Those commercials USED to be limited to long "infomercials" on weird channels that nobody usually watched. Now the pharmaceutical industry is trying to shove a lot of that junk into "regular" ads, on frequently watched shows/channels...like weight-loss ads that explicitly show the excessive body fat on certain test subjects (as a "before" pic). We usually have the TV on at dinner time (and eat in the living room watching it), and I'm like, I'm trying to EAT here, and you're showing me THIS?!?

I actually think those are commercials for lawyers! Life was nice before attorney ads. And why? Because Howard Metzenbaum had an attorney for a son in law! Does anyone else here remember back when it was illegals for attorneys to advertise?

In 2022, its My Pillow and fake fruit and veggie pills that cost a fortune. The review comments for all of these say they're complete garbage but the ads run every two minutes. Suckers must be born every minute.

I remember meeting my friends at the park in the morning, played until lunchtime, and after lunch going back to the park, or to a friend’s house 3-4 blocks away. We didn’t have to worry about being attacked, etc.....we left the front door unlocked until after dinner and we lived in the city, not out in the suburbs. I feel bad for the kids these days. Lance Rattie For fuck’s sake will you Euro-pee-ons make up your damn minds?!? For decades you called us puritanical because we don’t have titties on page 6 of the New York Times and now we’re hypersexual because we make a few blue jokes? I’m starting to think your typical rape fantasies culminate in being raped by a big strapping American John Wayne type. Fucking freaks

The Jordache commercial worked in the late 70s because it was a more innocent time. Child molesters were not talked about back then, so the topic was not on most people's minds. Meanwhile, tight-fitting designer jeans were very much in vogue: Jordache, Sasson, & Gloria Vanderbilt, the label for each worn on the back pocket. Like adult clothing today, whatever was in style was also marketed to children. Hence the kids dressing like their teacher. Guess you had to be there to get it.

Remember 15 y/o Brooke Shields sprawling on the floor in a partially unbuttoned shirt and skin tight (Calvin Klein) jeans? Her line: "Nothing gets between me & my Calvins..." That would not make it onto tv today!

That Jordache commercial with the kids really got me nostalgic. I haven't seen that commercial since it last was on air lmao
@salem587

that commercial would never be acceptable by today's standards. They had the camera right on little girls butts. people would be making complaints about sexualizing children.

I almost wonder if Morris the Cat wasn't at least partially the inspiration for Garfield. (Also, he's voiced by He-Man)

I don't get the connection to Garfield. All I ever thought of Garfield was that he was the ugliest cat I ever saw (never liked the comic strip, you might say).

I remember the frisbee disc was marketed as being an all new high tech marvel but you could easily trace the inner ring of your regular frisbee with an exacto knife and make your own frisbee disc that worked exactly as well as the store bought one if your parents were as broke as mine.

Clark W Ha Ha. Yeah the teachers in my school had no sense of humor either, to the point of being sadistic, IE smacking me with a ruler and the back of my head with an open palm, all because I was bored of sitting in class and couldn't sit still.
