Helpful video. I just finished installing the same can on my wife's 2016 Tucson. Had to make a bracket and replaced the PCV, too. Like you, I picked up some 3/8" fuel line at AutoZone-much better than what came with the can. These things are a must for GDI motors.
Did mine today, actually have the same kit as yours. Junked that line it came with, and used better stuff. Also those clamps that came with my kit were terrible, also replaced those with better clamps.
Hi Desmond, great video. I recently bought a 2018 Sonata myself (just the SE/GL though) I've been thinking of getting a catch can once what's left of my warranty runs out. I was wondering if you've ever used Valve Cleaner (CRC or Seafoam I think are the main brands for it. Of course I did all my research on GDI engines after I bought the car so here I am trying to get up to speed on all the new maintenance required. Been binging all your Sonata videos, love the content.
You should definitely get one before the warranty runs out! I've caught a lot of crud in it! You can always take it off before you take it into the dealership. And yes, I've used CRC but not sea foam yet. Thanks for watching, I need to make more videos, so much stuff has been going on, but Im ready to put out more!
@@DesmondCrusoe Honestly I think a CRC demonstration would be great. I've spent hours on Sonata forms looking for a guide on how it's done but nobody else seems to have one or been able to find one. Cheers
@@Mintaculus put a hose through the intake. Seal intake with hose inside. Shoot cleaner while increasing throttle (will need a helper obviously) done. Now you can get fancy and hook up to the fuel rail and do it properly but that's a bit more $$$$. I just did my first carbon cleaning at 20k with seafoam. CRC will be the next cleaning at 40k when the deposits are known to really start building.
Just ordered one for my 2015 2.4 sonata. I've done 2 CRC valve cleanings at this point , and want to do what I can to keep those valves as clean as possible.
Hey there. I got a catch can the other day and was thinking of this video. I got the copper scrubbers like you do but my wife also picked up steel versions as well. Was there any benefit for the copper or would they about work the same? Thanks!
It's more for to prevent build up. Mines has been catching a lot of fluid that would normally be sent back through the system. Even for a cheap can, it has been doing a good job!
Thanks also you think I need to change my spark plugs I bought this car a 2019 sonata 2.4l with 22k on it and it seems to have a slight miss at idle. This car was a fleet vehicle so I changed my oil to the new island gf-6 oil and fresh air filter. Think I should change my spark plugs? And service the trans while I'm at it?
@@hondacivicacura The only thing I was able to do as far the idle is concerned is change out the spark plugs...but as I researched that idle is normal operation of the car...somebsay the software upgrade is the root cause so I'm learning to live with it. The transmission fluid has been changed and it was dark for the short time it was in use so I feel better about that and it seems to shift better to me as a result. I used RedLine D6 ATF transmission oil I stayed away from what seems to be the Valvoline universal type since I've used that in the past and it wasn't a long term oil in my opinion.
