Mid-October 2021 saw various old lorries (ERFs, Fodens, Leylands etc) congregate at the Midway Truck stop prior to heading off on a classic lorry road run around the roads of North Wales. Knowing that they'd be there for an hour or so before departure, we headed over in the Volvo for a quick look at what turned up, then film them as they drove away.
The weather prior to the meet-up had been a little mixed, but that didn't seem to put off these lorry drivers and a mix of older vehicles turned up. Most were of the 1970s-1980s time period this time (other meets held previously at this truckstop feature on the channel too) but there were a couple of really old British lorries in attendance, including a wonderful 1932 Leyland lorry that hitched a ride on the back of a 1970s ERF. I must also mention the fantastic 1954 Peterbilt, and the last-to-arrive 1950s Leyland.

I love lorries and always have since I was a young kid. My brother in law used to take me out in his TK, delivering for an air freight company based at Birmingham's Eldon airport, now the cargo part of B'ham International.

There's a famous Leyland Badger in the Australian National Motor Museum. Not quite original; by the 1950s it had been spliced onto a rear end from a Thornycroft. It was the main vehicle used to carry pretty much everything on the Birdsville Track, shown in a 1954 scripted documentary called "Back of Beyond". It was retrieved from the Outback in the late 80s and restored - it is in better nick now than when it appeared on film.

Love all Fodens and ERFs . My favourite is always going to be the ERF E Series with the Cummins the E10 325 model which was very popular when I was driving Ford Cargo, Volvo F6 and FL6 16 tonners in the early 90s. The E10 325 had a lovely exhaust and seemed to hang on right down to very low revs before changing down. Of course when I was on 7.5 Tonners in the late 80s before speed limiters the E14 and the 142 Scania could hit very high speeds on the Motorway.

...and another fantastic display of lovely old lorries. That Leyland Badger was amazing and the Peterbilt always looks like it means business (even if you've never watched Duel!) Looking forward to your next videos ☺️

There are usually a few interesting vehicles at the garage showroom opposite the Midway. Always pause there when I pass.

My Dad drove a 1935 Leyland Badger (AYC 177) back in the thirties and forties, this one was a forward control, 'cabover' in the US. There's a 'bonneted' Leyland Badger at 'Oakham Treasures' just off the M5 near Portbury village. Love the Peterbilt but I wouldn't want to see it in my rear view mirror......

Ha, used to stop at the midway overnight. Brings back memories. I think the oldest one I drove was an aec Albion. Had brake failure on it, good job it had solid rods for the handbrake. All the American trucks had to be modified with brakes on the front steering axles to legally be used on UK roads. I drove for Sammy Jones of Aldridge, used to be contracted to the Norfolk line. Don't see many Seddon Atkinson nowadays, another truck that you had to learn gear changing I found it best not to use the clutches once it was rolling and let it dribble in on idle. You get used to it.

Earlier Fodens always stood out with their greater attention to styling. That great logo, that seemed to inspire the swoops and swirls in the bodywork and trim. And then, what they did with headlights too. They always stood out. The ERFs a bit less so. Also, there seems to be very few of the Commer TS about ?? Another distinctive truck - both the cab design and the awesome sound !!

Simply outstanding video - made me recall one of my favorite kid toys, a dump truck from the matchbox collection series; i put a lot of miles on it pushing it around playing make believe. :>/

I have to agree with others on the Fodens, very ornate if that is a word you can use to describe a lorry. As I have said before I am always drawn to ERF's. The Leyland badger I don't think i have seen one before unless I saw it and didn't know what it was! Do correct me if I am wrong but l think we have seem the Volvo tipper before, on the back of a Volvo flatbed in the same coulor. Nice video to almost round off the season.👍

There wasn't any AEC's in the video maybe far less were made and fewer survived? I have a special interest in them as my father in law worked at the plant in Southall. Thanks for sharing

Watched a few of the lorry videos and haven't seen a lot in the way of early 2300 and 2800 DAF's or Leyland Buffalos.
