I have heard so many stories similar to this one and experienced it first hand when my older cousin was in a coma for a week. He had been in a car accident involving five cars all due to a drunk driver in the freeway. Out of eight people two survived. My cousin in a coma. The other couldn’t be left alone because of his trauma he would start screaming. The doctors constantly told my uncle to cut life support on my cousin because he wasn’t going to wake up, that it was better to donate his organs to someone who needs them. My uncle asked the doctor for more time. And then a nurse came and told my uncle not to leave my cousin alone with this doctor, to always have someone stay with him. My cousin woke up in a week exactly after the accident. He’s not the same. But he’s alive! As much as I love the idea of being able to help someone after death, I wouldn’t put “Donor” my license ever. I just made my wishes known to my family and encourage them to do the same.

DO NOT FILL OUT ORGAN DONOR STUFF!!! if you wish to donate your organs when you die, tell your family and have it in your will ONLY! because of the shortage of organs, if anyone in the medical field sees you are a donor, they will not help you! stay safe out there

That doesn't make any sense. For that work, you're assuming all, or an overwhelming majority somehow lack very basic human morality and empathy to an insane degree. And the fact EMTs will not have access to that information; they don't even know your blood type.

My mother was nursing supervisor of her whole hospital. She used to tell me stories of the organ donating team (I forget their official name) absolutely hounding and harassing families in grief about harvesting the organs of the patients who were still very much alive. Numerous times my mom was called to the floor to handle disputes between them and the patients family because of how heartlessly they would harass families just trying to come to terms with loss. My mother hated the organ team because of their vulture like behavior. She told me never to sign that little line on the back of my license authorizing organ donation.

There are laws in some states (like Florida) where if an immediate family member, i.e., father, mother, (minors or unmarried) husbands, wives object to organ donation even though the patient is a registered donor, they have to honor the objection. That's when hospital administrators and physicians will talk to the objecting family members for some kind of conclusion.

Maybe because the hospital itself decided to disclose private and confidential information to people that should never have known If a family member is unconscious and unable to verify that he or she wants to donate parts of their body then another family member such as a mother or a father do have a right to decide whether they donate or not- NOT a doctor and most certainly not some stupid third party

My sister in laws friend has a daughter. Her daughter is around 8, I think? The daughter had to go in and get her tonsils removed. They were planning on this anyway as she was having infections. She gets sick and they decide ok, her tonsils have to go. They sign a waiver, pay extra for bubble gum flavored laughing gas, etc. Surgery takes longer than normal. Then the doc comes out and says that they had to air lift their daughter to a specialty facility because instead of laughing gas they gave her too much fentanyl and she had to be resuscitated 3 times and she just kept overdosing. The daughter is now fine. But as soon as they got to the other hospital, the hospitals legal team met with the parents to talk about suing the hospital. The hospital tried settling for 100k, but the lawyers said absolutely not. It's still ongoing as this happened, maybe 2 months ago, but still holy shit

I pray for him every morning and sometimes I pray for him at night to because I do fall asleep early in fact I’m like a little child who just falls asleep early and I wake up early too. That’s when I pray for him and everyone who is ill. The older I get the longer my list gets. The saddest thing about my list is how many younger people are these days. To the people saying that if they know you are an organ donor they won't try as hard to save you I've actually looked into this and have taken several medical classes they have several codes of conduct that they must follow and are obligated to try everything they can to the best of their abilities within their scope of practice to save your life or they can get sued. Personally I don't think the first things anybody would think of when saving a life is whether or not they are an organ donor. There job is to save people's life not harvest organ. They would be wasting so much time they have to save your life to find your license, see if you are a donor and decide they don't want to do their job correctly and risk getting sued, for a POTENTIAL oragn to harvest. But I will not deny the corruptness in the medical field.
