20 years ago games had this thig, that today games often do not posses, because they are either part of "universe" or a "reboot"... It`s called "new ideas"
@@leandro2002198 the appearance is a large part of it but obviously not everything, though you are correct in the OST and sound effects being the main drivers of atmosphere. But don't count out the novelty of the story and quality of the storytelling, which is _really_ where LoK's atmosphere comes from in conjunction with the visual and audible elements.

Speed running wasn't really a thing when they made this game. But I guess it would've been possible for some kind of in-game timer to trigger different cut scenes.
it got loading screens, but they are invisible. some Tunnels and ways are those loading screens. the slower your Playstation was, the longer was the tunnel
I had the greatest fortune of luck to have a chance to speak to Michael Bell who played the voice of Raziel; But truly the game is an absolute masterpiece I wish they would remaster it or remake it to bring to new audiences on updated platforms it would be nice.
I would seriously love a remaster myself, no changes to the story or gameplay aside from dual stick controller support which is my main issue with the game (I had a tablesaw accident involving two left hand fingers and my thumb so the D-pad is nearly impossible to play with anymore😔). Maybe bring it to Xbox too, that would be nice...

and so a great game with a fantastic story and countless hours of gameplay is ended within 30 minutes haha. Great speedrun mate and I'm loving how it's just the Melchiah theme through.
I like that Kain speech now has the new meaning. No matter how fast you are Kain dissapointed in your progress an imagined that you'd be there sooner. And still Kain forseen all of this no matter what crazy route you've chosen to get to him.

Veictas So long as they don't screw it up. I grew up with LoK and it was the game that defined my childhood. (Yeah, a game as violent as this was my childhood...) My standards will be very high, but as long as they keep all the same voice acting, I'll probably be happy.
@@nordinreecendo512 I just want to tell you that my younger brother grew up on "Legacy of Kain", "Bloodrayne", "Gothic", "Quake", "Dark Corneres of the Earth", "The Suffering"... etc. And he turned out way better than me :) he was, i think, 5 or 6, when he watched, as i was playing in games, where one would kill someone brutally. All he had to do is to close his eyes, if it was too much for him, or hide under the desk... Just to put it into perspective- i only played in Amnesia for 20 minutes, then i met first grunt... He played it whole. 8,5 years younger than me... As for "Soul Revenant"- look it up. Aside from certain music pieces, that were reworked, and graphic, the "feeling" of the game remains. Look at some screenshots of the wastelands and tell me you don`t feel like in "Soul Reaver". Also, there is already a game, that turned out fine, and it was made by fans- "STALKER: Lost Alpha". "Gothic" has my kinsmen creating "History of Khorinis", and they also work with voice actors, who were working on original games... for free. "Passion" and "love" are key words here, i think. It is an era, that has "common people" doing remakes of our beloved classics. I lived to see "from gamers, by gamers, for gamers" come true :D

Hello,Awesome run! I just had a quick question. I recall the PS1 version had cheat codes. if you were to enable them how quickly could you beat the game? Is this still quicker?
We call that glitch timestop, because as you may know all objects in the game stand still while the glyph menu is open. Another thing is that the game stores Raziel's position up until the glyph menu is opened. So, when the glitch occurs, he can move freely while everything is frozen and his position's coordinates don't change at all. The first use of this glitch (which escalates to all wall skips up until Kain1) consists in locking Raziel's position next to the block. If a push action or a lift action is then performed while Raziel is far away, the game tries to reposition Raziel next to the block but he's far and there are walls between him and the object. So he ends up traveling at superspeed, bouncing into walls and skipping them. More or less the same thing happens with skips involving enemies. The difference is the use of the execution attack. Many wall skips are possibile thanks to the fact that the game changes the object you're next to when Raziel walks past loading zones. He doesn't always get locked to an enemy/block, but the same action can be performed, depending on the initial object he was facing the last time you opened the glyph menu. The second wall skip after entering the Oracle's Cave is an example.

It still contains the theory behind them for most of them. I found it a lot useful when I was learning the run.
My runs aren't on SDA because the LoK most recent runs have been submitted on speedrun.com. I don't think that they would meet SDA standards anyway. There's a LoK community that has a Discord server (discordapp.com/invite/8Ynyd8V). If you want to speedrun the LoK games you are welcome to join it.
You're right. I didn't even think about it because people run only the pc version. The ps1 version is more laggy and it is slightly differrent regarding the glitches' execution. There's a TAS of it though. Thanks for pointing out, I will edit the videos' name.
The community chose to end the run on the last hit on Kain since there's no user inputs after the last fight, that's why I cut the final cutscenes and the credits
You can buy the pc version on steam or gog. For your information the game came out for ps1 too. I haven't got any links to share, but you might find something by searching on your own.

It's relatively new to the big audience, so I can understand it. By looking at it you just see someone who's teleporting all the way through, but from an outsider point of view you really cannot see that behind that there is a lot of practice and in the specific case of Soul Reaver a lot of rage inducing things as each one of these warps can result in a softlock if done incorrectly. I'm pretty sure that in a couple of years the overall view above speedruns will change anyway.
