FINALLY SOMEONE has the guts to call out Matt Taibbi's hypocrisy. Taibbi's always presented himself as an incorruptible independent journalist and NOW he's the mouthpiece for a billionaire.
Taibbi is a joke. It doesn't matter if his reporting was factual, he intentionally left out important details and put a spotlight on others to frame it in a very deliberate and skewed way. It was a hit piece while also putting up a shield for the person that paid for the hit.
Because he's been selling substack subscriptions to the MAGAs for two years by screaming that this is the biggest scandal since Watergate. He will just keep digging the hole deeper because he literally can't afford to lose them. He's found out why the Vampire Squid sucks. ReR747 Taibbi with the Rolling Stone “creds” and Briahna Joy Gray working on the the Bernie Sanders campaign shows that the content of their character is more important than sneaking their way into respectable positions

Notice also in that Breaking Points clip that Taibbi did not answer the question but tried to divert the conversation to the shiny object of how he might be able to reveal the secret activities of the intelligence agencies with the files. That is great, although not much of that has come to light either. But, Matt, how do you know or verify the information handed off to you is not curated for an ideological purpose?
What should Matt have done as a journalist? Say, "no I refuse to report on this"? You people have gone mad -- so, much for your "democracy dies in darkness" mantra.
Matt Taibbi is 52. His career is long behind him. He just couldn't resist Musk's offer. So he sold out to get a relaxed retirement. This sad story shows us why we must never get too close to the rich and powerful to fight them effectively.
THANK YOU! I really used to like Taibbi´s work. Him pointing out the problems with BLM-reporting as well as the gun law reporting impressed me. And I have been wondering for weeks now, when the shitstorm will finally be breaking for him basically just taking the money and doing outright biased court-reporting for some billionaire´s political interests. Another Greenwald-story, sadly.
Apparently Hersh thought, in Matt Taibbi's already ethically obtuse recounting of the anecdote, that his only options were to be spoon-fed or to walk away. The point surely is that Hersh, as an investigative journalist, should have investigated the material that the CIA handed him and eventually report it from his own perspective if in his judgement the story had merit. But let's face it, Taibbi's whole grift may have been to construct a facade of journalistic integrity so he could eventually cash out once a lucrative opportunity arose. Twitter files was that opportunity.
Idk: did he gain that much from the Twitter files? If the goal was to bring folks to his substack, how much did he gain and how long will it last? This is still a puzzling move to me. I keep coming back to the thought that it must be ideological in nature somehow, like it fits a narrative that he is trying to push about a liberal bias of tech companies.
throw that ass in a prayer circle In like March of 2020 my partner read an online article about how a former Democrat who enthusiastically voting for Hillary in 2016, went to a Trump rally shortly before posting the article my partner read. Dr Karlyn Borysenko the author talked about how Democrats got Trump supporters wrong, and how wonderful they actually were in person after being warned about going. My partner turned to me and asked me if we were in a bubble, and might be missing what so many are really seeing. It turns out that all over social media amplified the conversion of Borysenko to the Trump camp so loud that it bled into practically all of media, especially conservative. Twitter conservatives have also done this to media and social media when it comes to censorship as well. There just happen to be more threats of harm, bigotry, and breaking Twitter’s TOS as compared with the left. During Covid-19, it was more left and right personalities posting anti vaccine(mRNA) and pro treatment info that was probably difficult to sort through and much of social media likely was being overly consumed by the different data. Most anti-censorship diehards were unconcerned about the numbers of unvaccinated filling up our ERs and morgues and had likely seen Joe Rogan and Tim Pool survive Covid with a 20,000 cocktail. Others weren’t so lucky. These Twitter dumps are ignoring that most corporations want their products sold, with employees who are respectful to the sensitivities of the lion’s share of customers and it’s that simple. Conservative grocery store owners in my area want liberals shoppers too.
@@0110110011011101102 that’s being disingenuous, saying he’s “not being paid for this” knowing that he gets thousands to millions more in views. He briefly responded on Twitter to people saying he was doing PR for a billionaire by saying "how many of these critics have cited unnamed defense sources in their national security reporting...." I'm paraphrasing but something along those lines. But of course not all of his critics are mainstream media pundits or journalist, many are just left wingers who are disgusted by his behavior.
No doubt his response would be some stumbling nonsense about being taken out of context. Of course, he'd be sure not to be in a forum where there's the risk of someone pushing back.
@@nathanmead9585 yeah, not sure what context that would make it better, it’s a pretty clear hypocritical statement and change in His journalistic ethics. What Matt refers to is essentially becoming a stenographer instead of an investigative reporter. He is now what Sy Hersh refused to become. He no doubt draws a distinction around being handed material that implicates Twitter in allowing the Intel agencies to dictate a narrative. Yet at the same time he shows that Twitter staff were aware that they didn't have to honor all requests and in fact had significant concerns over doing so. It's not what has been implied, that they were paid to censor.
