlin learned how to drive the wrecker on the job. With Matt's guidance she was able to put the wrecker in the safest spots giving Colin a better chance of backing that truck off the trail . All of the three California jobs I am aware of have shown Matt, the wrecker, and his team successfully recover each vehicle. That's 100% / perfect for out of state recoveries. And don't forget New Mexico...

The Rubicon has changed so much over the years, back in the 70s when I first ran it, the only rigs that could make it were Jeeps, old Scouts, early Broncos, FJ40s and Nissan Patrols or the like. The passage between trees and boulders were so tight no wider vehicle could even get started on the trail. I went over the trail many times in the 70s with an FJ40 with 1100 15 Tru tracks by Armstrong, and no lockers or lift kits, only had very basic rock sliders and we learned to shield our tail lights with armor. Many rigs took heavy damage, that was common, altho I was lucky(?) with the Toyota. BTW stock 6 cylinder with only a "Man A Fre" kit on it. THere was no "Soup Bowl". The main thing I remember was the "Big Sluice" and the "Little Sluice" and the dreaded Cadilac Hill going out. Fun times.

Military Rough Terrain Light/Medium/Heavy Instruction Never put any limb inside the steering wheel. On a fire suppression mission at Lake Isabella in the 80's Two driver soldiers came up to command within 10 minutes of each other. One with a broken and a dislocated thumb, the other with a dislocated wrist. One held on to the steering wheel like a snake wrapping around a vine and incurred the fore mentioned thumb injuries. The other thought it would be wise to pull the steering wheel from the inside of the wheel (like so many people do, for absolutely no mechanical advantage what-so-ever) and had to be sent back for medical attention. Never put your limbs inside a steering wheel. Thoroughly enjoyed watching this almost hour video. Not sure how much more you could have cut.

It depends on which trim level he has, if it's a Rubicon trim then it should handle the Rubicon stock. The Rubicon is a serious trail but there's also bypasses around most of the large obstacles, I've read that 33s and 3" lift will get you through. Of course, you might get some trail pinstripes, which he might not want on his new truck.

I am Northern California born and raised. I’ve done the Rubicon Trail 2 times with friends. I have since moved to the Midwest 8 years ago and I can not express to you just how much I miss the Lake Tahoe/Sierra region. Absolutely breath taking beauty. Thank you for this amazing video. It allowed me to relive some of my younger days and will hold me over until I can get back again. Great teamwork on full display!

My husband and I are stuck in Yuma with 110° temperature this summer. Normally we would be in Utah or Colorado. We watch you all the time. You are the best part of our days.

Most people are happy if their vehicle makes it thru the Rubicon trail. The wrecker did it towing another vehicle. That's incredible. I know was only part of the trail but still crazy

I was at Four Corners Monument 2 weeks ago, heading toward my brother’s place in Provo. I almost detoured to Hurricane because Tank (my ‘08 Commander) wants his picture taken with the Banana. Kinda wish we had, but my bro’s shower was calling to me! Next we’re in the neighborhood, though, we’ll stop in!
