Tried 1920 a few months back after watching several positive reviews. First pour was ok to good for a neck pour. Came back to it about 3 weeks later, and WOW, blew me away. Opened up into a rich flavor bomb that had all the notes you described in your review. One of my favorites that will always be on the bar now. Still have to get to the 1910. Looking forward to it
It's my favorite bourbon for available bottles but even top 5 for me of all times. It's just great stuff and I'll keep buying it even if it would go up a bit I price. Great review BILL! CHEERS! 🤙
This was one of the first bottles I tried a year or so ago when I began my "journey" of exploring the world of bourbon beyond my classic favorites, like Wild Turkey and Maker's Mark. I went through two bottles before I knew it. Since then, I moved on, as there were so many things I needed to try. Then my journey evolved into Scotch and Irish. It's now been some time since I've had 1920, and my heart is drawing me back. I plan to pick up another bottle later today, and see where it stands with my more mature palette. I'm expecting good things.
I really like 1920. I get dark chocolate on the palate which is just a semi-sweet charred oak flavor but that’s bourbon and it’s dead on tasty with this bottle. I agree that Old Forester takes pride in their products and it shows with this expression. Thank you for the review!
Could not agree more Bill. I just grabbed a back-up bottle at my local Costco for $47. I would characterize the finish as persistent, and add a touch of cocoa with the cherries, although that might just be me mixing in the mustiness with the fruit. Either way, this is nice sipper. Great job, and thank you!
Need to try it. Just re-stocked Makers Mark and bought Wild Turkey 101 & Dewars 8y caribbean smooth (which is cheap and surprisingly good blend, excellent scotch mixer) both mainly for mixers. I used to think American Whiskey was just your JD's & JB's and thats that! But theres so much more.... And they are bit "exotic" where i live, just the way scotch is bit "exotic" in US.
I love comparing tasting notes! I just had this yesterday and to me the nose matched the pallet well with a very rich banana pudding note. The banana hit right away and after it opened up a bit, I got some nice toasted marshmallow. What a pour! A real treat for sure!!! Will be looking for this bottle!!!
It is very nice. Fruit, caramel, and agree with the mint finish. Also got some licorice or anise on the finish as well. Have smelled a hint the musty blue cheese on it too. Cheers
I just got a bottle of this, Broke the seal and poured an ounce for tasting. You can surely tell it's 115 proof, Yet, It last a great taste, and while the taste lingers, It never gets bitter, Anxious to see how it taste in a week.
The OF 1920 is a very good pour, but the 1910 is also very tasty and at $11 cheaper I tend to gravitate towards the 1910. I will always have the OF1920 on the shelf because once it gets down to about a 1/3 it's going to be a Unicorn or shelf trophy!
Really new to whiskey and the thought of moderation. I don’t smell or taste anything that was stated but it’s very enjoyable and am positive I’ll purchase again.
This bottle is a very special experience and you did it justice in your review. It's got a lot of personality and everybody is going to have their own journey with OF 1920. It might be my favorite of all time.
I see that bottle of Eagle Rare in the back. I got a bottle a few weeks ago when I went to Buffalo Trace on the Saturday release and luckily got a bottle of that (wish it was Blantons tho..) and honestly I think I’m gonna save that for a special occasion cause it is really hard to come by especially in the area I live. As far as the 1920 I had some when I went to old forester and I even bought a bottle because I LOVED it so much. They have it at the liquor store near me so I’m thinking about cracking it open and your review of it really gets me to want to open it lol. I can watch your videos for days. Great recommendations for me you never steered me wrong. I’m newer at Bourbons (I’m a huge Cognac fanatic) and I love seeing your reviews. Makes me try different things and yes bourbons are wildly different just like Cognacs.
I found the nose on this to be cherry and vanilla ice cream. Was a little underwhelmed until it hit the pallet, and I get these notes plus mint and then it changes to a Heath Bar, just chocolate and burnt toffee on the end that lingers forever. At $55, its a "Stock it, weekend sipper". I was pleasantly surprised after the orginal Forester nosed like straight acetone to me.
I’ve never tried any Old Forester products. I think it’s time. I’ve been stuck on Pikesville and Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel. Time to head to the store 😀
I agree, Wild Turkey "Kentucky Spirit" is another one of my absolute favorites along with the "Pikesville"... seems we have similar "good taste" 😉 You will then probably LOVE the "1920" and I can confidently say that if I could only have one Bourbon it would have to without a doubt be the "1920"... great stuff and a must have! 👍
just bought this exact bottle tonight in vanouver canada...it was expensive $80....bought it cuz even though old forester is easy to find here....1910 & 1920 is hard to come by so i had to pull the trigger on this one
Well it finally appeared in Ontario on line and it disappeared almost instantly. I managed to get 2 . 75 each. It's my favorite whiskey so far. 1 bottle will be put away with my Stag jr. (130.9 proof , never tried it ) For a special occasion.
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary ive enjoyed a lot ur videos and reviews nd i beleive some of them are very accurate with the tastings...so yeah i would definitely watch the laga 16 review
I just had my first taste of the stuff since most people seem to like it I bought a bottle. Does everyone like cough medicine flavor because that’s what I’m getting!? Not for me. I don’t think I’ve ever said that about a whiskey until now.
I say stock. The only Foresters I stock are 1910 (finished) and 1920. They're two totally different animals. I actually prefer Woodford for a finished slightly over 1910 but something makes me keep grabbing the 1910. To me 1920 is better than Blanton's (and that's not a stretch for many nowadays - I mean not just because Forester is a barrel proof) and is reasonably priced for what it is and is readily available. It wins all the way around - and all day.
I finally decided to try this. I agree the nose is nice. I still prefer 1792 Full Proof & definitely Jack Daniels Single Barrel… Barrel Proof. This one is easy to find.
another great review. unfortunately it's no longer available in Ontario but it it 76 dollars when it was. I can't get Jack Daniels single barrel barrel proof either . I've been looking to try both of those products now for almost two years.
Dude the 100 proof is my least favorite and people I know either love it or hate it. I’d choose the 86 any day of the week. Also 1920 slaps. Always on the shelf.
I enjoyed this whisky when I went through it. There was something weird on the finish though that kind of made me pause. Overall definitely a decent dram but I don't know if I will buy again.
Sorry, but I tend to believe Bourbon Folks tend to be a bit peculiar, and words like "Prohibition" "Rebel" or "Bathtub" on the label resonates with them. I've had this whisky, and I think it's overpriced for what it is. In a blind test, I would not be able to pick it out from other similar proof bourbons; no way. Also, it approaches the price which I need to see an age statement on the bottle; so that's a strike. I haven't, and would not, buy this bottle again.
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary To be honest, this bottle sits in that price zone I'm not too comfortable in. Meaning I'm very happy to buy good quality Bourbons in a $30 range, and I'm also happy to buy Cask Strength bottles for a bit more. Currently I find myself buying Old Forrester 100, both the Bourbon & Rye at a pretty good clip. Find them both to be very versatile for sipping and for cocktails. Old Grand Dad 114 is usually might go to cocktail bourbon. If I'm looking for something slightly fancier for special occasions or a gift, then I like Maker's Mark Cask Strength, Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof, and Elijah Craig 12 Barrel Proof. Admittedly, I'm not up to date with everything out there, I try new stuff when I have the opportunity but tend to stick to more value oriented favorites ✌️
Whom ever gave the go ahead at Brown/Forman to release the new batch in the new labeling should be ashamed. The new rendition is not in the same league. B/F needs to send me a $20.00 off coupon on my next purchase.
