Hey man I've got a 22 SP and this is my first Grom. How often do you suggest changing the oil? Also I've heard the first oil change, the filter doesn't need to be changed. Lots of conflicting info out there. Thanks!
@egoboost9952
@egoboost9952 3 года назад
I would think about 3k miles every oil change but I’ve recently been hearing a lot about bikes running hotter so maybe every 2k or so to be safe. Your first oil change you have to change the oil and filter and that needs to be around 500 miles. There’s metal in the oil and around the filter and you wanna get as much of that out as you can. You’ll literally see little metal hairs on the filter if you look closely
@egoboost9952
@egoboost9952 3 года назад
They may have been referring to the oil screen which I still have yet to clean because this is the first year Grom that has a filter. The rest only rely on the screen. This has an actual filter and a screen

@@egoboost9952 Gotcha thanks man. This is a very good video. I checked the sight glass for my oil (still on break in at 350 miles) and it was below the lower line. can you wash the filter and reuse it?
@egoboost9952
@egoboost9952 Год назад
No definitely not, always replace them. If you have to you could probably reuse it for an extra cycle but only if your unable to get a new filter. I’ve done that with filters before but if you try washing them out you’ll just end up contaminating the filter and the oil. Oem is pretty readily available and cheap and there’s a few hi flows out there that people like as well. Personally I always stick with oem though

Doing my first oil change should I use full synthetic or non
@egoboost9952
@egoboost9952 2 года назад
Use non synthetic at least for your first few oil changes. I always use full synthetic on my cars engines but honestly for these little ones you may be better off sticking with good non synthetic. I always use the ProHobda GN4 4 stroke 10w 40 or 10w 30. But if you wanna go full synthetic I would say do at least 3-5 oil changes at the and put a few thousand miles on it before switching over. I couldn’t tell you why that’s the way to do it but I’ve heard that from a few different people and shops as well as the dealer I get my parts from and my bike from
@MAYNARD927
@MAYNARD927 Год назад
@@egoboost9952 Full synthetic oil can cause an engine to not break in properly because it's so "slippery", and you don't get enough friction on the rings and bearings and they will glaze causing it to burn oil.
@SnwBlndV

I rode easy the first 20 miles, then beat it to redline ever gear ever after. I changed oil first at 200 miles and it was very dirty. Took filter out and it looked good so reused. Changed again at 700 miles so 500 mile oci and oil looked gold and almost new. Still original filter, about 1200 miles on it now.
@egoboost9952
@egoboost9952 3 года назад
I beat this little bike up more than I should have during the break in period if I’m being honest 😅 kind of wish I didn’t but so far so good. I would definitely swap that filter out soon though because there’s metal shavings in there from the break in and you want that out asap

@@egoboost9952 the thing is, CBR150R and other variants uses liquid cooled engines. It has counter balance snaps and destroy the engine because of the scum build up in the oil. I think Honda should revise those engines.

first if all your first oil change should come about after 10 hours and when you change the oil if you can blow air through the place you add oil and while it drains actually if you have the wits and tools you should tear down the motor till you can wipe down the very bottom of the inside of the motor . I have lost a many of small engines due to casting sand.another thing you can try is to tilt the unit toward the oil change bolt and hold it there for a while. hopefully you can get rid of all casting sand. then after your first oil change go about every 20-25 hours between oil changes
@egoboost9952
@egoboost9952 2 года назад
I would definitely suggest trying to maybe tilt it or whatever you can do to get everything out but I wouldn’t go so far as to take it apart and wipe it all down. I just feel like it could do more harm than good, I just stay on top of it and do my first 2 oil changes 500 miles apart

Nope with your first one I would do exactly what I did in this video. Just make sure it’s around 500 - 600 miles or so maybe a little more.
