I love it when you can take a handful of characters, a simple location, and then tell a story that knocks your socks off. This is what storytelling is all about. Kudos to everyone involved with this movie!
Awesome movie awesome character I was loving him so much and he was on for so little.. I went in blind too, I knew not what type of movie it was... I recommend the ballad of buster scruggs to anyone that likes interesting movies. It’s a very unique movie
Tim Nelson, he has come a long way and the fact that he gets his own movie, the lead and its an action movie? Yeah, this is worth the watch i feel. Really awesome to see him.
Anyone else completely floored by this film? The visual of Old Henry moving through the brush, totally one with it, was incredible. Like a human mirage being filmed. Fell in love with this one within the first 10 minutes. It's a modern Greek tragedy.
I had zero expectations for this movie but it was a GREAT western. The performances, cinematography, score, story, all of it was a pleasant surprise. Fantastic film.
In the time of streaming services pumping out movies and shows on a weekly basis, Old Henry is a true gem. This one will stay with me. Anyone wondering to watch, wonder no further. If it came out in the 90s, it would be a classic by now. Hats off to Potsy Ponciroli, Tim Blake Nelson and everyone else that were involved in producing this masterpiece.
I'm sure you've seen it. But have you seen Yellowstone, season 1 through 3? You'll want to watch that ASAP. You have just enough time to see the first 3 seasons before November, when Season 4 comes out. Yellowstone is perhaps the greatest modern Western ever made, nothing else even comes close. There's a few scenes that are so intense that you can barely sit through them.
I first paid attention to this incredible actor in the Cohen Bros’ “O Brother, where art thou ?” I am so pleased to see that he is finally getting his own film. #RESPECT
Maybe you've heard of him. Known to some as the San Saba Songbird. He has other handles, nicknames, appellations, and cognomens. But the nickname 'The Misanthrope' isn't even halfway earned.
One of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Genuine, deep acting. Nelson always delivers, his soul is like gravity that weighs down on you every time he speaks. No woke nonsense. Just a fantastic film.
The movie is such a slow build, and so somber, up until the big reveal... LOL, the experience for me was akin to "The Usual Suspects"! I have a feeling this one will stay with me for a long, long time!
From top to bottom, this is one of the greatest open range westerns of all time, with the greatest 'reveal' at the end of all time! Tim Blake Nelson was brilliant in his role of Henry, and Steven Dorff is perfect as the outlaw leader. Beautifully filmed with a script that is purposely nuanced and measured. Finest film of 2021, along with Bob Odendirk's 'Nobody'.
This was an awesome movie. Just a plain, simple story with some mystery, grit, and action. Great acting, good script, and really cool turn at the end that I personally didn't see coming although maybe I should have, lol. No politics, no unnecessary drama, just a straightforward to-the-point western.
@@lubbucs546 Sure, but it's such a common sounding name that it sounds like he made it up to hide his true identity from the law. Very few people know who "Henry McCarty" was, if not for his infamous pseudonyms.
This movie was amazing! Made me feel like I was a schoolboy again watching one of those ol'westerns from back in the day.. Amazing performances all around.
The Book of Truth When things were at their very worst: 2 Suns, Cross in the sky, 2 comets will collide = don`t be afraid - repent, accept Lord`s Hand of Mercy. Scientists will say it was a global illusion. Beware - Jesus will never walk in flesh again. After WW3 - rise of the “ man of peace“ from the East = Antichrist - the most powerful, popular, charismatic and influential leader of all time. Many miracles will be attributed to him. He will imitate Jesus in every conceivable way. Don`t trust „pope“ Francis = the False Prophet - will seem to rise from the dead - will unite all Christian Churches and all Religions as one. One World Religion = the seat of the Antichrist. Benedict XVI is the last true pope - will be accused of a crime of which he is totally innocent. "The time for the schism in the Church is almost here and you must get prepared now"
Cloax: This isn't an "... old Western...". Old Western were white hats and black hats and good guys and bad guys.. and reality was you might not know which was which. That Civil War we entertained put a lot broken souls into "the West". A few men lost their humanity and a few their minds. Wars do things like that...
I’m not usually a big western fan as a whole. Friend suggested we watch this, I’d never heard of it. I was truly blown away on every level! The acting, the story, the ENDING! What a masterpiece from beginning to end! A truly captivating movie and experience! Well done!
Just finished watching this 5 minutes ago. I'ma tell you like this... This is one of the best westerns I've ever seen (and I'm old) with a surprise ending that will make you sit up in your seat. Don't read anymore youtube comments. Just go watch this film. You won't regret it.
This is the first movie I have watched twice in one week since Forest Gump in the 1990's. The cinematography, background music, character's emotions, believability, pace of actions and storytelling are just freaking awesome.
One of the absolute best movies I've seen in a long time. The fact that it has a different outcome of a historical figure and portrays them in a different light makes you wonder how their life truly ended 🤔. Some say they died young, but this says they died later in life. Either way, this was an excellent and entertaining movie from start to beginning. I rarely watch movies, but I've watched Old Henry twice because I missed some of the significance that makes this movie a true gem💎.
There's some pretty interesting research into a lot of historical figures in that category. Some folks think that Jesse James faked his own death. There's a pretty conclusive case to be made as well that John Wilkes Booth escaped too.
