2010 camry here. 300k miles. I'm told oil can go to 5-6k but I usually change after 3k. K&N oil filter. I rarely get on it enough to hit the passing gear. 5mph over spead limit. Never punched it off the line. Never had to add oil between changes. I'm old school Chevy. But the camry is a beast economical car. 300k and the only thing I've changed is tires, pads, plugs and oil.
NY does a wonder on cars. They don't last long before they're all rusted out. Not only do our taxes suck, but we have to replace cars 3X more often than the southern states.
@@beardedgarage nah man it’s the greatest product you’ll ever see. It’ll last years through the toughest snowiest salt roads you could imagine. Only needs to be sprayed on once too.
The housing is not plastic... The oil filter housing cap (usually referred to as the oil filter cap) IS plastic the other part of the housing is still attached to the engine and it is metal (the base of the housing. The torque specs are... Oil filter cap = 18 ft.lbs. Oil filter cap drainbolt = 9 or 10 ft.lbs. If you simply install both parts using the ⅜ inch ratchet & extension in the drainbolt that's what causes the drainbolt and oil filter cap to come off together. The oil filter cap should be twice as tight as the oil filter cap drainbolt. To get an accurate reading on the dip-stick it should be checked at operating temperature which can be done next time the car is driven. It should not be overfilled.
Why remove the oil cap until your ready to fill it Anything at all falls down in there you’re fucked Never leave shit or a spark plug uncovered unless your putting it directly back on Shit does and can happen
I tried taking off filter housing the cartridge type but whoever did it last time over tightened the hell out of it. I may have stripped the flutes . I certainly stripped the extension hole in my cap style wrench . It has 172 K miles . 11 Camry LE 2.5 L I’m beat . I may have to remove the oil pan getting more space then using some other type of wrench . Maybe a chain wrench . Any ideas?
I have 3-4 different wrenches, for increased levels of PITA-ness when doing an oil change. The rubber strap ones which I rarely use anymore, the metal cap style ones, an old school metal filter wrench with serrated teeth and when all else fails, a hammer and a screw driver for banging through the filter and turning the screwdriver like a handle. The problem in the Camry is that it’s the filter housing on the outside and it’s plastic, and I’m not sure a screwdriver would go through it or just crack it….but it’s gotta come out, and if you destroy it, it’s only $25 or so.
@@beardedgarage yes I may have to destroy it . And where do I buy one for $25 ? Toyota dealership or somewhere online like eBay or Amazon? I’ve found what looks like an adapter ( which looks like the cartridge housing) at OReillys. But it’s by Dorman and metal . It says for Toyota vehicles.. it also has like two metal screens cylinders in this kit
