you cant use anything else than pull grenade there, cos this game is so stupid that one stomp even when you are too far can push you off platform. same as enemies grenade launcher, area effect is so wide also no object, no barrier blocks that, 2 hive still enter building in cosmodrome and shoot thru walls, servitar can still protect them thru walls
Still works in late April 2024, man what a pain in the ass. Getting the jumps and grapples just right took practice like others have commented. Thanks for the video.
As someone who beat legendary Calus legitimately on my Titan, and used this cheese to finally finish my warlock I want to first thank you for the upload, but also just vent and ask the question of why Bungie sees absolutely no issue with this encounter.
10 months later and I'm still wondering the same thing. I was WELL over the light recommendations, and it took way too long because of getting booped off the arena and grapple not working how it was supposed to. One of the most infuriating missions I've ever done, and I've been playing since D1
Got stuck on this so decided to LFG to look for help, don't bother fire team scaling is absurd every thing one shots it takes what is challenge solo & makes absolutely next to impossible in a group.
@@AwashimaSeriLieutenant not this calus is the tormentors that handcannon mission where the boss is tormentor instead of calus also there are not infinite string skill to use not to mention i am only 1756 which tormentor will two shot me btw the taken spawn also annoying as fk
The mission wouldnt be that hard, but its extremely inconsistent with the red circles of death. You have 2 sec to get out or get wiped, but occasionally it just hits immediately. Seems bugged imo.
Thank you for this. This still worked a year later. You’re literally a life saver. I’m a casual destiny player, so this mission gave me some real difficulties, but now I can finally finish the Lightfall campaign without spending days on this boss
As of 10/05/24, this still works!!! Took me some time to get the jumps right, but what helped me with the bubble jump was this: go to the place he stands in the video, and jump when the branches split in two. Took me about half an hour i think, gl to everyone reading this! :)
🤣 i went from cursing bungie to laughing my ass off after doing that bubble cheese. For anybody struggling. The first bits super cheesable. Just hide behind the railings. If you cant get the jump timing right on the second phase to glitch out of the bubble, you can just save your rockets and super and pepper the shit out of calus & the tormentors. Its pretty easy with those too… Imagine. The time just before i beat him with the cheese, i actually beat him with my super and rockets… then i died as i webslinged away from him because of the crap janky strand controls that blatantly lag, leading me to fall off the map... *for the tenth time!*Bungie are so stupid for such crap map design for such a boss fight. But at least its done! And yes… I waited a whole year to get lightfall. Half price too. Whoop whoop!
As of June 29th, 2024 this still works! If you're having trouble with second stage grapple, wait until the "JOINING ALLIES" counter gets to 2. I did this with Sweet Buisness, and absolutely ZERO exotic armor. If you're struggling like I was (especially how my dumb self was on normal difficulty), this helps a lot!
@@XxHUNT3RN4T0RxX This cheese has been out since lightfall dropped, the difference is, before you you could get under the platform/walkway leading to calus and slow kill him even when the dome happens. They added beams on the left and right sides of the tube (look at the triangle bit where he was shooting from) so you can't stay under the stairs the whole time anymore.
This works as of late June 2024. After 33 attempts to finish this mission on legendary after going through the entire rest of the missions in 2 attempts or less, I finally found this cheese which saved my ass. This has to be one of the most poorly designed arenas I've ever had to fight in, and died almost every time to being knocked off the edge. This strat made this piss poor mission actually playable
Yeah, 9/23/24 still works. The fact they haven’t tweaked it not once just shows sadly how incompetent they are with these boss fights at this point in the life cycle. Amazing how whoever made this probably still has a job there
quick checkup, Phase 2 still works, for those who can’t get the bubble Just wait for “Joining allies in “” seconds” wait for it to hit 2 seconds then grapple up towards the bubble. that’s how i got it
I’m upset I had to resort to this… like I spent 2 hours fighting first phase, not knowing a phase two was coming… 2 seconds in he killed me… he also had 2 tormentors with him…
Update: May 16, 2024 - I did this again tonight with a Tusk of the the Boar, Graviton Lance, and Edge Transit. I did it with all three character classes now and I do the same method of jumping up at 3 seconds when it says 'joining allies' and grapple at 2 seconds. Just letting people know that it still works! This does still work, for those asking. I did it on Feb. 4, 2024. When the bubble is coming down, I jump up when it says 'Joining Allies in 3 seconds' and then grapple up at 2 seconds. If you're bad at jumping like me, I'd practice the jumping parts as well prior to the encounter. Also, don't forget to take out the psions when on top of the bubble. My dumbass forgot they could damage me from there.