The intentional misunderstanding of this story has been going on since the first Twitter Files drop. People are still acting like Brandon was president in 2020.

@@Dawnrunner42, I've remained steady. I'm not partisan. I go where the story goes. Journalists like Matt operate that way. We don't pick which side benefits or doesn't. You're so used to crappy journalism from these corporate networks, that's what you're used to seeing with them. FOX is to blame, at least initially, of course. Then both CNN and MSNBC decided to practice that style of journalism to keep up in the ratings department, and we've had hot garbage at the corporate level ever since; at least twenty years' worth, probably more. The fact is, the intelligence agencies have always had their fingers in the journalism pie. You've heard of Operation Mockingbird, right? Well, we now have the 2.0 version of that crime being committed. On top of the covert side of that crime, we also have these networks outright hiring "former" CIA and FBI agents. They like to call them "analysts" or "experts" or even more evasive terms like "contributors" or "correspondents." Have you ever read Noam Chomsky's book, "Manufacturing Consent"? Because that's what those people are doing every single day on those networks; they're manufacturing consent for more wars and more restrictions on civil liberties. All under the guise of "terrorism" or some other unconstitutional tool they've possessed since 2003, like the AUMF to name one. All of this without either Congressional approval or a UN mandate. Our military has been and continues to exist illegally in Syria. And we supported an attempted genocide in Yemen for the better part of a decade now. So no, it's not what I want to happen; it's what's happening, and we merely report on it. Others like to promote or obfuscate, depending on which side gets caught. It's Blue Team vs. Red Team when both sides are the same when it comes to war and Wall Street. Notice how Mehdi never brought up the meat of Matt's findings, but instead focused on picayune errors, most of which have since been debunked? The "CIS[A]" part Matt wrote in his tweet isn't incorrect, because both of those agencies are attached at the hip. Also, didn't you notice how Mehdi never dug into who those two CIA cutout organizations are and what function they serve? As that is the real crime right there. That is where the government meddled with a tech agency to silence stories that were unflattering to a particular side of the aisle. As for the millions of flagged articles, Matt got that correct too, as Mehdi simultaneously played word games with Matt over them, hitting him with the debate ploy of Gish Gallop to confuse him. I believe the date is the only part of Matt's work that was incorrect, but that too may be incorrect, as Lee Fang, Aaron Maté, and Glenn Greenwald came out just after the "interview" and posted about it. This is what happens when you expose the crimes of the State Department. They use their media mouthpieces to attack you. But I will say that it was Matt's fault for not being prepared for the interview, because that's what Mehdi is known for-winning debates, and winning debates isn't the same as digging up facts. Mehdi's book, "Win Every Argument: The Art of Debating, Persuading, and Public Speaking," tells you what he's going to do. It's the word "persuading" that shows you what he's about. Mehdi Hasan is a corporate enforcer and influencer. Matt has since written an article about this entire farce, straightening out the BS, and it's on his Substack page if you care to read it. And for further support, if you type into the RU-vid search engine, "Grayzone: Mehdi Hasan's dishonest tactics, establishment shilling exposed," both Aaron Maté and Max Blumenthal explain most of what I wrote above. Ciao! 😝
Mehdi lied when he said that he never in the past brought up Hunter Biden's laptop, but made a tweet about it back on October 17, 2020, and he used _whataboutism_ in that quote too. *_"Even if every word of the New York Post 'reporting' on Hunter Biden is true, every word of it, it still wouldn't equate to one percent of the corruption stories involving Trump, Trump family members, Trump administration members, Trump administrations' family members."_* So yeah, Mehdi is a bald-faced liar and a raging hypocrite whose only talent is to talk fast and muddy the landscape to hide the real crimes of a particular story. People who defend Mehdi or MSNBC and attack Matt are like Adult Children of Alcoholics in that they side with their abusers while smearing the messenger. It's like that quote Mark Twain allegedly wrote: _"It is easier to fool people than convince them they have been fooled."_ All we can do is keep their feet to the fire and keep hitting them with the *pertinent* facts of a particular case. No matter if it smears the left or the right side of the aisle. As the truth should never be partisan.
You mean his Perestroika stuff ? It was entertaining at best. He had a few mildly entertaining pieces. The fact that he's written books, though, is pretty sad. He's never been a good writer. But I always thought of him as the type of person who'd follow Greenwald and Jimmy Dore, and become shameful. Most of the stories he wrote from Russia in the Yeltsin years were, again, entertaining, but there wasn't very much depth to most of it. He had a partner who didn't self-pronote as effectively. I wonder what happened that guy.
I should be over this now but this is disgusting, Taibbi used to be better than this and still knows better. He is also realising that unlike many, his long term audience is not stupid and although he has decided to double down he seems genuinely uncomfortable making statements that could not be more wrong. "It does not matter where the information comes from". Erm, that is the exact opposite of what you really believe Matt.
