On the night of June 12, 1994, OJ Simpson, in his white Bronco with his lights off, was frantically speeding away from the scene of the crime. At that exact moment, single mom Jill Shively was trying to get to a restaurant before it closed. Their paths crossed on San Vicente Blvd in Brentwood blocks from Nicole Brown Simpson's condo. Simpson almost wipes out Jill's Volkswagen Bug and barks at her to move. Thinking an intoxicated former NFL star had almost sideswiped her, Jill calls the LAPD and sets off a series of events too incredible to be made up.
What happened in those moments, days, and weeks after this improbable encounter is discussed in dramatic detail, leaving you on the edge of your seat. Why was Jill Shively never called to testify in the Trial of the Century? What happened to her life in the past 30 years?
Tom Zenner and Kato Kaelin guide you through a scintillating, chilling, and phenomenal one-hour conversation with Jill sitting in the studio with them that True Crime fans will be hanging on every single word. It's a hot new One Degree of Scandalous episode with Tom Zenner and Kato Kaelin.

Jill didnt blow the case. Marcia did. The trial was OVER for good and in OJ's favor, when they had him try on the gloves. And that isnt the only poor decision. Jill said it wasnt about race, but it WAS. Most of the jury were black and the Rodney King riots were not long before the trial. When one of the jurors gave OJ the black power sign as the verdict was read, and Johnny Cochran TOTALLY played into that. Those jurors saw OJ as persecuted black victim, meanwhile, he lived within the confines of a very white world, married to a young beautiful white woman. Most of his friends were white, a few black, like Marcus Allen and Al Cowlings. We watched every minute of that trial.. The DNA ALONE should have been enough to convict. I remember being VERY upset for months after that injustice of a verdict. Just my 2 cennts

Like the man who sold Oj a knife that fits the description of the one that went missing from his car (One even Oj himself andmitted he kept in his car to protect himself from crazy people) and was likely the murder weapon. Also there was a few others who sold their stories to hard copy and such and got kicked out of the trial as well.

this jury wanted "pay back" for the Rodney King verdict--Simpson's trial provided that chance. The stupid prosecution should have ensured that this trial was held outside of LA. That decision cost the prosecution this case (beyond the fact they were incompetent)

I was staying at the Luxe Hotel in LA in 1999. I was in town for business with the hotel, and brought a colleague. We were at the front desk when I heard a very distinctive voice coming through the lobby. I told my friend to slowly look to her right, as the voice I recognized was OJ. It’s so interesting the discussion at 5:22 about his voice. I had a similar experience. I had followed the trial closely, and read several books, and had a lot of interest. The headlines in the news was that OJ was kicked out of a rental and temporarily living in a, “tourist hotel, off of a very busy LA freeway.” So, I knew it was him immediately. My friend wanted me to take a photo with him, and I refused. We were bickering a bit about it, and the person behind the desk alluded that OJ would LOVE to have his photo taken, due to his enormous ego. My friend and I still talk about that incident and the fact that we have no photo to prove it. But, that voice I can still hear, all these years later, bellowing in the hotel lobby.

Hey guys so for context: she wasnt taken off the case because she sold her story. According to multiple reports, she was removed because she lost a case SCAMMING a man and the court records were found once the man called the DA office. She took $6,000 from a man for a screenplay she didnt write lol. The screenplay was a major movie studio film and she happened to get a copy and then scammed a man over several months while saying she was the screenwriter lmao. She then told the man she needed $6,000 and he paid it and she disappeared. He then found out the script had BEEN sold to a studio prior and was in production with actors and directors and the real screenwriter. A real movie! He sued her and won. There is also NO record of her calling 911 that night. However she did call once his bronco with the license plate was all over the news. In fact, allegedly she was seen at OJ’s estate with a crowd of people that next day when she got off work at 2pm & the car was towed in front of them. The murders happened June 12th but she claimed in other interviews that she called that night, 7am the next morning, etc etc. If OJ’s license plate was given the NIGHT of the murder as a potential drunk driver- why was this NEVER brought up! There would be a record of it and it wouldve helped! The only time that authorities agreed she called was June 15th. She THEN calls. The DA interview her several times and then she sells her story to Hard Copy when anyone with common sense knows they wouldnt sell a story if they were a potential witness. She also tries to hide the transaction before the show actually aired. So imagine the DA watching her on tv after interviewing her as a potential witness. Her episode aired after she had testified to the grand jury but yet she KNEW she had already filmed the interview and received the money!! Once she was shown on Hard Copy, Marcia and the DA call her to office to admonish her and then the guy who won the case against her calls the DA and leaves multiple voice messages telling them that she is a known con artist. According to reports, she succeeded in getting $5,000 for the story. According to reports, She also received $2600 for the print edition of her story in Star magazine. She negotiated and received these funds AFTER interviewing with the DA and just BEFORE taking the stand to testify in front of the grand jury. Somehow it mustve slipped her mind to tell Marcia & the DA about her filming a fuckin interview and getting paid for it when she met them to go over details before she took the stand. Lol. Yet here she says she didnt get any money but $2500 that she used to retain a lawyer against Marcia. She actually SAYS this here in this interview and its a straightup lie. According to multiple reports, She received $7600 in 1994. Which is equivalent to like double in today’s standards. A good con, right? Marcia said many times that she was taken off because of the court case that the woman had lost and of course the dream team of lawyers would’ve completely shredded her on the stand during cross examination. Her receiving the money only PROVED what the man was saying about her. The woman scammed a man and said she was a screenwriter and LOST! She is lying by saying they never found anything on her on a background check. Thats a lie. The DA also expressly told anyone as potential witnesses about even TALKING to the media much less SELLING a story. U can google all of this.