Tip for anyone trying to do this: the jump from the pipe back to the rail near the end of the first half of the fight is not as trivial as you think. I highly recommend practicing the jumps back and forth before starting the encounter.
Tip for anyone doing this fight: The side platforms shaped like a curve can be used to easily kill the tormentors. When one spawns, destroy both of its shoulders and get it to follow you. Jump on the curved platform and wait for it. When hes jumping up to it, you jump back off to where he came from. If he comes back down then go back up again. Repeat this back and forth until he eventually just walks off without jumping and dies. I found this out by accident and its a lifesaver.
For those wondering, yes the phase 2 bubble cheese still works as of 18/6/23. Did it on my first try. You just have to time it right and grapple straight upwards.
THANK YOU! This mission and every other one in Lightfall was unnecessarily hard ESPECIALLY with all the bugs thrown in with it. Paid DLC they don't fix but Free DLC they seem to be quick about fixing, says A LOT about the company.
i have done this fight so many frigging times and finally just got my first attempt to 2nd stage right, and it didn't let me walk on the bubble and i died shortly after being in the arena. this fight is driving me absolutely insane.
For the second part if you’re still falling through, make sure you really wait till the last minute and jump high and then aim very high with your grapple. Otherwise you’ll land not high enough and fall through the top and have to do the second phase normally. I just did it after like 20 attempts and was about to say it’s patched. I just wasn’t aiming my grapple high enough to get up to the very top
This fight is more infuriating than any dark souls / elden boss I've ever faced. What was Bungie thinking here? I don't even think they play tested this.
still working as of 9.30.2023. Timing the phase 1 jumps killed me more than anything else, and he shifts to phase 2 earlier than you think before his health bar is all the way gone. You really need to give yourself time to get into position for the jump/grapple because you'll miss it if you're rushing. I ended up on top of one of the web fibers and couldn't shoot through it, but you can move over to an empty space and not fall. Fat boy never stood a chance.
It still works, you have to remember that you have to wait for you grapple to regen before completing the first phase. If you seek within with the strand the game gives you, you should regen it a lot faster. Once you see Joining Allies : 2 seconds - Thats when you should grapple up. There are areas on the bubble that will make you slide down, just remember to grapple back up. I wasn't able to complete phase one, and do the dumb parkour and survive long enough for grapple, so I just ran around the entire area killing ads, and chunking his health.
Dude, you are a life saver. I made like 100+ attempts at doing this, nearly finished a couple times, but then got one shotted or fell off the side. It still works as of Jun 10th 24.
I am on this mission myself and was banging my head against the wall until 3am last night. Going to try this today (June 10, 2024) and will also report back if it works for me too lol. Thank you for sharing your experience with this 🧀
@@user-fw4uh7ob2s I feel ya. I’ve been doing it solo legendary and the constant dodging death in this arena is ridiculous. Whatever works is my philosophy lol. 😆
At 1st this boss was hard for me, but then i discovered u get free grapples from using the green points, basically u get infinite grapples. Use that to clear ads with melee, then use witherhord for boss, and use linear or machinegun for tormentors. The thing is u gotta be on the move and use the grapple points.
His second phase is the only hard/bullshit part because he just rushes you the whole time. You can grapple to stun but he has so much health it's like chipping away at a rock. Poorly designed 2nd phase, imo.
