Looks like I'm your 12th sub. I fish the Ohio also bout 25 to 30 mile south of Cincinnati. Going into this year my lb flat was 31 lb and my blue is 50. I've broke my flat bp twice this year, I caught a 36 lb about 3 weks ago, this morning I caught a 41lb. If I'm not fishing the Ohio I like to watch people who also fish it. Keep on keeping on. 👍👍👍

It's good to know that catching the big ones can be had on our Ohio side of the river whereby I wish for you all the very best.. I am an old man nearing 80 years of age but do have fond memories of catching large catfish in our very own Ohio River!
I live near Akron and used to fish the River near Mountaineer Casino when I was young but that's been 30 years ago and I haven't fished it since, but next month we're camping a week at Winton Woods in Cinci and oh man, if you could recommend a general area with decent bank access & shovelhead potential for me and the wife I'd be grateful. My knees are replaced and my back is fused so I can't go too nuts but we'll get it done if you point me the right direction ✌🏻 Thanks!
Pretty cool to fish the river and have 10K people come along to watch you do it. We fish up around Racine and Pomeroy, love to hit the river when we can.
Born and raised around the Ohio. Fished it for more than 60 years. I honestly think that I've never not caught something (LOL, read: I've always caught something). In fact, I feel spoiled by the Ohio because when I go somewhere else I expect similar results.
For the person who asked whether he was fishing in Ohio or Kentucky, I would say that that far out in the center of the river, the current was flowing to the right which, to me, would mean that he is fishing on the Ohio side..
I'm next.im in California and love catfishing. Unfortunately we have no decent rivers here. I just caught this video and decided to subscribe. Most other videos have annoying background music. I give you the music Oscar for yours. Just the river singing. Awesome! NOT joking or kidding.
Depending where you are, the Sacramento River and Delta grow some big Channel’s as well as the Feather river and down South the Colorado River and the irrigation channels that run off it.
I'm familiar with them. Especially the Imperial Valley/Colorado River area. Unfortunately, I'm In the middle of these areas, 300 miles in each direction. And with droughts, dams and population/farming withdrawals, none of these are any longer natural rivers like the eastern and Midwest ones. I can get a quick catfish fix from the California aqueduct, but to compare that with an Ohio or Missouri river?? Gimme a break. River. "I know the Ohio River... and the Colorado River at Yuma is no Ohio River" I HAVE floated the Mississippi.

I typically don’t fish with many other people; nothing against making new buddies but my work schedule is atypical and when I can go is on short notice and usually during the week. If you see me in passing or on the river though stop and say hey. Would love to talk fishing!
Both are common in the Ohio. I. This video I actually catch a channel. I tend to pick up flatheads one cut bait while chasing blues. When targeting flatheads I prefer live bait.
Honestly, I’ve never had this question lol I typically don’t fish with people I don’t know personally unless I meet someone on the bank and we are fishing the same general area. I’m by no means a guide, just a normal dude who likes to catch a few fish when I can. Nonetheless I appreciate you watching, and if you ever see me give me a shout!
This was over a 2hr period; the edits just lined up pretty well lol On this trip I packed frozen skipjack but was able to catch fresh Shad and Mooneye when I got there. I used fresh bait and then transitioned to frozen. Fish were caught on all three baits
In regards to bait preference, I try to start with what’s present most. If the skips are in I’ll throw skipjack. If Shad are in thick I’ll throw Shad first… and so forth
Back in my day, I'd seine crawdads, take a nice sized one, peel away a couple it's tail protective shell segments, place the whole crawdad on a circle hook, toss it out very early in the morning before sunrise or late in the evening after sunset, both times in shallows around tree roots and hang on for a nice shovelhead cat. My best was a 53 lb near Malta, Ohio on the Muskingham River. I did have very good luck with the same on the Ohio River, Ohio side just upriver from Maysville, Kentucky.. Also, globs of nighcrawlers on a hook worked very nicely on all types of cats!
Appreciate the comment, but I was actually using circle hooks on this fishing trip which often set themselves or require reeling down on the fish before setting. There’s a bunch of video on RU-vid about fishing with circle hooks if you aren’t familiar. Thanks again!
