Sit down with Jasper County Conservation Board member Carol Kramer as she talks about her Ojibwe heritage and culture. This is part one of a four part series.
Thank you for being here! I learned 5 years ago that my father is Ojibwe and I too have a French great grandfather. I am now trying to learn about this culture and my heritage.
I wish people would talk more about being light skinned as an Ojibwe. It’s more common than most would think and my heritage often gets disregarded as such.
My great grandfather was French, my grandma was european, my mother is european and here I am but I'm still trying to learn 😊 papa tried to teach me as much as he could remember from his mother but she had been kidnapped and sent to holy cross catholic school as a little girl.
I am a member of white earth but I was taken to Washington when I was very little but I do not know any of neither of my families. My father’s name was Stephen Andrew Moose but I know that he passed away many years ago now. If I have a native name I don’t know it. I don’t know anything about where I originally came from or my families though. So it was nice to see someone who is from the same place as me. 😊
