I trick I use when removing the oil filter is use a zip lock baggie. Cover the filter inside the baggie so when you remove it the oil drips inside it.

That's a good idea!

What a good idea, I never would have thought of that. I'll try that on my next oil change. Thanks!

After 50 years of tinkering with cars (25 years in the car business) my friends assume I'm some sort of petroleum expert. When asked what oil I use the answer is always "whatever is on sale at the local auto parts store." I spend the money on a quality filter.

My first 5.0 oil change, I did not drain the front sump (didn’t even notice it), and wondered why I was showing full at 1 quart left over. As an aside, it showed over full from the previous owner/shop. Now I know better. My preference, is to do a “clear flood mode” before actually starting the engine. (Works for most of my vehicles), it builds pressure faster and safer imo.

That's where the extra bracing was placed on vert. OCD tip: pre-fill/partial-fill the filter to get pressure quicker. PS- recommend Lucas power steering fluid first for any steering noise/issue.

I worked in the oil change business for 12 years, so I know a bit about it. 😉 Use Valvoline synthetic oils and fluids in all of my vehicles. Mustang gets changed once a year, lucky if I put 4,000 miles on it. Living in the rust belt of the USA that car is parked in the winter. The truck gets changed once a year, put 4-5000 a year. I don't have the luxury of a lift so I have to jack the Mustang up to do anything underneath it.

Helpful hint about the drain plugs. In 91, they changed. So the drain plugs in early 91 are different than the plugs in later 91's. I found out the hard way.😂 life is funny that way.

Learned how to change my oil from a guy who was a shop manager but also handy. He recommended when the oil was drained to start the car and turn it off immediately to get any last oil out.

I always partially fill my filter with some oil so it builds pressure faster. You obviously cannot fill it all the way or it spillls out when installing but you get oil pressure faster.

Hey Gary thanks for continuing putting out great fox videos! Awesome 👌 👏 👍 🍺. Are u still running the stock steel drive shaft on your 91 vert? Or u running a aluminum one? I'm having issues with rubbing and clearance issues with a aftermarket aluminum one. Not sure if it's my old square boxy Flowmaster muffs or parking brake cables above or the flanges where the h pipe and muffs connect? U had any experience with this. Thanks again buddy! Your vert looks great 👍 man! #vertgang 😎
@KASLCustoms
@KASLCustoms Месяц назад
Thanks buddy! I am still running the stock drive shaft in both cars. You might have the main cable from the brake handle that T's off to each side rubbing on the drive shaft. I just had to trim one up the other day on the Average fox as it was rubbing on the driveshaft

used to do my ownoil changed on the fox but it was always with 1979-1995 MUSTANG 5.0 MOTORCRAFT OIL FILTER FL 1A love too see that oil filter on the car. guess your using the same 1 without watching the rest. so your fox is it wild stawberry? i used to fill the oil filter with oil too is that better?
@KASLCustoms
@KASLCustoms Месяц назад
Yes wild strawberry. I don't fill the filter because I don't like spilling. If it was a vertical mount then I probably would

Gary : why not fill the oil filter with fresh oil , before installation ?
@KASLCustoms
@KASLCustoms Месяц назад
The only vehicles I ever do that on are ones that have a vertically mounted oil filter. Its very hard to do that and not spill oil all over the place on a SBF

I noticed you said "My '91 convertible", not "My Mom's '91 convertible." Hmm. Also, you didn't really mention anything about oil change intervals. I do mine every 5,000 on the 5,000. 50,000, 55,000, 60,000 and so on. It's a summer time toy so cold weather driving doesn't enter into it. What are your thoughts?
