In this video , “Hey come with me to work”, I take you guys on a recent December day in my life. This is a video for all those who are interested in Anesthesiology and becoming an Anesthesiologist. I’ll show you some aspects of what anesthesiologists really do at work (well as much as I can reveal 😉). It’s not only all routine procedures, nor is it chock full of traumas and crash carts all the time like on TV. This is a typical chill 7AM-5PM work day for me doing what I love to do! Come along!
My name is Dr. Karen Francois and I am a 5th year Attending physician based out of NY. These stories will chronicle my life with Anesthesia, as an Anesthesiologist and home life with my husband and 3 children. Through these glimpses into my life I hope to inspire and motivate young women or men into seriously considering Anesthesia as a career choice.
I am a Doctor and I as born and raised in the projects of the Bronx NY and I made it to become of highly respected physician , if I can do it then any one else in my situation can do the same.

Thanks for watching!! That’s why I do these types of videos bc I know it’s difficult to get those opportunities right now. Perhaps in the future! All the best to you,

Love this one! I’m a non-trad, older (much, LOL) pre-med/pre-PA gal. I used to work at WCMC in health information mgmt - every time the helicopter would land, I would run to the window - that was how I knew I wanted to be with patients instead of just reading about them 😁

Thank you for sharing this video. Is there any possibility of you doing a video on the different medications you use?

Your videos are so helpful! I do have a quick question about how you did it financially. I understod from previous videos that you were able to get your undergrad pretty easily but then you mentioned pulling out loans for the rest. How did you decide how much you needed or how did you calculate how much you would need since you didnt have time for a job. Also if you can tell me how much money you pulled in loans just for a reference, if you are uncomfortable mentioneing this you dont have to by all means. Thanks!

The loans I took out for medical school were based on my institution’s budget schedule which estimated the cost of tuition, food, and housing etc. There were maximums each year as well. Each school’s financial aid office will have something similar/can suggest a budget. I ended up borrowing about $260K (or about $65K per year) for medical school which I’m STILL paying back and hope to finish paying off before my 10th yr out of residency.

Hi! and thank you for sharing this video. As I said in another video of yours, I'm really thinking about anesthesia, but I hear a lot about midlevel encroachment, what is your opinion about the job market for physician anesthesiologists in the future? thank you!

Thanks for watching! I think it’s all about supply and demand. Demand for anesthesiologists and our skill set is increasing in the US, and everyone in the field is needed to continue to provide everyone access to care. There are many job and anesthesia care model scenarios, but there’s definitely room and high demand for more physicians. This pandemic I believe has certainly revealed our worth.

Thanks. Maybe you already shared this, but I was curious about the feedback loop for anesthesiologists. Specifically, how do you know if the patient tolerated the anasthesia well or had unpleasant (maybe not serious, but perhaps avoidable) side effects?
@3anesthesiame40
@3anesthesiame40 3 года назад
We do what we call a post-op evaluation. This assessment usually occurs after the patient is fully recovered from the anesthesia they’ve received (often will be done the following day if they’re still in the hospital). We ask about all the most common side effects and any concerns or issues the patient might have, and address them. Great question..might make for a great video topic!..thanks for watching!

Can you do a collab with a DO? I feel you have a good platform to end the stigma against DOs and more people could benefit from learning of DO physicians and their daily lives.

It depends on whether you’re attending classes (usually 8 am class starts) or if you’re on a clinical rotation (much earlier like 5:30 am arrival at the hospital for surgery!)