Still works as of 8/18/23. 31 attempts at about an hour. 28 failures on the first jump, 2 failures on the 2nd jump. On the second jump, I modified it a little to make it easier because I kept falling through. Just like the video, from the pipe to that corner, then I instead grappled to the center of the arena using a grapple point (you MUST use a grapple point or you won’t have another grapple to jump onto the bubble) then jumped to the upper area as shown in the video. When getting onto the bubble, YOU HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL “JOINING ALLIES IN 2” to trapple straight up and then jump or you will fall through the bubble. Don’t get frustrated, once you have the jumps down it’s really easy (and I’m mediocre at best).
After dying for about 40 times in total (after taking vent brakes to avoid destroying my PC in frustration). Finally found this cheese by good-old Esoterickk and it SUPER works. Getting to the pipe for the first phase was tricky but after that it was extremely easy. I do love challenges but this encounter was way too much for me. Thanks again!
Still works as of June 20, 2023. Did it this morning. Used a Krait AR with Vorpal and Boss Spec. I killed the two Tormentors while under the stairs too. I stayed on one of the purple dome arms during the second phase. Took a while as some shots were not getting through the clear part of the dome. Worked better when he was almost under me. Thanks for the vid!
Omg! I FINALLY completed this on my Hunter TODAY! I died probably 100 times (not even joking) : 4 ever falling to my death trying the jumps there & back 😭😭. Only managed to swing up on top of the boss bubble 2 times! Psions killed me 1st time (I almost quit), then when I eventually got another chance up there, I relaxed and took my time to focus on sniping them whenever they spawned. Can’t believe I finally did it! So yes, this still works, but boy was it difficult for my Hunter. I never want to see Callus ever again…
I did another one this morning. Jump down to the scaffolding and walk all the way back. From here you pick off adds then focus on callus and tormentors. If you have a ranged super you can use it along with rockets. Tormentors stand still and are easy to pickoff. When bubble descents run down scaffolding and around edge and jump back up to the pipe and finish as you did in old cheese :)
@@josuemartinez5555 so if you run forward twards callus to start the encounter them emediatelly turn to your left and jump off the edge so you are just to the left of the pipe that you used to stand on for final phase. Around the main arena there is a ledge you can walk on this catwalk is totally safe. But there is a scaffolding thing you can jump onto and walk back on so you can actually get an angle on callus. He will walk over and peek just enough over the edge so you can shoot him but he can’t do much to you. From here enemies can shoot you so pick off adds as they appear on your right and left. Tormentors will also go to your right or left put don’t move a ton so you can easily pick them off. Beware tormentors can hurt you so don’t get to gutsy. If low health run back to center catwalk. If you have a ranger super and rockets you can jump up and use them on callus. Recomend a one and don super. Warloc strand is what I used. Then for final phase run back to center catwalk and the pipe you used for original cheese will be on your right. Jump on metal beam scafklding right below that and onto pipe. Crouch and walk back to original final phase cheese spot.
People who try the phase 2, I usually wait till the "join" countdown reaches 2, then I jump up and grapple to the top of the bubble. Works everytime for me.
STILL WORKS! 01/22/2024 I wish I looked this up sooner. I play as Hunter and I don't have the best gear and holy hell it took me like 3-4 hours to beat Calus normally, but then sike! He has a second phase! That broke me, my heart was already pounding cause I had used my super, used the last of my power ammo, while nearly dying myself. Then that second phase is BS, when you don't have any power ammo or fancy weapons. That first jump onto to the support beam, I was able to get right to it and my character grabbed onto it, so no need to delicately jump right onto it. Also, I don't know if I was just crouching too much to the right, but every now and then some of his shots got through and hit me. The jumping out to start the second phase, I panicked a bit and didn't quite get on the beam, but was able to double jump out enough to look up and grapple high into the air onto the catwalk. Thanks Esoterickk for this video, it saved me a bit of my sanity and grief.
Going solo and not going the cheese way in here is insanely difficult especially in final boss mode. Like I can take care of enemies coming after me but an one but an 2 hit ko that constantly goes after me along with enemies is a no go I took so and had to grapple like crazy untik my super is filled. Bs it was and cant wait to do trio on this.
