Oil samples start showing fuel in the oil

Everything seems ok but suddenly oil samples start showing fuel. Even worse if this is a rental unit and the customer notices no change in operation you need to figure out what is going on so you can make the correct decision . Repair it while the customer has it . Swing out another unit and pull this one into the shop. Lets take a look at what was going on and why.

Will tune in next week. Frequent regens, DPF inlet max temp always higher than max outlet temp, and high Delta P readings. I have my suspicions, a complete log of a Regen would be next item to review.

Is it possible to do a video on or do you already have a video on how to recover the ecm features and parameters? I’m sitting in truck with a ISB6.7 right now that had its ecm stolen a few months back and I can tell the parameters aren’t set correctly. Thank you sir

If any shop made an ecm image of your ecm, which is protocol if you even connect to an ecm, they can email a templet to your shop and they can put the parameters back in. Otherwise you have to contact the OEM and get the build sheet on your engine/chassis. Or if there is a sister truck ( cookie cutter trucks) you could put a templet from that ecm in yours after you make an ecm image. Last find someone who knows what the settings probably should be and have them set them.

@@ENGINESHOPJOE I was afraid you were going to say contact OEM. I keep telling management that part of our In Service procedure should be pulling parameter files and saving them to our digital unit jackets.

Hi Joe, Is there any tool you can recommend apart from expensive Cummins insite that can read and clear codes Just for 05 cm870. If I’m not wrong insite is around 1400 yearly?

Well take a look at my video on guidanz the phone app and see if that is what you are looking for. The app is free and the paid version does not do that much more at this time, in my opinion. The cummins mini was about $320.00 You can read all the faults and clear the inactive ones. You can also read 1939 data bus spn fmi codes for other modules. That is the least expensive tool I know of that does a good job with cummins. But then the mothership made it. Insite is about 800.00ish a year. But you need an adapter ( we use Nexiq link 3's now) and that is about 800. from chalks in Texas.

Yh if the mini could clear all codes that are even active I would get it but looks like I have to just go the expensive way

I watched a cummins dealer webinar today. They were talking about how insite will be opened out of the guidanz app in the future. They said to have full functionally you need the cummins inline 7 not the mini. First time I heard that. I was also suprised to find they are planning on stop selling insite as a stand alone program. In the not too distant future you will have to use insite by opening it out of guidanz. Things are a changing...again.
