Certainly improved the visual look of the knife. When working an old handle in the grinder like that do you have any issues with heat going down the pins and softening the epoxy? I had one actually let go on me. So these days if I rework a blade like that, or have a lot of meat to remove on scales on a new blade I am making - when I am grinding on the handle I am also dipping the knife in water keeping it cool, same as I do when working on the blade steel.
Jack Dawg Thanks! I had no issues with the epoxy here. But yes that’s something to be aware of. Keep in mind that higher grit belts will cause more friction and heat. I did most of the shaping with a low grit, then took it easy as I cycled through the high grits.
Nice job Brad. I like the new shape more then the broomstickshape. Instead of using wax I put some Brazil/carnaubawax on the buffingwheel and polish the handle.