This method still works as of July/August 2024. On a related note, thank you for posting this, the method shown here saved me so much time. I did try to beat Calus the normal way before, and failed multiple times, but thanks to this method, I've finally beaten him. Truth be told, Calus himself isn't so bad, i actually came very close to beating him on one run. For me it's the damn Tormentors that mess it up. Typically, one of the unwritten rules of good boss design (in my opinion) is that you DON'T spawn ANOTHER boss (or mini-boss) in the middle of a Boss fight, unless the main boss goes elsewhere while the mini-boss is present. (basically, mini-boss shows up, main boss leaves until mini-boss is dead, and then returns). Yes, i am aware there are some boss fights that have you face more than one boss at the same time, but thats okay because you KNOW you'll be fighting more than one boss from the getgo, none of this surprise boss/mini-boss bullshit.
Thanks finally after 3 days of frustration and falling off the map or missing jumps your video is most appreciated. To those of you who did this straight up no cheese on legendary I salute you
7/3/2024 this works. Thank you so so much dude. Since day one that Lightfall came out, I was never able to beat Calus solo on legendary. This is a blessing
I completed this campaign months ago, the cheese was useful and all but time consuming so I just did this legit, by using void lock with contra verse hold and striga.
If you poison with striga then put a gun with vorpal weapon in your hand the poison never goes away and you can just focus on staying alive while they slowly tick to death.
OMG yes! I struggled making the jump out from under the stairs so just used my super, then Gjally'd my way through the first phase, then grappled up the dome. Thanks!
For easy damage if you proc the Osteo striga poison and swap to a gun with vorpal weapon then striga poison will stay on the enemy indefinitely. You can have the vorpal weapon gun in your special or heavy slot, no need to swap in menus. Apply the poison and hide = free kill.
Thanks for this video, waiting till Lightfall was dirt cheap on sale before I got it. Took a few tries with the jumping under the stairs only because I rushed myself. Completed it today using this method with a Hunter and Osteo and Resurgent lmg.
For me Calus was fun with the first playthrough but trying to finish the campaign on all of the characters get really boring. Cheese just helps get it done simplier
Keep it under your hat because I don't want Bungie to find out but when I did not have sufficient skill to use this method, I did find jumping down to the beam below the arena, using wishender to see where calus was and then constantly throwing threading grenades in the general direction worked for me as the threadlings are seekers. With empowered strand my grenades were coming back very fast on their own(I was on Warlock and it did take me ages)
I noticed yesterday that i have been done all missions with Legendary version. No wonder this was so hard. I change normal and it was easy. Although getting level 8 needs legendary also from this mission. Anyway, thanks for the new tip. Tried also other cheese where you jump under balcony, it seem to work first, but other Tormenter always dissappear, and not only, you cannot shoot Callus from there.
legendary isnt hard, only that stupid platform and stomp that pushes you off, zero ammo drops as always to deal with enemies. and you need to do that solo, taking 2 imbeciles from lfg makes it harder, they take more bullets to die and next you need to revive 2 imbeciles with 1 revive or you wipe after 30s. solo you need to worry about yourself. same as that stupid battleground arena, you need to dunk stupid ball in centre, with enemies shooting from every side, boss kills you with one stomp, so you need to jump, but then when in air you take more damage, then witches melt you in 1 second with her arc balls spam. all enemies shoot arc and yet bungo says in description solar threat. same as on lost sector what shields and champions are incorrect. this comes from studio that needed 9 months to switch stasis super description for left and right mouse. or now artifact arc mods descrpition. assuming someone tested that season before rls, nobody noticed. ohh thats how we know nobody tests that. yet bungo tried to brag about red haired feminazi freaks test team on twitter and removed that post faster than light cos people destroyed those freaks
Thank you for this vid, I came back to d2 yesterday after 2 years away and started this campaign on legendary safe to say I really struggled to do this mission but this saved me
Great upload👍tried cheese yet drove me nuts getting bk out 🤬😂 So i was supprized that i did it totally legit solo on my titan and used Osteo Striga exotic submachine gun an stood on one of the curved metal platforms and the Osteo was my best friend the poison worked a treat 😉 hell yeah !! 🙋♀️
This mission sucks , everytime i get callus down to low health a tormentor slams me off the walkway and i die , done tgis like 20 times now , whoever designed this was a masochist lol
kinda hard to do, cos you need to stay in rift, and when you stay in one place from distance he calls in solar bombardment or he and tormentors will yeet you off map. bungo changed solar bombardment to wider area so it could kill you under stairs, you needed to move to back and crouch. next they made calus balls he shoots at you smaller and they can fit in gap between steps on stairs. next like duality 1st boss they made less calus and tormentors moving and shooting you from edge, during new aspect arena with tormentor yeet i landed on railings and could not get back. then weapon with ricochet allows you to attack him from there, cos they ricochet to centre. finally changed grenade to grapple and every time he yeeted me i pulled myself to arena
It still works today. Just finished it. Here's some tips. The first jump is very tricky. I failed like 10 times. The jump back is easy. Didn't fail once. The graple to the outside ring can be frustrating when you take it to diagonally. Take it almost vertical. You have more control floating. Wait until the very last second for the 2nd graple on to the bubble. and again, go almost vertical.
