Oil in the Spark Plug Well of my Porsche Cayenne

My Cayenne was experiencing severe loss of power and misfiring after about 15 minutes of driving. There was Misfire code for each cylinder and the Dealership believed it was a result of a bad ECM (engine computer module) which would cost $4000 to replace and program.
I figured I do my own work and I was actually relived to find oil in the spark plug wells and Im hoping this is the cause of my engine problems.
Now I need to remove the valve covers and replace the gaskets.

Don't forget to check the fuse it can trip to protect engine when multiple issues with coils and sparks

Serhan, the bank1 plugs(1/2/3) are likely soaked in oil, mainly due to the torque strut E12 bolts have slowly "backed-out" as the vibrating torque strut may have loosened bracket torque over time. The bracket is what keeps the 1/2/3 plug gaskets tight and free of oil.

valve cover gaskets. had the same problem . not hard to do just a couple bolts that are a pain in the ass to get out near the fire wall. you will also need some gasket gew to go with your new gaskets. i recommend watching a few videos on it on you tube. good luck

my 2004 is misfiring the same way. Had 6 codes and showed misfire in cyl. 2 and 5. Pulled the coil packs on 2 and 5 and they were dripping with oil and the plug cavities have puddles of oil in them. Soaked up all the oil and cleaned out the holes with brake cleaner and air hose, cleaned oil off ends of coil packs and switched 3 with 2 and 6 with 5(6 had oil in it too so cleaned it) I have put 300+ miles on it and the check engine light has not come back on yet. I still have a misfire when I am in heavy acceleration and probably need to change plugs and perhaps the oil soaked coil packs but I'm hoping it throws some codes so I can see if its back in the 2 and 5 or where I moved the oil soaked coils over to 3 and 6. I did re-torque the valve cover bolts but need to replace the valve cover gaskets and coil seals to stop the oil from flooding into the holes.

your valve covers, do not just put spark plugs in the car, the same thing will happen again and you will blow your engine. you have to do your valve covers, seals and gaskets that will stop the leak.

I know your problem! I’m in the process of changing my high pressure fuel pump. Took out the pump and went to clean the plastic piece in camshaft adapter that goes on the high pressure fuel pump and the plastic crumbled. Didn’t know what the piece looked like from the video I was watching and looked everywhere for a replacement. Turns out the other half of the camshaft plug was still stuck in the camshaft. Problem is.. camshaft oil pressure broke off brittle camshaft plug and began letting my high pressure fuel pump receive oil. My headers are loaded with crud. My spark plugs are loaded with crud. I heard a rough metal clanking about two hours after changing my spark plugs and then the car was shot. Didn’t move .. wouldn’t only drive when I floored it. The sound was right by high pressure fuel pump and the computer told me it was high pressure fuel pump. Now im not sure if it was the pump or the camshaft dung. I’m betting camshaft dung so I’m putting the whole engine back together with the old pump and new dung. I’ll give an update when complete.. if I can ever get other half of dung out of the camshaft.

I have the same problem with multiple misfires. Have changed plugs, packs, valve seals, AOS and purge valve, and still have the same issue. Extremely frustrating since no other codes come up. Going to try cleaning the injectors but after that I dont know what eslse to do.

You might have a bad ECU that needs to be replaced.

Might b carbon build up onto intake valves which restrict air flow causing misfire. GDI engine has this common proble. VW direct fuel injection engine r known for this problem. Check carbon build up on intake valves by opening intake manifold. Clean w chemical and scrapping it. Valves need to b in close position. There r several RU-vid dos for GAsoline Direct Injection carbon cleanup.

Scored cylinders? Mine had oil on the sparkplugs and that was the cause... Need a new engine.
@SerhansGarage

That is a possibility although I do perform regular oil changes.

Serhan's Garage I did oil changes every 4000km as well. This is not an issue of oil. It’s about the non-existent tolerances between the cylinder and the engine block. Buy a borescope and check the inside of the cylinders if you can...

@@SerhansGarage thanks, there’s a class action in some countries against the v8 including the latest ones for coolant adhesive failure - www.classaction.org/news/porsche-hit-with-class-action-over-alleged-coolant-pipe-adhesive-defect-in-cayenne-panamera-models. Is yours affected by this ?
