Same. I’m just now realizing the whole movie is about Cameron and his escape from that bed, that home, and that family. One of the greatest movies and greatest characters ever!
@@shutup5466 there’s a cool theory that ferris is actually just a figment of Cameron’s imagination, Cameron’s depression and anxiety causes him to use the character of ferris as a scapegoat to do all the things he truly wants to do
He was in the past; with exception of a letter to Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) at the very beginning of the third "Back to the Future" movie, Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) wasn't seen or heard from after "Back to The Future: Part II". In fact, if you watch the beginning of the third film, when Marty reads Doc Brown's letter, it clearly states that Doc Brown had gone back to 1985.
You know they’re close friends when they know each other too well. Ferris: “I betcha 20 bucks that he’s debating on whether he’ll go or not in his car.” *Meanwhile, with Cameron...* *Sniff...* Cameron: “He’ll keep calling me, he’ll keep calling me until I come, he’ll make me feel guilty...”
Cameron suffering with depression really needs a friend like Ferris. To help him enjoy life and not take everything so seriously. Life will beat you to the ground or bed if you let it.
Ferris never cared about Cameron. He only used him as a pawn in his psycho manupilative game. He even put him in the front of a pool when Cameron was catatonic instead taking him to doctor. I certainly don't have to mention the time that Ferris stole Cameron's father's car and hid Cameron in the trunk.
I love the background music changing from the happy Hawaii music to just gloomy as shit stay in bed all day music 0:30 - 1:20 . One of the best comedies ever made.

His family neglected him, so he took that as license to really pamper himself. When he was legitimately sick, he actually felt good, because it was difficult and tiring to have to invent diseases, but when he actually had something, he was relaxed."
Cameron is definitely the most interesting character in the movie to me, and seeing him grow and learn to both enjoy life and stand up for himself is really satisfying
I prefer the idea that this has happened before and Ferris and Cameron know each other so well, that Ferris knew almost exactly when Cameron was gonna say that since he’s pulled that off before. As for Cameron, he knows Ferris well enough that he knows how it’ll end. It’s like if Dante and Randall from Kevin Smith’s Clerks were in high school.
@@TimeTravelinc I believe that's the intended impression, and I also like it more than the theory. It's just a friendlier, more fun approach. There's nothing particularly "dark" about the theory, but I still don't love it.
Sounds like you’re just high in introversion. You enjoy people and conversation but your energy for lack of a better term is drained the more people are around you. If you’re the type to be exhausted after even a short family gathering then you definitely are an introvert. Or I’m completely wrong
The way Cameron tries to convince himself to go to Ferris’s house is how I act when I’m trying to go to a new restaurant, watch a new movie or just do something out of my comfort zone in general.

You gotta love how Ferris flat out lies to his father with a smile on his face, hangs up, and goes straight into talking about how Cameron has disappointed him.

I like the theories people came up with about Cameron’s character. There’s the one where Ferris is in his imagination or that Ferris basically prevents Cameron’s suicide by showing him the brighter side of things
"You're not dying, you just can't think of anything good to do." Fits so well for depression, like trying to shrug off weight that isn't really there at all.
This shows why screenwriting should include motivation. Things should not just happen easily because the screenwriter wants them to. Events should have real-life complications like in this scene. In real life, when you want things to happen, it takes effort to make them happen. It would have been so easy to just have Cameron show up at Ferris's house with a throwaway line of why did you ask me to come over here? This scene is so much more realistic because in real life people have to argue before they can agree on things. And people need to come up with their own reasons to do things before they do them. A good screenplay needs to let us in on these motivations so we can relate to the characters.
I watched this in 86’ in the theater when it first came out. 😃 That car scene is so hilarious when he feels conflicted about going out, I remember laughing so hard in the theater that I cried.😂 That’s how I feel most days about life in general, since I was young. 😄

I literally had a friend tell me something like that when he wanted to go do something and I told him I couldn't because I had a migraine. "You don't have a migraine, you just don't have anything better to do!". We all need a friend like that! 😄
This dialogue is simply amazing. The change in music throughout the conversation is perfect. Depressed music on camerons line, and tropical music on Ferris's.
I've seen this movie a million times, but I only just noticed that Cameron knows Ferris is going to call, his finger ready to hit speaker before the phone even rings. Awww.
He does somewhat, only David Schwimmer put more enthusiasm into Melman; I don't know if Alan Ruck would have put any enthusiasm into his character. BTW, can we go over to the fun side now?
I’m just now realizing the whole movie is about Cameron and his escape from that bed, that home, and that family. Ferris Bueller and his giddy hedonistic desires are just a means to an end of telling Cameron’s heroic journey through hell and back. Had Ferris not offered to “take the heat” for the car, his character would have been ENTIRELY a side note to Cameron’s hero’s tale. But that one line was so necessary because it casted Ferris as a true ally, a true friend, and not just a pleasure seeking mooch that needed a ride. One of the greatest movies ever!
@@dusty_b_356 The whole story arc is to show that Cameron absolutely can handle anything, including totaling his father’s Ferrari. Of course it was Ferris that helped him realize this about himself
I haven't watched this in years. I forgot how much my brother and I still quote from this clip - even yelling while revving the car up when we don't want to drive somewhere.
The last minute of this clip has got to be on The Top 10 Dunniest Scenes in Cinematic History. I can't watch it without crying from laughing so hard. To me, this scene alone is worth the price of admission.
