We're from Alabama and we love this place. It is very authentic. There is another place in Huntsville that is called Hildegards German Cuisine & it is very good as well.

Next time you are in Columbus, Ohio, you have to go to Schmidt's Sausage Haus in German Village. Probably one of the best German restaurants in the Midwest. Open since 1886. I guarantee is better than this restaurant. Plus, they have world famous cream puffs for dessert. Also, try the bahama mama sausage. Maybe take the kids to the world famous Columbus Zoo or COSI (science museum). Go Buckeyes!

Thanks for your honest opinions of the German restaurant; German food can be hit or miss in our dining experiences. Gentry is spot-on with his comment about the cleanliness of bathrooms, and gotta love Henry’s sweet tea alert! It’s apparent that you need to step up your home applesauce game!?
That is a very true statement. We will definitely try other German restaurants, but will not be returning to this location. Yes - we often wonder about the cleanliness of the kitchen if the restrooms are unkept. lol - you aren't kidding! - It sounds like we need to re-work our applesauce recipe lol. LOL!! Henry knows his applesauce like Gentry knows mac and cheese...lol! Too cute! This looks so good. One of my closest girlfriends is from Germany. She has introduced me to several of her family's dishes and they are all good. German food seems to be much more bland that what we are used to here in the south. The flavor seems to be more from the sauces and cheese than the meat. I would love to know how to make that cucumber salad. I bet it was amazing. It sounds like something that would be wonderful when the cucumbers are fresh out of the garden. I also grow dill and fresh is definitely best. Gentry's bathroom report was notable. No matter the restaurant's food, if the bathrooms are not clean the whole experience is ruined. Good tea and clean bathrooms are a must! Hope ya'll are having a great time.
The ranch was so good! The bread and cucumber salad was our favorite part of the meal. We bet it would be incredible with the fresh dill from your garden. You said it best - southern food is so much more flavorful. Henry is definitely picky with his apple sauces 😂 but really enjoyed theirs. We hope that you’re having an amazing weekend, Cathy!
We’re German heritage and have traveled to Germany lots. We love German food, but like one commenter said, it can be bland. My husband prefers it that way and is a basic brats, pretzels and spaetzle guy. I love German potato salad (it’s served warm) and red cabbage. I’ve made homemade spaetzle and usually use Gouda and/or Swiss when I do. We just prefer those cheeses. Thanks for the video, your boys are adorable, and I encourage you to try a few more German restaurants when you can. 🇩🇪 😊

Thanks for taking us along. They do have some creative offerings. I think the bread charge is stupid-just make it part of the meal like chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant and charge accordingly. I think you would have enjoyed the Jaeger Schnitzel-try it sometime somewhere. I was also amazed the menu didn’t offer Sauerbraten-a German mainstay.
We agree - the bread charge was surprising. There's a Mexican restaurant in Gatlinburg that we used to enjoy but now they charge for chips and salsa. We couldn't believe it. I’ve got German heritage too so some of the dishes look and sound familiar. spaetzle is a german egg noodle so you definitely were right with the egg taste. my mom makes little ones and puts it in soup- kind of a chicken and dumpling soup.

My mama's family is German too and we had onion in ours. I still make it every holiday. I always order Weiner Schnitzel....probably spelled that wrong but holy cow I want Jennifer's order. Roquefort cheese isn't swiss tho, is a bleu cheese. There's a fantastic German restaurant down in Jasper, IN. Hey Henry are you turning into a sauce boy????
We will definitely be in search of another German restaurant in the future. There’s one in Nashville but the reviews are not the greatest. Thanks for clarifying that about Roquefort cheese. We only based it off of what the waiter told us but we also think that he may have been new to the position. The next time we’re up in Indiana, we will add the one in Jasper to our list. I saw an episode of man vs food a few years ago with Casey web and he went and did a food review at a German restaurant in Columbus Ohio I forget the name of it though but I think it was near Ohio state university

@@EveryDayIsSaturdayTV Clarksville TN has a German bakery and a small cafe/deli. They have burgers, sandwiches, pizza, soups and salads It's called Silkes Old World Breads Bakery. Check them out online. I also heard that the restaurant in Nashville is a place where tourists go.
