Yes Sir. I too was in the Merchant Navy like you (joined as a deck cadet) and I remember we used to be supplied with 2 types of waste - Cotton rags and Jute waste. Cotton rags were mostly used by Deck Dept. and Catering Dept. Jute waste mostly by Engine Dept. We used to be supplied 2 very big bundles of both every 6 months. Thanks Sir for reminding and remembering what we did on ships. It must be still there now too.! 🙏