Couldn't agree more! There's a lot of ill-fated cheesy western crap out there. The acting, cast and story line in this are absolutely outstanding! In my opinion it ranks up there with "the good, the bad and the ugly" and "Forgiven"! Hard to point out a single flaw!
@@JacobTyler1776 and Hitler, and Elvis : ) the "X actually escaped and lived happily ever after" trope is among the oldest ones in the book. PS. there's at least one major religion based on that premise.
I love seeing movies like this come out. No "End of the world!", no supernatural make-believe, no huge armies. Just a story about a few people fightin over a bag of money. Excellent
I just got done watching this. It's one of the BEST westerns I've seen in a LONG TIME! It's really grounded (and gritty), and Tim Blake Nelson KNOCKED IT OUTTA THE PARK!👍
Wow, I saw the movie, I was surprised….I didn't know or remember Tim Blake Nelson as an actor, well….a great movie maybe from me because I know well the story of the character behind him and I've seen some movies on which he finally reveals himself. I also consider that he looks like… or let's say his face fits well with the original character. I was amazed I didn't suspect this revelation… the ending yes because in the end it is a western film. Beautiful I recommend it and thanks Tim for your interpretation ... I grew up with the great films and actors of Sergio ... Sergio Leone. Good job!
Tim Blake Nelson nailed this role. He’s really come into his own. This part makes me respect him as a great actor. This has to be one of the best westerns I’ve seen since Unforgiven. I rank this as one of my favorites. I wasn’t sure what to expect until I watched it. After watching it I decided to buy it.
So I'm 37.. There's not a movie that's gotten me into the theater in quite a while. This might be one. That's a nice old school setup. Lee Marvin type of goodness. Tim Nelson cast as this role takes it up a notch. Excellent choice.
He was a part of a pretty dark group of child actors in the 90s. A lot of them didn't make it. I believe he still has a substance abuse problem but he looks pretty healthy now. It's good to see.
I just come across this movie last night and let me tell you how GRRREAT!! This Movie is. Wow. Best I've seen since No Country for old men. This Movie is Gangster af
Being born in 1962, I was lovingly indoctrinated via war movies and westerns. Shane and True Grit comes to mind. High Noon, Tora Tora Tora, Midway. I love me a western. Hollywood doesn't need to saturate the genres. But don't give up on them, either. They'll be customers waiting to spend their money.
Oh man...amazing! Can't wait...the lead actor was in O Brother Where Art Thou, yes/no? He knocked over the Piggly Wiggly in Yazoo but all his sin were warshed away :)
My papaw's name was Henry born in 1908 in Kentucky. Sounds like some of the stories I heard from the old days. He told me you were either a coal miner farmer or Moonshiner. I asked him which one was he and he never truly answered it he would always joke around. 🤔😳
I'm a big western fan and coming in to this movie I had no idea who he (Henry) was, although with the last name Mccarty I should have known. But what a great surprise to me it was when they revealed who henry was. Was blown away, very, very cool movie.
Great to see Stephen Dorff again, after that great performance in True Detective. I'm a sucker for Westerns so I'll definitely see this movie, looks good. And oh, Tim Blake Nelson on a Western/action movie is reason enough to see it.
I love it. The perfect actors for the roles. Westerns were my father's favorite movies and sometimes I feel the need to warch a good western. Thank you.
Damn I miss Westerns. I really liked Hostiles with Christian Bale. Kinda rare to get a good ole time fashioned Western for the modern era. Surprised by Nelson playing the lead, it fits him rather well. He might aptly be suited for a gunslinger role, can't wait.
Hostiles was so freaking good. man was it choice, I love these period pieces, the feel of being transported to that time and that place. you sir made a good comment and now i am happily set to rewatch a good movie I forgot about. TYVM.
If you like westerns, watch this immediately. The build up to the end is intense, and it is one of the best westerns I’ve ever seen. The ending is goosebump inducing good.
Looks fantastic. I can relate to this movie in a major way. I know three very old grandpa guys but back in there early years were a terror on earth and now they are simple quiet people just trying to get into heaven and regret their past. Funny how the past comes back to haunt you later on as the closer you get to the grave And the secrets they take with them.
At first I wasn't sure... but damn if this guy has deserved his due for the longest time. Such an underrated actor. I'll watch it for that and that alone.
I watched the movie just from reading the coments. I didnt feel the first 1 hour of the movie at all,it felt like 10 min had passed. It was a great piece. Gladly i watched it and i enoyed it.
@@jjbrowned313 Henry McCarty was his birth name- when he went out west he took the alias William H. Bonney, going by Billy most places. In the trailer you can see the newspaper headlining the Lincoln County War of New Mexico, which shot Billy into infamy.
So this looks like it may be a retelling of the survival of Billy The Kid, given the character name, gun handling skills, and mysterious origins. If so, I am ALL FOR that! This looks like it could be really good!
One of the papers he pulls out of the drawer says "Lincoln County" on it, which is where The Kid was best known. That sealed the deal, with me. I'm almost certain he's Billy The Kid and I am VERY excited!
I gotta say this is one of the best westerns I've ever seen!! With a twist that you might suspect!! If you haven't seen this film yet...do yourself a favor!
As someone who grew up on westerns and even grew up in a town where westerns were filmed (Cañon City, Colorado) this Western Renaissance brings me so much joy. And not to jinx it, but I’m glad it’s not all remakes and reboots
