My newest painting on canvas titled "A Wanderer's Dream" features an autumn landscape with two bull elk. If I could package my dreams up and put them into a painting, I think this would be it.

Your abilities are so incredible. You showed me that if I don’t like part of a painting I’m working on, not to stress over it because I can change it. The video was amazing! Thanks much for the inspiration.

Just make sure you are using acrylic paints if you want to make changes like Chuck is doing in this video. You cannot do those kinds of major changes with oil paints.

Thank you, Chuck for sharing the process of this painting. It makes me happy to see that a professional like you sometimes has to go over and over and over what you first paint because it isn't telling the story or evoking the emotion you want. I struggle with that with my paintings, but watching you and learning your techniques helps me press on and not try to take short cuts. Thank you for sharing you talent and the process! God bless!

It was so great to see the painting evolving like that :) I think many people are scared of painting (me included) because they don't realise just how much you can change it afterwards.

Chuck, I have been watching you paint for about three months now and I have to say this painting was by far one of the best I have seen you do . I have spent my life in the mountains of Oregon and I have a great passion for Elk both for hunting and seeing them in the beautiful places they call home . I felt like you put a lot of yourself and how you feel about nature in this. I wish I could have heard your thoughts while painting this “moment” that’s how I like to refer to it as rather than a painting, it has more meaning to me. Thanks for your great talent and sharing it with the world.. Good Work !

The journey of the painting wasn’t about if you don’t like a certain aspect of it you paint over. Chuck took us on a walk through his valley. Through his eyes we saw how from sunrise to sunset light will move. The perspective view of mountain range will change. The stream travels were it wishes to go, the fog moves in, moves out and the landscape, trees and brush brings a feel of a vast wilderness that can be harsh. Yet, with the elk coming to drink we now know day is done, all is right, all is calm.

Chuck ; Thank you for sending me the link to your explanation of the painting . I really enjoyed hearing you explain how the journey went to get the painting where you wanted it to end up in your mind .. I knew this painting had a lot more to do about elk then two bulls crossing a stream.. I see it more clearly now. Thanks again for sharing the “Moment”. Sorry for renaming it.. Take care and always have safe journeys.

Thank you for posting this! I love your full tutorials but I can learn just as much from a timelapse 😊💕 Watching this timelapse really helps me feel more confident when I have pieces where I lay down a base painting and then decide to redo it several times. Seeing you do that as well really centers me -- if an amazing artist like Chuck Black does that too then it means I'm not just a crappy painter. It means art is a process and regardless of how experienced an artist may be, it's okay to (partially or completely) start over if your vision doesn't match what's on the canvas. I think of it as having a mindset like Dory from Finding Nemo -- "Just keep painting!" 😁👌🖌🎨
