Its odd, he kept paying it back in installments. So on the surface its Ohtani's account, not Ippeis, without Ohtani's name, theres no way a bookie would allow Ippei to amass over $4.5M in debt. Its also odd that Ohtani would just pay directly and not go through an accountant or intermediary, or someone else for the proper legal advice on how to handel it. Which makes Ohtani complicit in the gambling because hes funding it through Ippei, ontop of whatever California laws they violated. People can view Ippei as a proxy for Ohtani's gambling, sure thats how Bowyer imagined it. It really comes off messy even if Ohtani is innocent.

Personally, from all the videos back then Ippei is more than an interpreter/translator he is akin more to like a personal manager. 1. He manages Ohtani's schedule and stuff specially if Japanese media asks for interview. 2. Helps ohtani in doing additonal scouting reports. 3. Ippei also drives Ohtani around. Afaik Shohei doesnt event have a license. Then i think if i factor in a video by BDE, in which he said that when ohtani was in japan, he would give his salary to his mother to have her manage his expenses and she would just give him an allowance to go by. I think this may also be the case here but on a bigger scale.

Its simple, Mizuhara made some bets and got into debt to the tune of $4.5m. Mizuhara needed to come up with the money or he was going to start losing fingers and toes, decided to ask his buddy Ohtani for help. Ohtani, being a long time friends, said he'd help him out but would need to stop/get help. Once it all came out and the lawyers told Mizuhara/Ohtani that Ohtani is going to be in a lot of trouble, Mizuhara was told he's going to need to take the fall to save Ohtani; and Ohtani would take care of him. - The Tuesday story is the truth. The Wednesday story is them protecting Ohtani so he doesn't get "Pete Rose"'ed by MLB.

Ohtani is no different than Shoeless Joe Jackson and the Black Sox although great players all were banned for life! This doesn't look could for Ohtani because after reading the statements on all sides it is most simply one of two things: 1.Ohtani gave money to cover his interpreter debts (but is still in trouble as he can't be associated with betting) or 2. Ohtani gave away money to cover the interpreter debts which he knew was illegal betting due to California's laws. If number 2 is true the question is did he know before his interpreter came to him saying he was in debt or after. Either way a bad situation. This mainly is all proven because Ohtani directly wired money to an associate of this illegal bet placer.
