I have never seen a female tarantula chase the male (not that I've seen a lot of tarantula pairings, but you know... I watch the videos). She was ready and he was all, I gotta wait 3 days before I call her.

For some reason it felt like the Male knew he was going to be eaten and kept avoiding her, if you noticed he made sure to stay the hell away from the female since the first contact. I'm not knowledgeable about spiders but it just seemed like it throughout the video.

My anxiety was at a 10/10 watchin' this. For several reasons

It was clear from the males perspective that she was going to kill him and you just left him. Poor bloke.

I think when he approached he immediately tried to determine if she was interested, and she gave an aware but negative signal, so he gave her space and continued to show his interest and let her (with her limited vision) figure out what he was all about. It seems like males can sense how likely they are to be eaten and make retreats or only short attempts. That shout out to exotics lair was great. xD When introducing him a second time, she was freshly agitated. Many species of spider communicate with pheromones to indicate their readiness for a partner, maybe he could sense her aggressive output and decided to avoid her area. In the future perhaps try what others seem to do and do short introductions, and if they are avoiding each other, try again another day. Tarantulas have bad days and docile days, after all. Especially with how slow growing they can be and how short the male lives after reaching sexual maturity.

I'm new to this channel, but I appreciate how genuine it is. Every pet owner makes mistakes, and that includes those of exotic pets. Unfortunately it seems (I don't know a lot about tarantulas yet) that this was one of those tricky situations that just ended up being problematic. I can understand and sympathize for sure.

The male obviously avoiding and moving away from the female because he knew he was going to be a meal, not a mate.

Please dont take this the wrong way. I love you and your channel. but this seems like it was pretty poorly executed. And then to lock the male in over-night after such a shaky start, a bit confounding. Maybe the video became more important than the animal. Observing animals requires extreme patience, (silence is also good) as Im sure you know. The way you prodded him into this strange enclosure (of a monstrous female) it has never seen, this animal that had spent its entire life in a few inches of its own dirt and web,, was now locked in this box. He went from the plastic to bin to _direction_ "No, go this way, -What are you doing? No' , "You should be down here" etc. while being poked.

I think the enclosure might have been too small, I think that when the male was outside of the enclosure he felt comfortable enough to attempt to mate but once inside the enclosure he just couldn't get into a good position to read her motives or to feel safe enough to try & mate with her, there's just not enough room in there for the male to feel safe enough to make his escape once the mating is complete, in the time lapse you can see that they were really trying but I think eventually the female just gave up in frustration & decided to devour him instead.

Loved all the drumming. He seemed scared of her bc kept going away from her. Hopefully, the pairing was successful since she ate him. Good nutrition for female and will make a fatter egg sac. I hate when the male gets eaten, but like you said it’s better than them being in a tank slowly wasting away. Great video as always!!
