He's got the mic sensitivity and settings amped up for extra exaggerated effect. These PCs were never silent but they weren't that noisy either. You would only hear them over conversation or office work if you were listening carefully. The FDDs make chattering grindy noises (at startup), the HDDs make tiny clicky noises (constantly), the CDROMs make gentle whirring noises (when in use), and one or two wimpy little fans pushing air through the 150W PSU aren't noticeable unless they've got bad bearings. No PC sounds like a bomb when you turn on power unless a leaky old capacitor blows up (which kills the machine).

Windows 11 is good in UI, looks better, aesthetically pleasing, etc etc. But these have a whole different feel. I mean using a computer with a CRT flickering display that makes a lot of weird sounds, with a great OS.
@lennonmclean
@lennonmclean 2 года назад
It wouldn’t really flicker, it just looks like that because the camera frame rate doesn’t sync up with the refresh rate of the monitor
@yeppiidev
@yeppiidev 2 года назад
it's the shutter rate of the camera. the flickers (caused due to the redrawing of the screen) are too fast for the human eye to catch it, most of the crt monitors are 120hz so you will barely notice any flicker

For those who don't know, that cover just below the floppy disk reader is for putting coal. That's right! These PC's used coal to function!!!! Listen for the crackle of gas combustion inside the ignition chamber. The button that was pressed is the same as the lighters on electric stoves. It generates a spark and the gas ignites and burns the charcoal.(0:08)

@staz3014
@staz3014 2 года назад
Virtual machines are indeed cool as hell. Being able to run any retro game or you want on a laptop you can carry everywhere with you is amazing. But i still like the satisfaction of finishing a retro PC build or just using hardware from decades ago, specifically made for the software it's running. Sure it's impractical and even my phone has more power than an old pentium III machine... But using a PC from the 80's or even from the early 2000's, who went through so much years of daily use is like driving a classic car - it's a unique feeling. Each piece of old hardware has it's quirks and distinct features that make them interesting. I may sound like a huge nerd (maybe because i am one :D), but i prefer using period accurate hardware for my software and experimentations. At least as long as i don't pay the electricity bill...
@staz3014
@staz3014 2 года назад
@@DemDevDJY Old displays like this don't usually flash like that. It's likely caused by the refresh rate of the monitor not matching the refresh rate of the camera. CRTs are usually much better looking in person, they even make low resolutions a bit sharper than usual LCD panels :D

I thought turbo buttons stopped appearing on new PCs after 1995 or so- by this stage, there wasn't much point in getting computers to run at 4.77 MHz when most new programs were designed for 100 MHz or over- and even antiquated software by then was designed for 286s and above. The UI is obviously 98- but Win98 could still run OK on a 486, typically from 91-93, which is what this looks like.
@kbhasi
@kbhasi 11 месяцев назад
I'm somehow guessing that the case was older than the mainboard and CPU. The mainboard used was probably an AT mainboard which needed to go into an AT case, that also would explain the lack of soft power.
