Well I was stationed at Kadena twice. 1st 1976 -1978 then again 1982 - 1986. No American Village, no Ferris Wheel but I loved Okinawa so much I came back that second time. So much has changed since.🥰
I wish I had a chance ti ride it on my last few visits. I was raised for my first six years on Kadena from ‘67-‘73 and my grandparents were not too far, right there in Sunabe. I understand QTNBO1’s sadness, but I miss the quaintness of old Okinawa.
I remember the last time I was on the Ferris Wheel. It was my last day hanging out with my family in Okinawa before I shipped to boot camp in the states. It was very emotional for me since I was raised in Okinawa for 16 years.
Stationed there 2005-2008. That Ferris wheel was one of my first memories exploring off base. My family used to ride that and I remember it was really cheap and had a great view. I thought it was beautiful at night time. It just felt fun to be close to American Village. I hope they replace it with another Ferris wheel
Sad to see, I was there from 2000 to 2002. Never rode the ferris wheel but they had a good soba restaurant and A&W in that building area at the time. I used to hang out at that orange cat izakaya in that area.
I didn’t get a chance to ride here since I’ve been back here. I did once or twice on a date before back in 2007-200& when I was here as a little E3. Was hoping to ride it again but oh well I have my memories. But I do agree I think it’s a safety issue when there’s a very strong typhoon especially considering how old it is.
I never had any experience with American Village. I left Ft.Buckner in 1996 October. The one thing I remember was the building with an airplane on top of the hill just north of camp foster on the east side hwy 330. You can see MCAS Futema from the hill. Anyhow thanks for your videos.
Dang, I rode that ferris wheel once, back in 2016 or 2017. I used to go to Mihama American Village every once in a while and I loved that main plaza by the ferris wheel. I can’t believe they’re actually destroying that place.
Yes, I remember those rainy days in Okinawa back in Aug74 to Sep 75. Sorry to say the ferris wheel was not there, when I was stationed at Camp Foster. I'm sure it was real cool. Semper Fi