Thank you, Esoterickk 🤗 Share exp for those still to try.... I stayed under the walkway until phase two, less stress that way. I did find not all weapons are created equal and at first, I thought it had been patched because I couldn't land any shots with primary through the grate until I swapped to another, then it was easy money. [not sure if it doesn't like explosive payload or other perks like this when shooting through grate but just try another weapon and see if you have same problem].
Ironically enough it's easier to hit Calus through the stairs if you're aiming for tue head. Not sure why, but my best guess is that the game can tell you're aiming for the head so the bullet goes through the stairs easier, but when you're aiming for the body the aim assist doesn't really help you out at all so the bullet spread is wider and thus hits the stairs more often. Not sure if any of that made sense, but that was my experience.
@@jdamian0247 What you've said does make sense. I always aim for the head or ideally wherever the crit spot is on an enemy and I'm not a bad shot 🤣 so that is definitely not why it was happening. Appreciate the info tho.
Worked like a charm today on 9/15/23! The only p.i.t.a. part was the transition between phases when you need to get out of the hiding spot. Once I made it to the top of the whatever it is called, I picked a spot and remained stationary and burned Calus down.
Not a true cheese, more of a semi-one but if you leave one Tormenter alive (tried it with two, and it's much harder) not in its enraged state then it interrupts Calus' pathing to you in his final phase. He'll rush towards you but won't close the distance as fast and he's way less dangerous. One Tormenter in its normal state isn't a huge threat either
Also I learned the hard way, the Tormentor can approach you before the dome closes, if it grabs you, you are paralyzed. Cannot jump or grapple. Worst part is, once you get out of its grasp, it can toss you off a platform 🤦
Bruh😂😂😂😂. I just bought Lightfall a week ago. I didn’t want to play Destiny anymore because it sucks up so much time…..but…it’s Destiny🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️. I spent a good 6 hours on this fight already. It’s always the 2nd Tormentor for me. I’m glad I found this vid and thanks for confirming!!! Commence cheesing in 3…2…1…
I can understand why the arena is so small, its for you to use the grabling, but they really should have thought about making the middle platform bigger because not everyone is gonna use the grable.
When you realize the entire point of the campaign was to introduce strand mechanics to players, it makes sense that Bungie only wanted players one reasonable strategy to beat the final boss. Even the boss fight at the halfway point of campaign was meant to be beat the same way. The whole "flow with the river" thing was about understanding that you need to follow the strategy that's being spoonfed to you. The reason all the fight areas were littered with grappling points and you had fast ability regeneration was to make you use grapple and melee. It was fun but frustrating at the same time. I have always liked playing Destiny my way, which is a couple of optimized builds. This forced me to expand a little bit, but I still survived mostly due to the same OP exotic armor as before.
You are a chad for this. Works perfectly still, and very easy cheese! I did it on my 2nd attempt, the first time i accidentally blew myself up with a rocket on top of the shield wall that comes down lol.
