I know this video is 3 years old at this point but I had to comment when I saw you hold up that spoon over the pot! I knew in an instant what you’re doing because my grandma taught me to hold up the spoon and let the mixture fall back into the pot and look for strands that slowly stream into the pot like a spiderweb. You’re the first person I’ve seen do this on the internet. It brought back so many memories of my grandmother. I was 8 when she passed away and I’m 57 now and I still miss her terribly. Thanks for the memories.

My Mother taught me how to make all kinds of candy. We ALWAYS use waxed paper but ALWAYS put a piece of newspaper or roll out paper towel then put your waxed paper on top and tape corners to hold your paper. I agree with you on making candy while raining. Our homes have much less humidity now with A/C. We live in Louisiana too!!

I made 7 batches of divinity for Christmas presents. It's always a winner gift. I love how you made yours and I will be trying your recipe and method the next time I make it. My recipe is always a hit or miss! I will also try a spoon and a knife to drop the divinity. It looks so much easier than two spoons. Also, thank you for the thread tip and for showing me what to watch for. I can't wait to try this.

My favorite Divinity Candy was sold in Macys Cellar store decades ago. It was cherry flavored. Throughout this whole time, I’ve searched stores and cookbooks and online videos. Only recently did I discover a note to use the juice from a jar of Maraschino Cherries to add to the mixture, to flavor the Divinity! You could probably try the green jar of cherries for the Christmas holidays and St. Patrick’s Day. The red cherries for Christmas and Valentines Day and even the US patriotic holidays like Memorial Day, July 4th. Plus the White ones. Don’t know about a blue version. Blueberries? Maybe a blue raspberry syrup like for the snow cone flavorings.

I go to a holiness pentacostal church. We believe in trinity, we're not oneness. I love looking like God told us to. He said he'd beautify the meek with salvation. We don't have to wear make up and jewelry to make us look good.. I know not all people understand till they truely get saved and hear preaching and read the king James bible. I was raised a Catholic , but I married a man that his daddy was a holiness preacher and I learned the truth . 🙌 I love baking sweets ☺️

Please help me understand. I made divinity this year in my Bosch mixer and it turned out perfect. But here is my question: I know the candy has to go from a glossy look to a dull look. But I also thought it had to be continuously beat to get air into it. I noticed that you took it off your mixer and let it sit a minute. Help me understand.
@southalabamacooking3980
@southalabamacooking3980 3 года назад
I've never heard of having to beat it continuously. I let it rest a few times in between stirring it to give it a moment to cool, (and my hand was tired), Then I stirred it again to see if it was thick enough to start dipping out.

Question, why don’t you pour the Karo syrup first into your half cup and put it in to the sugar and then taking some warm water fill the half cup again and that’ll remove almost all the Karo syrup making it easier you can even fart back-and-forth into a Pyrex cup until you know you’ve dissolved it all. Everyone on RU-vid who makes this candy always does the water first and it makes no sense.