Not bringing Jill Shively as a witness was a huge mistake by Marcia Clark. The worst that could happen is that she’s discredited in the eyes of the jury. Which is equivalent to not bringing her as a witness at all. Except there’s a chance it increases the prosecution’s credibility. They could have also sourced the recording from the police station of her reporting OJ before the media broadcasted that a murder associated with OJ had taken place.

Jill Shively: Totally agree with the hosts: YOU DID NOT MAKE ANY MISTAKE. Seriously. You should be gratuitously compensated for all that you lost and went through. I am truly sorry for all that you suffered just for being a good citizen and telling the truth. Marcia Clark: THIS IS YOUR GREATEST FUMBLE IN ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT CRIMINAL CASES IN CALIIFORNIA/USA HISTORY. Your treatment of Jill is nothing less than a glaring commentary on your deplorable level of EQ. You should be ashamed of yourself, and in my opinion ... YOU should be held accountable for many of the damages inflicted on Ms. Shively.

Jmo: she sounds credible. If they had used her testimony it would have put him outside his house coming from Nicole’s house. The salad bar being shut down at a certain time those employees would be able to back that up. The guy in the grey car who oj yelled at did he ever come forward? Also Jill said oj was wearing a white shirt maybe a tshirt underneath his bloodsoaked clothes he took off before getting in the broncho? OJ had a deep distinctive voice easy to place as well. My guess to why Jill wasn´t used as a witness: Simply the fact that she recieved money for telling her story. I have no doubt that Jills story is 100% true, very credible and likeable person. But the defence team would have made a nuclear bomb out of her. Implying that she got paid to lie and her story was made up to make money. I´m sure Marcia Clark thought the same way and was furious she couldn´t use her as a witness. Jill was able to put OJ´s car almost at the crimescene even though OJ claimed he was at home sleeping. She would have been the one most important witness in the case. But the fact that she sold her story would´ve made her an easy target for the defence. Sad but true.

I believe her story, but did she really think who she saw that night might have been "Al Cowlings"? Who the hell knew who Al Cowlings was? He was never a star player. Most people learned of him because of the chase. Is this a psychological thing where she became aware of Cowlings because of the Bronco chase afterwards and is merely associating Cowlings with the event that night in hindsight? I think there's a psychological term for it, I just forgot what it's called. If she meant Marcus Allen then that's a bit more understandable as he was a bigger name than Cowlings.

So she succeeded in getting $5,000 for the story. She also received $2600 for the print edition of her story in Star magazine. Yet here she says she didnt get any money but $2500 that she used to retain a lawyer. She actually SAYS this here in this interview and its a straightup lie. She received $7600 in 1994.

I remember the case well. There was another woman who saw the Bronco fleeing the scene, a Spanish-speaking lady. It’s sad to know that OJ got off simply as “pay back” for the Rodney King riots according to one of the jurors. I lived in LA during those riots. The Rodney King case didn’t start the riots but was part of a build-up to it. It really started because of an incident in Korea Town where a lady shot and killed a young black girl who the lady thought was trying to steal from the store… The lady, just like the cops in the Rodney King case, got off… That’s when all hell broke loose! Anyway, this case will always haunt me. I have a friend who worked for the LAPD at the time and happened to go to the morgue the night the 2 bodies were brought in… What she saw was horrific and traumatizing to her before she even knew who they were. I’ll just leave it at that. We all know full well OJ did it. It sickens me that Nicole was right when she said that he’d kill her and get away with it. Thank you for sharing this!

I've never seen Jill speak about what she saw that night and this is incredibly damaging testimony to OJ. How ridiculous that Marcia Clark didn't put this testimony on for the simple reason that she took it to hard copy after she told the police! She should have been a little more respectful to her witnesses, both Jill and some of the police. She filtered out evidence before the jury could even see it instead of just putting everything on that was persuasive and letting the jury decide. I'm an attorney so i have plenty of thoughts as to how this should have been handled.lol

@@pommiebears My thoughts exactly. In this interview at first she said she recognized the driver of the Bronco as a famous football player and she thought at first it might have been Al Cowlings. Al Cowlings played in the NFL but he definitely wasn't famous. He bounced around several teams throughout his career and there's no reason an average citizen would have recognized him on the street. Second, she says she eventually recognized the driver as football and movie star O.J. Thanks for the video. That she made the report before anyone knew of the murders makes her whole story credible. If she hadn't said anything until after Simpson was a suspect, that would make her story a little less credible because she could have made up everything later in order to get money. That she established the paper trail ahead of anyone knowing makes her story completely credible. Marcia Clark just didn't have the right stuff to prosecute this case. Chris Darden wasn't any better. I wish Simpson's Bronco had hit a wall, a pole, or some other object that would have disabled the Bronco. That would have established everything before he could dispose of evidence.
