I did my first round of basecoating today to check how much ive managed to hide the seam parts, so far so good after i did a bit more sanding to clean up. Next step is to start painting it i guess once the first coat dries properly. Really looking forward to see everyone's entry, 120+ is an amazing variety!

This contest actually made me ask the big question, what happened in the year 1995 (the year the first MG kit was released) and subsequently the year 1999 (the year the first HGUC kit was released) that transformed Gundam model kits from worthless junk into a respectable OOB model kit? Did Bandai invent a new production method that immensely changed their kits quality? Did they hijack injection mold engineers from other manufacturers?

thanks for the update! I actually used 1 junk part and like a total of 3 ball joint parts from a build set but I think that's within 20% for sure. Just to be safe maybe I'll use the orignal hands from the kit instead of the build hands...? but I've been having so much fun that I bought a lot of older kits to work on after finishing my contest entry ✌✌✌

I feel like just scratch building and basic add ons (like wave parts which are pretty simple) only would be challenging but make it more clear and concise. But that could be limiting I guess. Frames could be tricky to judge with only a small amount being visible. It’s a really great contest as is and I’m loving the process

Noted. For my entry I mainly just added more joints and 3D printed new parts for added posability, mode changes, and other special features that were showcased in the anime. But I can verify that at least 90% of the parts of the base kit were used in this custom

the joints and hands alone are 20% of a kit bruh. You can have 90% of an original kit, but the constraints of kitbashing need to be less than 20% of the entire entry.

@@BlueAmerican26 referring to 2:59, I was thinking if the joints and parts are all scratch built, the 20% kitbash limit is still not exceeded right? Edit: just rewatched the vid again. Limit for scratch build parts is as high as 80%. 2:43. Imagine if some madman decide to do a 20% kitbash, 80% scratch build, and 0% of the original kit due to the loophole 😂

@@First-Name_Last-Name Yeah I mean you could scratch build a lot but that's not the point of this contest lol. The restrictions im talking about mostly are resin at 10%. Your kit still needs to identify as the original kit 4:05. The spirit of the contest is to highlight the old kit. If it doesn't then the judges wont be giving you good marks. It's not a loophole when the loophole doesn't help you compete in the contest lol.

I've seen people swapping joints from recent kits and using resin vents everywhere and I'm like no way this is 20% lol. Thanks for clarifying.

Ultimately it’s gonna be really tough to strictly determine the exact percent of new parts. So that’s why I say to err on the side of caution and don’t try to push that limit

@@ZakuAurelius I have a two questions. I have a previously owned 1/100 Agguguy kit. the previous owner cut the head, torso parts from the runner and glue the "snout." Would this kit be acceptable for the contest, if not I have another kit in mind. My second question involves scratch building/custom parts. I would like to confirm, are we allowed to build complex joint and build custom aluminum or brass parts from scratch? What I mean is can we use aluminum or brass for reenforce joints or custom barrels?
